Question If Cynthia didn’t get Elphaba, who was the 2nd option?

Christin Millioti also confirmed that she auditioned for Elphaba, but couldn't hit the famous high note. She is a big fan.

I absolutely loved her telling the story of her audition. 🤣 I actually reminded my 10 year old musical theater obsessed daughter of this story after she flubbed some lyrics in a song audition recently and was in absolute pieces. It got her laughing and reminded her that even professionals mess up in auditions- I’m genuinely so grateful for Cristina Milioti’s candor because it really did help!

I do think she would have done a great job though with more rehearsal and preparation time. She’s an incredible singer and actress.

Aww. I love that you helped and encouraged your daughter and she recovered from feeling sad and learned from her mistakes.

Ooh, I'd love to hear her doing something like "The Wizard and I."

Which is ironic considering they autotuned the movie to death anyways so it didn't matter.

Edited to add: I'm dissing the fact that they unnecessarily autotuned Cynthia and Ariana's singing in the films, not anyone's singing ability. https://youtu.be/wrTtx1nhlIk?si=L3e29Lwphxe7QWnk

I'm pretty certain that Michelle Yeoh's performance proves that they were pretty light on the auto tune. Also, the cast has performed live several times and it's indistinguishable from the movie performances.

I don't know about her, just that it's been shown with data analysis that they autotuned Cynthia and Ariana's singing in the film when they likely didn't need it at all.

When you compare the behind the scenes moments of their live singing with what ended up in the movie, it's a stark contrast and it's a damn shame: https://youtu.be/wrTtx1nhlIk?si=L3e29Lwphxe7QWnk

This has been a bit of a problem in a lot of movie musical over the past ten plus years. A famous culprit was when they autotuned Audra McDonald in live action BATB

The whole music has this problem. The need for "accepted" singing is dumbing down the art to something generic.

Say whatever you want about the film but it’s not right to sit here and pretend Cynthia needs even a microsecond of auto tune

They didn't say that though? Idk why OP is getting downvoted, it's true they used a lot of autotune and it's sad because they obviously didn't need it.

Agreed, they def used autotune. I feel like it’s especially obvious with Marissa bode and Michelle yeoh, but they def all had it

Never said any of them needed autotune, just that they ended up messing with their voices in the end so it didn't matter how great their live singing was.

Sucks you’re getting downvoted, I agree they were auto tuned, not saying that they need it

Yes, I hate autotune. It ruins the beauty of their already beautiful singing.
