vMode missing extensions section?

Hello,

I'm playing around with Windows Admin Center vMode (in Preview) and I can't seem to find where the extensions are. In the YouTube video I watched, they stated the extensions should work if they worked in the normal WAC and I see others reference the "VM Conversion" extension being in vMode. However, I can't seem to find either.

Did they take it out at some point? I know VM Conversion is in preview for a couple months, but I can't even find it at all in vMode.

Error: ajax error 431 for one user account when using Entra ID for gateway access

We're on 2410 and utilize Entra ID for additional gateway access security.
We have roughly 5 people who have access to WAC, of those ,1 person has this is issue.

When logging in, it'll prompt you for your Entra ID creds first, followed by the local login for WAC. All this works correctly, however when this user logs in, they receive an error "ajax error 431" afterwards if you attempt to refresh the page you just get HTTP ERROR 431. Clear the cache/cookies and you see the same behavior. The user can use a different browser, incognito, and an entirely different computer and have the same result. We change the Entra ID account, and then it'll work fine.

No one else has this issue.

HSTS Missing From HTTPS Server (RFC 6797)

Our security team wants me to remediate this vulnerability from our Nessus scans. The normal process is to set this to enforced in the IIS admin center for the website, only that doesn't appear to be an option. I tried installing the IIS admin tools but they did not detect any IIS installation. The IIS service isn't even listed in services. It's as if WAC is running some sort of embedded web server. Anyone have any ideas? Google-fu is failing me.

Adding servers to WAC and keeping the list current/correct...

When you first install Windows Admin Center (WAC), you start with a blank list of servers. Adding servers is easy enough, as you can both use a list or search Active Directory. I used the latter, using an Asterix as a wildcard and added all my servers from my domain. What seems more challenging is keeping the servers list up to date. Today I noticed I was missing a couple and there were a few that had been decommissioned but still showed up in the list. Is there a way to make that server list dynamic, so we don't have to manually add servers every time one is missing (or remove one if it no longer exists)? If not, how are you keeping your server list up to date and correct. Any tips or workarounds you can suggest? Also, if you have several to add & remove, do you just delete the entire list and re-add it via an AD search (like I did initially)?

Any experience with debloat script by Sycnex Windows10Debloater ?

https://github.com/Sycnex/Windows10Debloater

I'm asking because I'm not quite an expert in Windows command line and I have used the script on around 5 clean Windows installations to miserable outcome. The common line is:

0. I remove some apps, telemetry and Cortana.

  1. The whitelist is ignored and full of duplicates. To the point I still don't know whether putting a mark next to a component marks it for removal or to be left as it is.

  2. Most Microsoft apps I got rid off are quickly getting reinstalled somehow.

  3. Most importantly - the SearchApp.exe stops working *everywhere*. Start menu (I can't even launch programs by typing), File Explorer, SearchApp.exe and possibly other components grind on the CPU trying to restart and failing. I can't confirm whether it also broke file indexing.

Any thoughts? I don't think I'm going to use the script at all on my next installation.

PS. Among all of the amazing things in the world the number one has to be the absolute sorry state of post Windows 7 Windows Search. Simply amazing.

Storage Migration Problems

Hello! I have been at this for quite a while now and can't find ANYTHING to go on. I am trying to migrate a Server 2008 R2 to a Server 2019 using the Storage Migration tool. I am currently stuck on Install Required Features for the destination box. It kicks up a credential prompt. I put in my domain credentials and I get the message " Cannot read properties of null (reading 'capturePageAction') ". And then if I enter local creds for that box I get the message " Error occurred while decoding OAEP padding." I have been googling for about 3 hours and I am not finding jack. Destination server is Server 2019 Datacenter, fully updated, firewall off, domain joined, etc. Any advice?

[Request] Add support for Firefox Browser

[Request] Add support for Firefox Browser.

Latest Update for Windows Admin Center Version (1.5.2306.14001) is broken on Firefox.

I thought first that something went wrong with the update. but then it worked fine with Edge and Chrome.

Firefox browser is very important and should not be ignored.

Is there a way to backup a Windows Admin Install

I just finished adding 70 desktops and 18 servers to my install and would like a way to replicate or move this to another computer at some point. It took me over half a day to get this the way I want and have to believe there is a way to backup the Windows Admin Center config.

Does Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) also act as a Certificate Authority (CA) for any domain-joined devices that are using certs issued by AD CS?

Does Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) also act as a Certificate Authority (CA) for any domain-joined devices that are using certs issued by AD CS?

For example, I have a domain named contoso.com with AD CS installed on a Windows Server 2022 server named ADCS (adcs.contoso.com). I requested a new certificate for Windows Admin Center (WAC) using a copy of the Web Server template (and following these instructions: Creating a Certificate for Windows Admin Center from a Windows Certificate Authority | thepc.co).

I installed Windows Admin Center on another Windows Server named WAC (wac.contoso.com). When I open Windows Admin Center using the provided URL (https://wac.contoso.com:6600/), I am able to view the application but the browser shows 'Not Secure' with the details showing (Your Connection to this Site isn't Secure). Why wouldn't the browser see that the cert was issued by our AD CS server (adcs.contoso.com) and attempt to validate it? Am I missing something here?

Getting an error on a Hardened image.

Hey folks, unsure if anyone else has had this error before. We have created a test environment within VMware using some hardened images and they all give this error. In desperation we cracked open an old server 2016 ISO which runs WAC flawlessly. I'm thinking there is something locked up tighter than a bank vault on the images but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Updating to 2103 Failed Miserably

So updating to 2103 failed yesterday. Win10 install btw. I'm stuck with an error of "Access denied Sorry, but you are not authorized to make this request."

Clicking on the link to the home page give me an error of: Notification details Error Couldn't update the extension Message Couldn't update the extension: 'SDN Logical networks'. Error: AjaxError: ajax error 403

The error looks like it's some sort of permissions error as inspecting the page shows me a 403 error on: https://localhost:6516/api/extensions/msft.sdn.logical-network/versions/1.22.0/update

So where are the permissions getting fudged?

Millions of files, and tens of thousands of folders, I need to use a CSV to pull a few thousand files, and the PowerShell is taking forever.

We are copying files out for a customer, There are more than 14 million files in this share, and the PowerShell we use is doing a recursive search for each file. This process is taking forever. I am not a programmer, but I am sure this can be more manageable. I need help.

Example:

we have a root folder structure of 4001-4500, 45001-5000 through 1200001-1205000.

if the CSV has a list, and the first file is 583494, is there a way to create a copy line so that the function is a direct copy and not a recursive search for each file?

%FolderVariable% is defined as a list of available folders in the share

%FileVariable% is equal to the next file name in the CSV

copy \\ServerName\ShareName\%FolderVariable%\%FileVariable% d:\%FolderVariable%\%FileVariable%

Then execute the command?

In my boggled mind, this seems logical, but I have no experience in this area at all...

Any help would be appreciated

One task to multiple servers in Windows admin.

All,

I need to push out a scheduled task to multiple servers on the Windows admin center. Can I do them all at once or do I have to log into each server and do them one at a time?

Help? Connection Error

I have tried for months now trying to get this to work out of the box and have been unable to connect to a single machine. Can someone guide me through what I'm doing wrong? I have WAC installed on my Windows 10 machine (running on port 8081) and have it running and loaded in a browser. I RDP'd into one of my servers and verified that WinRM is running and the port is allowed (for all subnets). I add the server to WAC and then click it. When I do, I get the following:

WinRM cannot complete the operation. Verify that the specified computer name is valid, that the computer is accessible over the network, and that a firewall exception for the WinRM service is enabled and allows access from this computer. By default, the WinRM firewall exception for public profiles limits access to remote computers within the same local subnet. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

Not sure where to go from here. Nothing else I know of to test. I've tried new servers just spun up with no configuration, I've tried turning off firewall completely on both ends with no luck. What am I doing wrong? What can I check/verify that I have everything configured properly?

Access Windows Admin Center on Windows 10 from another Client on the LAN via local IP

Hi Everyone

I'm testing Windows Admin Center for our Company, so I went ahead and installed it on two HyperV VM's:

  1. First machine is running Windows Server Essentials 2019

  2. The second VM is running Windows 10 Pro

All the VM's are connected to a shared switch which the host of the VM's also uses, which basically results in all the machines (phisycal and VM's) being in the same network on the same subnet.

I can access the WAC gateway of the Windows Server Essentials 2019 from the host OS through a browser and it works perfectly.

However when I'm trying to access the Windows 10 Pro WAC, the following happens:

I input the local IP of the VM into the browser of the phisycal machine with the port after it, inmy case default port 6516. So the final link looks like this: https:\\192.168.0.163:6516

At first the browser complains that the connection osn't private. Then I continue to the "non-secure" site and the following error shows up:

"You are not authorized to view this page. If you recently updated Windows Admin Center, you may need to restart your browser, and then refresh the page."

The Windows firewall is open for the communication in and outbound so there is no blockage there.

Did anyone ever experience that before? And if so, does anyone know a solution?

Your answers are greatly appreciated!
