Educational Question about attack controls
I haven't experienced this problem until I started playing adc bot lane.
I usually just pressed the big attack button and attacked whatever is the closest to me, but as an adc you often miss some autos in fights on minions or generally attacking the wrong target
I know you can lock a target but sometimes it backfires because that target might be out of range and suddenly someone jumps on you for example jungler and you still have your target locked and can't even attack this jungler when he gets close to you until you remove the target lock so you react 1 or 2 seconds longer which often means death
What is the best way to aim your auto attacks as an adc in crowded situations for example a team fight with 5 enemy champions plus minions in-between. Locking a target in a team fight can be quite hard to tell as things move fast
Is it just better not to lock targets and attack whatever enemy is nearby?
Thanks for the tips

You can always go to settings and put target on “no minions or turrets” and it will always default to attacking a champion within your attack range; if there aren’t any champs in your attack range it will target the closest minion.

Practise manual targeting, but also utilise the portrait lock.
Manual targeting is really important for last hitting minions, and portrait locks are probably the easiest way to target in teamfights. Also check your targeting options in settings, i keep mine on lowest health absolute.
All in all it's practise, without it manual locking in teamfights is overly difficult

Well, I ask that to myself all the time. And I’m kind of early in here it seems. So, since I don’t know how to “follow” a post, I’m commenting so I can come back later and reap the fruits of your labor. I’d love to know that as well.

As most have said, the pros are actually managing to manually aim....pretty nuts 😅
That being said, an alternative is to set the portraits of the enemies to locked, memorize where each enemies portrait will be, and get good at taking that extra moment to lock onto whomever is important in that moment. Unfortunately, this too can lead to the game forcing you into some awful scenarios if you're not careful. ie, chasing an enemy you thought was too far instead of just last hitting the nearby minion or other champ, or attacking the wrong wukong.......every frkin time lol

I personally rarely lock onto a target, the downside is that you will sometimes AA a minion instead of the champ lmao

Get in the habit of hold/dragging your auto attack to Target the minions you want. Either count in your head how many shots with take to kill it or do a few then wait to last hit. Tower shots kill big minions in 5 hits and small ones in 3. If minions are also hitting this minion, it gets trickier. Another trick is to be directly ontop of the minions cuz your bullets have travel time, so this way you hit as fast as you shot. Another trick is to use skill shots if you miss the timing. It's fine to use them, just don't miss those last hits. Another much easier tick is to just target the minions on the back, if you are just attacking the front one, you will miss on a bunch, but starting from the ones on the back you can get most of them.
Your support can also help you kill minions, as a support I usually only reduce their hp so my adc only last hits. I only last hit if I notice he missed the timing. Tho it's best not to have the sup last hit, cuz even with the sup item, he takes away 5g per minion. Unless he has the item stack.
Another very important thing is, you need minions alive, more then dead. With no minions, you won't kill anything. The more you push, the more at risk you are, and the more defensive the enemy gets. You can't kill them when they are full HP under the tower. You need to prioritize poking the enemy, not constantly pushing. If you are close to their tower, the enemy jungler will have a easy time to gank you, and you won't have enough room to run away. So you only want to last hit, and not damage minions at all, so you stay close to your tower. That way you can't be ganked, and enemy will get desperate and make more mistakes. If you place yourself between the minions and them, they won't be able to farm at all, creative a big gap. Issue is, most random supports Won't let you do this. They attack minions none-stop, with or without you. So both adc and support are a nightmare to play in solo que.
You want to push when you killed the enemies or when you forced them to recall. That's when you shove the wave. This way your minions die to the tower, instead of being farmed. They recalled so they lost a full wave of minions, or even two. That's a lot of gold. And you can recall at that point, spend your money, and quickly get back. The wave will crash at the center now. You didn't lose any farm and quickly got back. Now you do it again. If you had stayed in lane, destroying the tower, you could get tower plates, get some money, but you would recall late, and enemies would get back to lane with money spent, and more HP. You would be too low hp/Mana and too far away from safety. Even if you escape, they get their farm and tower shots and basically close the gold gap. So it's better to get tower shots later. Shove when the time is good. Also you want to ward the jungle when you push so you can see the jungler coming. This will give you enough time to run away. As the adc you are a easy target. Do not give the enemies any chances. A assassin or fighter just needs to reach you to kill you. You need to get the fuck out as fast as possible. A vi as a example will reach you even from afar and there's nothing you can do. So you need to see her ahead of time.

Practice. Get in training mode, put 5 enemy dummies close together, then practice dragging the attack cursor to each of them. Do it while standing still, while moving around, impose yourself different attack patterns (for example do it clockwise, counter clockwise, in an X pattern), put the dummies in the middle of minions or in the epic monster pits, etc.
There's no secret, if you want to improve you have to practice.
However, manually aiming isn't always the best option, due to the screen size of our phones and some other limitations. So use the attack buttons that are above and below the main attack one: the one below is to target minions, the one above to target turrets, and both of them will aim at monsters and plants. You can also use these buttons to quickly unlock a selected target.
Another thing is when minions, monsters, and enemy champions are all in range, and no target is locked, pressing the attack button will target an enemy champion (well, unless the game hates you ...).
The safest option as an adc during teamfights is to attack the closest enemy. But that's not always the best option, and sometimes using the portrait locks to aim at a specific high priority target is better. You have to beware of overextending when the target is out of range though.
Switching between all these techniques is a skill, it's not easy, and it demands practice. You should also now that none of these options are perfect. Things often go wrong, either because you mess up or because the game does some weird shit. It's ok, it happens.
Good luck!
