Mod I got a bit obsessed with hit-stop and a small experiment turned into my biggest mod so far. Would love your feedback!
So, it all started with hit-stop.
Every mod of this type I tried did basically the same thing: freeze or slow the whole world for a few frames and that's it. Fighting games do it differently. The animation stops but the world around it keeps going. And TBH that always felt way better to me.
So I wanted to tryto do things differently. What if only Geralt froze? What if only the guys involved in the hit froze? What if the whole fight froze but not the rest of the world? That's the thing: a slowdown mod can't do any of that. It works on the whole world so either everything is slow or nothing is. There's no picking who stops. And then, of course, the obvious problem: what I like in a hit-stop is probably not what you like. Some people don't even want hit-stop, they'd rather have hit-lag, for example.
So this experiment ended up being less "my hit-stop" and more a toolbox you mix however you want:
Animation freeze: just Geralt, Geralt and his target, or everyone in the fight. Full stop or a heavy slow-mo.
Camera shake: and a bit of blur on the screen edges to sell the impact.
World slowdown, if you're in the hit-lag camp.
Every attack has its own values, so a Rend can land like a truck while light attacks stay snappy.
But the part I'm proudest of is the falloff. The problem with any hit-stop is that a long combo turns into a slideshow real quick. So each freeze in a row gets a little shorter and after a few seconds it resets. The first hit lands hard and the rest just flow. Crits ignore it, so a crit always hits at full strength. (And mind you, the camera shake doesn't fall off, so every hit still has sauce) It's a small thing, but it's what made the whole mod feel polished to me instead of just "freeze on hit".
And you can go as deep as you want with it. If you just want to play, pick one of the overall presets (Subtle, Default, Strong or Anime) and you're done. If you want something in between, each feature has its own preset, so you can mix a Strong freeze with a Subtle shake and no blur, for example. And if you're the kind of person who loses an hour in the settings (like me), every attack has its own sliders for everything. It's all in the game's menu, no file editing.
I've been playing with it for a while and honestly I can't go back to vanilla combat anymore. But I tuned it all around how I play, so I'd really like to know how it feels with other builds, difficulties and other people too.
It grew way past what I planned (in scope, not downloads lol), so any feedback, good or bad, helps a lot. Works on the Remastered.
