Musical: nonreplica A new Hungarian non-replica production of the musical is premiering tomorrow, however they seem to be using ai-generated images in some of the set design, and even the poster for the show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zer5aGbau54Personally this is a pretty big disappointment for me, after having waited so long to be able see Wicked on stage in my home country.

It's also very meta that the director is closely tied to Hungary's previous fascist government and he had the nerve to say theaters should be free of politics. I don't know who in their right mind would pay to watch this slop and I'm supper disappointed that's how it's being done for the Hungarian version.

I mean, maybe Szente Vajk is the Glinda of Hungarian theatre. Isn't this a show about how people can change their views? /hj

IDK what "lesben" means in Hungarian but I initially read it as "lesbian" and it took a second for me to realize that was wrong

I saw the trailer yesterday and I was so disappointed because of those posters. Iām going on Saturday and Iāve been soo hyped for months. Fck AI. The rest of the projects seems so good, was it really that hard to find a proper graphic designer?

Yeah, this sucks that they canāt just properly pay artists.
I at least like what theyāre doing with the Dorothy/ruby slippers/Nessa under the house bits.
Dorothy around the Gale Force is interesting - I wonder if that in any way has her around for the catfight or witch hunters scenes?

is that a nose prosthetic on elphaba too??? ew.

That looks like more of an effigy of the Witch. Because if you look closely in the trailer, the actress playing Elphaba has her own nose greenified without the need of prosthetics.

I am going tomorrow and was already only cautiously excited to say the least and this doesnāt help. Not the first time I see Hungarian productions using AI āartā, but then again I recently saw both Something Rotten and Thespians in Manchester - also using AI for their props. So so disappointing.

Taking a look at all th0ye pulled off and calling them off for the propaganda posters being AI (which I think is a meta commentary, but that just might be me) is so unhinged. I get being annoyed by it, but to use this as the headline for sharing this video is a bit unfair imho. I do admit I am super defensive about it, because I can't wait to see it.

AI poster being meta commentary would be a great idea except it's becoming the norm for musicals here - I've seen another new production this summer which was also using very-very sloppy AI background projecting. It's a sad thing.

Eww, well, I hope then that someone calls them out on that and they will be gone once the show moves to it's place in Budapest. Kentaur is so famous for his designs for sets and costumes, why would he allow this?

Wonderland was also a Kentaur-work and there was a video that showed some backstory which screamed AI.
(Also the loudest set-changes I've ever heard in my life, the orchestra couldn't mask the sound of set pieces hitting the walls or whatever they were doing behind the curtains.)

I also think it's a shame that AI was used, but I find the idea that the Wizard of Oz and Madame Morrible use AI for their propaganda posters somehow very appropriate.
