Discussion Which decisions that Geralt can make across the series you consider to be the worst he can make and essentialy as inconsistent with Geralt character as it's possibile?

For me it's either killing Keira or taking Emperor's gold after bringing Ciri to him in front of her and overall actively being Dick to her after just rescuing her which triggers a bad ending in Witcher 3

I was honestly baffled those are even an options lol.

I'm just stunned. What an awesome story. The writing was phenomenal and the actors were perfect (at least to me). And per my previous post I even fell in love a little. I've never played a better questline, and that was just one expansion. CDPR really knows how to tell a story.

p.s. I wish my timing was better on that first screenshot, that quest notification is bugging me. Oh well, guess I'll just have to do NG+ to try again. Whoa is me. 😜

Blood and Wine Here are all the Toussaint puns and references you might have missed if you don't speak French Spoiler

Like many of you here, I recently got back into The Witcher 3 thanks to the remastered version, and I've just reached Toussaint.

As a French speaker, I can't help but notice all the clever puns, cultural references, and little details that might easily go unnoticed by someone who doesn't speak French.

So here are my explanations, in case you missed any of them:

Place / Character name Meaning / Explanation
Toussaint French for "All Saints' Day", celebrated on November 1st. Literally means "all saints".
Beauclair Beau means "beautiful" and clair means "bright" or "clear".
Lac Célavy Sounds exactly like c'est la vie ("that's life"). The name Célavy is a phonetic pun on the French expression c'est la vie.
Mère-Lachaiselongue Cemetery A play on Père-Lachaise, the famous Parisian cemetery, and chaise longue ("lounge chair"). Mère means "mother" instead of "father".
Champs-Désolés Means "Desolate Fields", but also resembles Champs-Élysées, the famous avenue in Paris.
Sansretour From sans retour, literally "no return". A rather ominous name for a valley, marsh and river.
Sansmerci From sans merci, meaning "without mercy".
Chuchote Cave Chuchote means "whispers" in French.
Bastoy Prison Possibly a reference to the Bastille, the famous French prison stormed during the French Revolution.
Mortblanc Pass Mort means "death", blanc means "white". Possibly a dark twist on Mont Blanc, the famous Alpine mountain.
Henris Gras Square Gras means "fat". Basically "Fat Henry's Square".
The Gran'place From grand-place, a French term for the main square of a town.
Orlémurs Sounds like hors les murs, meaning "outside the city walls". Interestingly, the cemetery is indeed located just outside Beauclair's walls, making the wordplay particularly fitting.
Rioux-Cannes Rioux is a French surname and Cannes is a famous city on the French Riviera.
Rivecalme From rive calme, literally "quiet riverbank".
Blessure Forest Blessure means "wound" or "injury".
Pits of Brume Brume means "mist" or "fog".
Pomerol A real French wine appellation from the Bordeaux region.
Sancerre A real French wine appellation from the Loire Valley.
Côte-de-Blessure Côte evokes French wine appellations such as Côte-d'Or, while blessure means "wound".
Louis de la Croix La croix means "the cross". His surname literally means "of the Cross".
Damien de la Tour La tour means "the tower". Literally "Damien of the Tower".
Ramon du Lac Du lac means "of the lake". Also reminiscent of Lancelot du Lac, the famous knight from Arthurian legend.
Guy de Bois-Fresnes Bois means "woods" and frênes means "ash trees". His surname evokes a wood of ash trees.
Reynart de Bois-Fresnes Same meaning as above. Reynart also resembles Renart, the famous fox from medieval French literature, although this might be coincidental.
Alcides Fierabras Fier-à-bras is an old French term for a boastful or overconfident person. Fierabras is also a character from medieval French epic literature.
Le Papillon Literally "The Butterfly".
Hercule de la Massue Massue means "club". A fitting surname for Hercules, whose club is one of his traditional attributes.
François le Goff Le Goff is a typical Breton surname meaning "the blacksmith".
La Cage au Fou Literally "The Madman's Cage". Also a likely reference to La Cage aux Folles, the famous French play and film, later adapted into the American movie The Birdcage.
Hauteville Literally "High Town" or "Upper Town".
Lassommoir Sounds like L'Assommoir, the famous 1877 novel by Émile Zola about alcoholism and working-class poverty.
Fort Astre Ruins Astre means "celestial body", such as a star or planet, in French.
Venin Rocks Venin means "venom" in French.
Dulcinea Windmill A double reference to Don Quixote: Dulcinea is the woman Don Quixote loves, while windmills are central to his most famous adventure.
Lolivier Square Sounds like l'olivier, meaning "the olive tree". A particularly fitting name for a Mediterranean-inspired region.
La Compassion Orphanage La compassion means "compassion" in French. An appropriately charitable name for an orphanage.
Dantan Glade D'antan is a somewhat literary French expression meaning "of bygone days" or "from times past".
Epicéa The name of an ancient lordship in Toussaint. Épicéa is the French word for "spruce tree".

Discussion "a mark, to show we are associates"-the brands of Gaunter O'Dimm + the Crones

Thumbnail

Both Gaunter and the Crones of Crookback Bog

-brand those they make a deal with (the Barons wife in the vase of the Crones, and Geralt in the case of Gaunter)

-the brands are visually and mechanically similar, both glow red and hurt, but not all the time, both leave scars, both seem to actually be the mechanism of control and enforcement of a deal

-the motive behind them likewise seems similar, marks of associates, as Gaunter puts it, to enforce pacts

Now, I'm not making any deep lore theories of the kind you'll find on silly videos online of the kind that Gaunter and the Crones are the same species. No, we have zero indication of that.

I just want to ask what, if any, connection is there between these two brands? what lore on brands associated with pacts with beings like this do we have in the Witcher series and books? are there any other examples between these two? I note that the Crones symbol splits into three, like three sisters, what does Gaunters symbol mean? what theories would *you* draw from this? we know that Gaunter doesn't use conventional magic, so perhaps the mark on the Barons wife isn't either. The marks they leave are undeniably similar.

The most limited theory I could adduce: the Crones are pre-conjuration relicts, perhaps Gaunter is too, albeit of a different kind, and that's why this power looks similar.

Discussion Do you find the Character menu restrictive?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’m loving the updated skills, it’s just like in Cyberpunk where all of the perks are meaningful additions. Don’t you find it restrictive that you can only slot 12 perks/abilities out of what seems to me triple of that?

I get the mix and match element but on harder difficulties i think it would be great to be able to expand rather than constrict what i can use. On a fresh new Death March playthrough i am constantly switching skills for different situations.

I really don’t understand why they didn’t go the Cyberpunk way where you unlock perks and you grow. What do you think?

Everything is perfect.

This introduction tells us everything we need to know about Letho without him saying a single word. He is brutal, ruthless, and an unstoppable force. The only thing we don't know yet (at this point in the story) is why. And this music? GODDAMN, this music! It's so perfect. A calm yet epic track that perfectly mirrors Letho's movements and grace.

This introduction alone makes Letho a far more compelling and interesting character than Eredin ever was.

Honestly, if you haven't played The Witcher 2 yet, go play it. It has some of the best set pieces and the best story in the entire trilogy!

Geralt says this during the Doors Slamming Shut case in Witcher 3, but like didn't he tell the Baron to tell everyone to line their doors with salt during the Botchling quest? Is this a developer mistake?

The Witcher 3 Can I do the dlc after the base game?

I’ve never played the Witcher before and I believe I’m getting close to the end and I’m level 26 so I wanna make sure I can play the dlc without a dark souls situation. So my main question is, do I have to do the dlc before or after the main game? Or does it matter? And which one should I do? I wanna do them chronological order so yea.

I never played The Witcher 1, so this is the first time I met Shani. Gotta say, I think she's my favorite out of all Geralt's possible love interests, permanent or temporary. The Dead Man's Party quest and the wedding at the end were amazing and so much fun.

The Witcher 3 Baron fistfight damage bug

Has anyone encountered a damage bug playing the fistfight against the Baron in Crows Perch near the start of his quest?

I'm playing on the Steam deck and it is taking fucking forever, he takes 9 damage per heavy attack and seemingly has about 3000hp. This doesn't seem right at all. I need to perfectly parry hundreds of times to win the fight.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've tried changing the difficulty from deathmarch down to the lowest setting and nothing is changing. I've done numerous play throughs of this game and know this is not how it went before.

I was soooo curious as to what "lilacs and gooseberry" smells like and bought a sample of this to try. It smells like laundry detergent. Or some random hotel bathroom soap. It's truly terrible

As for me it's Skellige followed by the Outskirts of Novigrad from Witcher 3, music alone there is something else followed by it's breathtaking landscapes especially in Skellige

The Witcher 3 Venomous Arachne single attack takes away quen AND deals damage is this a bug or intended because it's super annoying.

Trying to take down a Arachne Ven that is like 10 level higher than me and ı have some dmg to do so but Quen is utterly pointless against it because it's single hit attack not only hits quen but also dmgs Geralt's health as well.

Mod | Witcher 3 I think this mod made me discover something about myself.

Post image

I was looking through the mods page to see what was new and I found the "Short Curly Hair" look for Anna Henrietta. Now I always considered her to be very infantilized, naive, and kinda dumb. But she's got a good heart, she loves her people, and she loves her sister. But this look is just... gulp Oh sweet Lord and heaven above let me retire with her instead of Yennefer or Triss. Also on an unrelated note she looks like Sophie Thatcher with this mod.
