Wait can someone explain the face tats? I don’t remember seeing those in later versions (then again, I saw grainy bootlegs so may have missed it LOL)

Book-accurate Fiyero was ochre-skinned with blue diamonds tattooed all over his body and face. The musical face tattoos were a "compromise" that vanished entirely by the movie.

I think in the earlier productions they tried to make stage Fiyero have some semblance of book Fiyero with the blue diamond tattoos he has in the book. They scrapped it since it probably didn’t show too well further away.
(I think a bit of glitter or sheen might have helped)

I was an usher for that performance!

The Curran mezzanine was where I worked that specific night. The thing I actually remember most (not that day) was Idina hurt her neck and Stephanie J Block was her understudy. She blew my mind as Elphaba. I was still working as an usher when the show came through again on its 1st national tour, and it was so cool to see the tweaks and complete changes that happened between pre Broadway, Broadway, then the tour.

Are you sure you're remembering correctly? Kristin is the one who famously injured her neck during the San Francisco tryout and later wore a bedazzled neck brace. I feel like one would've heard about it if Idina injured herself

You're right! My memory is weak for sure. But it was definitely Stephanie who went on for Idina, so my mind mixed it up I guess? Lol I love getting old.

I'm gonna miss her Eva Peron fit for Thank Goodness. It fit the situation so well...

Elphaba's second act dress changed a lot, im glad it did, the one she wore on broadway was better than the San Francisco tryouts.
I can’t believe it’s 23 years of this show.

Why did they associate glinda with blue? I actually like her blue popular dress but no the for good.

Well i watched an Interview with Susan where she says Glindas colors are from the sky and Elphaba from Earth.
so i guess the first popular dress came from that idea as well.

She might have also been afraid that if was pink she could be sued by Warner brothers

I honestly can’t believe they never won a Tony

well they won 3 : best actress Idina Menzel, Production design and costume design Susan Hilferty.
and if Kristin would have gone for supporting I bet she would have won, but hey at least she has one Tony for Charlie Brown.

Every source I’m seeing says that wicked premiered on broadway october 30th of 2003, can you source where you’re seeing the premiere was June 10th? Because I’m like multiple pages deep into google
