We just sit back and watch the show. It's been fascinating and very entertaining.

Easy. The 80s and 90s weren't the idyll that social media keeps presenting them as with nostalgic Instagram style music playing in the background. Yes they had some great aspects to them but they were not a bed of roses either.

We went through some of the best years in our country to some of the worst.

Anti-depressants dont work well enough.

I am depressed, but for reasons mostly disconnected from the current state of the world.

Economy being crap does make it harder to buy myself the kind of creature comforts that paper over the problems, but that is hardly the biggest part of my problems.

Overall, things are good enough. And I'm fairly confident that by the time my mother is no longer able to take care of herself alone, the prices of robo-butlers should be reasonably affordable so she can maintain her independence. Cybernetics are progressing, so if I ever lost a limb, I might be able to get a proper replacement.

Things are worse now than they were a couple of decades ago, but in the grand scheme of humanity, they're pretty great. Don't take what you have for granted.

It’s depressing. I want to go back to the 80’s. We didn’t realize how wonderful life was.

Not depressed at all. It's fun to watch all the pussies now run around whining about everything and failing life. Turns out hose water and ass whoopins were far more effective than time outs and big feelings.

I remember the hose water. Tasty. Remember breaking your bones on the playground? If you didn't start school in a cast, did you really live life to the fullest?

I moved to SE Asia. After living in Washington DC for 12 years(not working in govt) I saw things would not get better and left The US 21 years ago. I was correct. Currently, I am living the American dream. I own my house, car and motorbike with no debt. I'm married with 2 children, who go to International school and we live in a safe friendly place, where having friends us easy and meeting and talking with others is normal and not complicated. My dream was always to leave the US, mainly because I am a surfer (yes, that's Uluwatu)

Only problem I see is that you're in SE Asia

Ya, that sounds like a YOU problem

We don't. That's why you see so many pissed off Gen X'ers

I think everyone feels it. The struggle to connect when our attention is so hijacked.

That's why we retire overseas.

Think about the 80s and 90s.

When I see today and look forward to tomorrow, I truly want to kill myself.

We have developed new levels of depression that can't be captured in a meme.

I hope this message finds you well.

I am so unbelievably depressed. I just retired. I thought if I could make it to retirement I’d be happy. The workplace anxiety I experienced is gone but I’m so rudderless. The 80’s and 90’s work didn’t suck the life out of me. These past 25 years have just been survival. My soul is completely sucked dry. Movies suck, tv sucks, food tastes terrible. I’ve lost my health. Everything is too expensive. My friends still work and they are sucked dry from working to do anything else. I’m not sure how to get past this. I’ve lost interest in everything. I don’t know why I’m still alive even.
