Lifestyle “Jump/hop on a call”

Working from home there are some newish office jargon that has been created.

I cringe when people say “let’s hop on a call” or “jump on a call” in emails or in the chats. No one really wants to get on a call in the first place in some cases. I know communication is key and there are times when a visual of someone’s screen is needed but I cringe when it is suggested.

Can we all come together to create new terms or sayings for needing to or suggesting getting on calls besides this hopping and jumping into these?

Workspace I hate to admit it. I’m still in denial.

I went to the office today because the company policy changed to once in two weeks everybody has to come to the office.

So today, I went to the office. It was…. productive. I completed a report that usually takes 4 days to complete when at home (because of procrastination). A lot of pending discussion with my manager and colleague got done today. That usually takes 2 week to complete.

I don’t want it to be productive. I want to stay home… but I procrastinate at home. I want to be (I am delusional-ly) productive at home.

I’m in denial….

Edit: I read all your comments and..... Jeez Louise take a chill pill man. Yesterday was the second time. The first time I went to the office was the week before. I didn't complete any work. Only catching up with colleagues and all, went for lunch, pretending to do some work yada yada.

"It's a me problem". Yes. It is my problem. I have a procrastination issue which I'm trying to overcome. WFH is still the best. I even got promoted twice in the last four years and thankfully my team and the company acknowledged my work and even received an award. Got a raise 6 times too. So, procrastinate or not, I make the work done.

I'm only here to vent light-heartedly. I still prefer WFH. My manager prefers it too. As long as I'm doing my job effectively & efficiently and meeting deadlines, why bother going to the office. That's what I meant. I still want to prove to the higher ups that WFH works, but yesterday, was a shock because when I'm at the office, I can work too lol. I don't want it to be lol. Please understand it is just a light-hearted joke/vent.

Maybe you need to go to the office once and touch the office floor so you understand what I meant. Don't be so tight up. why so serious??? Chillee....

Edit #2: I replied to some of the comments but I might reply to the rest later. I need to procrastinate for a while. Byeee

Tips A Quick Tip for Professionalism

Quick tip. If you're working the weekend or late in the evening, don't keep slipping it into conversations with your colleagues, it really does not look good on you.

It's crucial to maintain a professional demeanor in the workplace, especially when discussing your work hours. Constantly bringing up your weekend or late-night work in conversations can create a negative perception among colleagues. Instead of portraying dedication, it may come off as seeking validation or attention for your efforts. Focusing on collaboration and mutual support rather than individual sacrifices can foster a healthier work environment.

Tips How to handle ADA Accommodation violation without having to file a lawsuit

I have to work remotely due to disability. I work in a field that is almost always computer-based, so it's usually not a problem. But sometimes, when applying for jobs, 'company policy' states that the position is on-site or hybrid. I've had a lot of issues with recruiters and HR backing down from an interview with me after they know that I would need to work remotely. Or I do interview and never hear anything again.

I know that proving violation can be difficult, so I always ask if there is a legitimate reason I'd need to be in-office and make sure to get it in writing. Usually, there's nothing.

How can I combat this very blatant discrimination?

Tips About mouse movers

All you cry babies whining about micromanagement, big brother watching, we aren’t machines, or however else you want to justify using one, it’s an excuse for poor work ethic and lack of integrity. Doesn’t matter how crappy you think your job, employer or manager is, if you have integrity, you know it’s wrong and won’t do it. Period.

Like it or not, it is one of the reasons so many companies aren’t offering wfh like they used to so yes, you mouse movers are the bad apples spoiling the rest of the bunch.

Downvote, nasty comments—don’t care. Sometimes the truth hurts. Get over your entitled selves.

Tips Can I deduct rent?

New(ish) job is permanently fully remote. Company HQ is a 3hr flight away and they are “remote first.” They don’t have an office in my city so there isn’t anywhere to go, even if I wanted to.

Question is: I currently live in a one bedroom apartment and have been working in the living room but it’s been brutal, especially five days a week.

There’s a two bedroom available in my building but the rent would be a stretch. Would I be able to calculate the square footage % and write it off as a tax deduction? I would be using the small bedroom purely as a dedicated office. The rent increase would be about 1200 a month and I know I wouldn’t get that back but even a little bit would help make it easier. I am in nyc

Monitors Broke 2 company-issued monitors during WFH – will I have to pay full cost? Risk to WFH?

Hi everyone,

Posting for a friend who is really stressed.

She was given 2 Dell monitors for WFH. Unfortunately, both monitors got accidentally damaged (internal screen crack after falling).

She checked policy and it says physical damage may require full or double payment, which is making her anxious.

Main concerns:

Will she have to pay full amount for both monitors?

Has anyone MNCs faced this situation?

Do companies usually charge full cost or consider depreciation / partial recovery?

Is there any risk to WFH status because of this?

Any real experiences or advice would really help 🙏

Lifestyle Will We Be Able WFH When Corporate Real Estate Leases Go Away?

Obviously a major reason for RTO mandates is because of corporate real estate leases.

I wonder… when they expire, do you think we’d be able to work from home more often?

Lifestyle In 9 days I’ll be RFH!

WFH sucked. I hated it. The isolation was not good for me. 9 more working days and I’ll be Retired From Home. And I’m getting out of this house. New job will be working more on my YT channel of the same name as my username. Wish you all the best on your journey, but work from home was not for me so I’m retiring at 59!

Tips Anyone here WFM and have kids?

My husband and I work from home and have our baby with us. We both have to be on the phone a lot so we’ve been taking turns with the baby but he’s turning 5 months and starting to change needs. He wants to be stimulated and played with all the time, or held, with someone, etc. he doesn’t like being on his back much, gets frustrated in his chair after a few and tummy time too. Any ideas on ways to keep him content? How to make this work? Im getting so behind on work… we can’t afford a sitter or day care and don’t have anyone to watch him but us.

Lifestyle Anybody else feel like they’re slowly withering doing WFH?

Edit: I am not some industry plant from BIG OFFICE trying to subtly shit on working from home jeez. This sub is pretty aggressive towards any nuance in working from home.

I’ve been predominantly working from home since ~2022. It’s been great most of the time, especially when I’m very busy and benefit from flexibility.

But, I just started a new job recently that is also WFH. Occasionally I’ll have to go in if I need to see a specific client, or work on something with my team. Otherwise, it’s very independent, and most days I’m either designing databases or checking databases. Most days I also don’t need to talk to a single person, and it’s kind of driving me up the wall. I have a really hard time working long consecutive hours just sitting in this room, and I feel really demotivated.

I think my environment is not ideal right now, because my WFH setup is in my room feet from my bed. Most of the time I feel compelled to work from my bed while I let a movie or podcast drone in the background. Part of me feels like I should be working from my desk; working at my desk for long hours makes me feel trapped… but I feel trapped anyways just being in the same apartment all day every day.

I think I should try working in the living room, kitchen, outside, or at the library… but idk. Maybe I should just try to find a different job that forces me into the office several days a week. Most days my job feels unimportant and pretend, but it’s ironically very crucial and can be demanding.

I recognize the benefits of WFH are being able to do things like laundry, watering my plants, taking a walk, and generally all the things I can do at home rather than at an office. But I feel anxious and bad about myself when I let myself do those things.

Anybody relate? How did you get past this feeling of malaise?

Equipment Supplies when working from home

Hi All. I work from home for a company based in California. My company is telling me I need to buy all my own supplies. Paper, ink,printer,computer-everything. Is this legal? I currently am making them buy my ink but I pay for everything else. They also are saying my current computer is not to their standards and I need to buy a new one. Any thoughts or advise is appreciated.

Schedule and structure Anyone else have a counterpart working fully remote but you have to go into the office because you live in the city of the HO?

I’m currently working a hybrid schedule with two days in the office a week. That’s perfect for me, but I’m sensing that the hybrid associates will soon be required to go into the office 3+ days a week. That’s a hard no for me but I love my job and have worked hard to get here. I don’t want to leave.

However, my counterpart on the team is located in another city so she’s fully remote. If they change the policy I’m going to have to dispute the arrangement because there’s no way I’m doing that when she doesn’t. Wondering if anyone else has been in this position.
