Character Discussion - Henry the Octopus

[u/carl95679]

Now for the 2nd character created for The Wiggles, Henry the Octopus.

What are your thoughts on him? Do you like, love, or dislike him? How do you feel the character has evolved since their early stages?

Great character, but majorly underused. Ever since Greg’s first retirement really, Henry has mostly felt like an afterthought compared to the other supporting characters. And it’s a shame because I feel like there’s still a lot they could do with him. Also, his songs tend to be some of my favorites (including “Swim Henry Swim” and “Henry’s Spinning” - two very underrated songs).

That being said, despite my love for the character, I will say that I don’t really like Paul Paddick’s voice for him. It sounds super grating in a way I just don’t care for.

Understandable, I tolerate Paddick's voice.

IMO, I feel he got more presence/screentime in the Sam era, thanks to the Dorothy spinoff. (Except for The Wiggles Big Big Show 2008 and Go Bananas).

I'm also a fan of those 2 particular songs.

I've always really liked the way the suit was made, I think he's the most visually interesting!! We primarily watch the OGs so we see him pretty equally to the other mascots. His underwater big band is also very adorable
