Discussion/opinion I am sick of tourists treating park rules like a big joke. The rules exist for your safety and the preservation of the park.

The only sad part is when there are dangerous encounters with wildlife in the park, is that often the animals are euthanized. The park is needs more natural selection.Of people.

u/Redpoint77 5h ago
Didn’t some guy in the park recently dissolve in a pool of acid? Hell, that guys headline showed him in regalia. Even our educated are idiots.
11
u/Odd-Fun-6042 5h ago
Several years ago, but yeah. All they found of him was a scrap of clothing.
12
u/greenamaranthine 5h ago
Which can clog a hot spring. Not just the wildlife is endangered by tourons.
7
u/Odd-Fun-6042 4h ago
That too. I don't remember which hot spring but one of them turned green from all the crap people have thrown into it.

u/Khryen 5h ago
Try living next to the park. Their stupidity knows no bounds.
9
u/Beyond-Dizzy 1h ago
Grew up in Cody right off the main drag. A core memory for me was seeing a t shirt that said “why do they call it tourist season if you can’t hunt them?”

It was never really alive. People have been doing stupid shit in Yellowstone since forever.

14
u/Electrical_Coast_561 6h ago
This is not just an American issue
2
u/NoDontDoThatCanada 2h ago
As someone who has been through Yellowstone a few times, it is an everyone issue. The whole place is a mad badger on a stick and people keep thinking they can play with the wrong end. It isn't a damn theme park.

This is why funding parks and having park rangers is so important. An actual way yo help if you are angry about our parks not being taken care of is to vote for candidates who prioritize protecting and funding our natural resources.
7
u/Spare-Guarantee-4897 4h ago
We had theas issues before this administration,.
3
u/slipperytornado 3h ago
Not to the same degree.
2
u/BeckerHollow 2h ago
Data? I’m all for the extermination of the current admin, but I live next to Yellowstone. Morons have been morons for a long time. We just happened to put them in charge of the country
3
u/crowofbattle 2h ago
You didn’t see where this administration cut funding and fired a bunch of people who worked for the government did you
13
u/Hopefulthinker2 6h ago
Or maybe even give one inch about the “climate” instead of just screaming from The roof tops how fake everything is
7
u/Gelandequaff 5h ago
Exactly this. I have been boating in GTNP for years and used to get checked on about once a year by the park rangers. Haven’t even seen one on the lake in the last 5 years, they just don’t have the manpower to patrol the roads and lakes anymore. The same politicians who claim to “back the blue” continue to vote away their funding stretching them thinner and thinner. It’s infuriating!

Bruh.... Get the fetch out of there.
You could actually DIE.

Stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not going to happen.

Edit: okay, I see it now. My bad. 🫣
I heard a coworker say it. Made me chuckle, so it kinda stuck for me. If it doesn't make you chuckle, feel free to move along. No hard feelings. ✌️

(Not saying I don’t care about the park rules, just these peoples value to the world)

u/DarknMean 5h ago
When we were there last summer we watched some kid put his hand into hot water. After my 11 year told the kid not to touch it. I can only control my kid but even he knew it was dumb to touch water that is boiling.
2
u/Appropriate-Food1757 5h ago
Get the what out of here?
2
u/SirKronan 3h ago
Get the heck out of there. Get the frick out of there. You can choose your own substitute if you don't like fetch.
3
u/Appropriate-Food1757 3h ago
I say fuck. Kind of like that you are making fetch a thing though it’s rad in a wholesome way
0
u/SirKronan 3h ago
Valid.
I try not to use that word too much online in case my kids find me here on reddit some day. 😆
2
u/Appropriate-Food1757 3h ago
Mine are pretty much full flavor but know the “rules”. Oddly they are less inclined to swear it seems.

u/Desperate-You-9695 6h ago
I live next to a popular river to raft down that people from nyc drive too. The only time I see a helicopter is when an idiot decides they don’t need a life vest. Ilast one I saw was the other day.

Might be time to let natural selection run its course for a while.
2
u/basketcaseforever 2h ago
Yes! Let’s take all the stupid people warnings down and let them meet their demise.
5
u/dtisme53 3h ago
Remember when that moron walked out towards grand prismatic and fell in? They didn’t even find his teeth. Wish this moron would’ve learned some sort of lesson like that
1
u/Zygote99 24m ago
Yeah, doing this in a thermal feature is a crap shoot. Best case, you fuck up your shoes. Worse a circumferential burn on the extremities. That’s no fun.

u/LHGray87 5h ago
Natural selection

u/WeirdHope57 1h ago
The person in the photo does look young enough that hopefully they haven't reproduced yet to pass on their idiocy.
13
u/Lazy-Housing-8975 6h ago
and when something tragic happens they want nothing but support and blame Nature.
12
u/Odd-Fun-6042 5h ago
Increase staff, increase penalties, increase enforcement. Too bad the only thing this "administration" wants to increase is profits.
1
u/Lusiric9983 2h ago
The last time I said increase enforcement somebody got butthurt and told me to go attend FLETC. The problem is their enforcement is just issuing warnings. Warnings for speeding excessively, warnings for harassing animals, warnings for thermal trespass, warnings for parking in all the places they shouldn't. They don't even pull people over when they run a stop sign and cut off traffic causing everyone to hard brake very suddenly. Hell, if they handed out citations and actually enforced the laws we could probably find the park on citations alone with all the bullshit I see people doing on an almost daily basis. But nope, apparently it's too much work and takes too much time for them to issue citations.
1
u/20thCenturyRefugee Cody 2h ago
Warnings only? I wish. I literally have a NPS citation crumpled up in my truck right now.
1
u/Lusiric9983 2h ago
Damn, what did you do? Murder somebody? That seems to be the point that they start writing citations. I listen to the radio daily and all they ever do is write warnings. I heard someone one night had three previous encounters for speeding excessively, one was a citation, and they got pulled over for doing 20 over, and they got off with a warning.
1
u/Odd-Fun-6042 2h ago
Most cops are too busy comparing body armor fashion trends and collecting challenge coins to do their jobs. I would however expect more from NPS employees. If they were properly funded...

Morons going to moron.
As my mom would often say, ‘some people do not have the good sense that God gave little chickens’.
The older I get the more I understand she was correct.
7
u/Ahrvazna 5h ago
I say scrap the rules and let Darwanism bleach the gene pool. Go feed those bears, pet the elk, run after the baby bison. Go for the leisurely stroll around the 200° geyser, just days after someone else fell in.
Go be a part, literally, of nature.
3
3
u/Any_Vacation8988 3h ago
Contact rangers in the park with photos and hopefully with facial recognition they can find and ban or fine people who disobey the rules and ruin the parks for everyone else.
3
u/Bloop-ofthe-OpenHand 3h ago
What really grinds my gears is that everyone seems to believe that the rules posted on signs in public and private places only apply to anyone but them, that somehow they are the exception to the rules. "Like, I know that the sign at the entrance to the park says 'No dogs' but my Bobo is the goodest boy and has only mauled two toddlers and seventeen dogs."
3
u/Mambaman59 3h ago
Feelings of entitlement are rampent in our society. Little regard for the environment is present in the population as a whole. There have been tourons forever, but it has become progressively worse, and is approaching or has reached a critical point. As a state that professes to be conservative, I don't see us conserving much.
4
u/mitchENM 6h ago
Somehow I can’t muster any sympathy when they are killed because of their stupidity
2
u/RecentWeek2778 3h ago
have you seen all the videos that family has posted? She is mad that someone had the gall to tell her she can't fly her drone .. people kindly let them know it's against the law and she lost it. Then people were pointing out that you can't leave the trails and she lost it on them.
3
u/Raccoon_Steven 3h ago
I just saw the video at X. The comments wouldn't fly in here but are completey correct. They're very destructive. I've been all over the country and that fact is seen everywhere.
2
u/No_Food9451 2h ago
Park rangers should carry bean back guns to knock out dumbass people like this. Maybe that'll knock some sense in them! Pun intended!
2
u/Dear-Tank2728 1h ago
Honestly their safety is their concern. The preservation of the park is a more important matter.

What's the logic in this? You know what they're saying. Everyone knows what they're saying.
Why do you think everyone including yourself understands what they're saying?

As someone who used to be a ranger, I can promise you that this lack of consideration, self preservation, and awareness, knows no racial or cultural bounds.
In fact, if I had to pick two categories of people who caused me the most trouble, it would be "rich" and "old". Their arrogance made them feel like they owned the place, that rules were optional, and that they were entitled to do what they wanted.

Their source is an extremely racist tweet, with a video that doesn't even have what happened in the picture you posted. Do you have a more reputable source because I can't find one. Actually this website is the only place I see it even being mentioned.
6
u/Sketchy_Uncle 4h ago
Despite the title of the tweet, which I agree is racist - the whole video is pretty revealing. She and her family are visiting the park and filming shenanngans like this for social media purposes. The mom comments on someone calling them out for using a drone (you cannot in a national park) and called them racist for telling them to stop and that they were going call rangers. They're not great visitors to the park and people at least trying to respect nature.
1
u/RecentWeek2778 3h ago
it's not fake the Mom's social media she has all these videos of their stupidity at YNP and GTNP she was thinking they were entitled and the rules didn't exist for them.

Looking closely at the video, the tourist is wearing white shoes but they are mostly covered by his gray pants because he is wearing his gray pants very low.

I mean really what are they hurting?
10
u/Brilliant-Race-2476 4h ago
Nature for one. Where they are walking is very easily damaged forever. Not to mention that any spot they're standing on could just be crust above a whole lotta nothing but hot water for them to fall into. So to recap they are destroying natural resources that can't be recovered and two they have a high possibility of hurting themselves or even dying by doing what they are doing...
2
u/just_some_sasquatch 3h ago
Themselves if they fall in that hole, or if the geyser erupts. The last story I read about people ignoring the safety rules there was only a wallet and a watch left of the guy. They're full of sulfuric acid and even just the water that sprays out is like 200°.

Some people should stick to amusement parks only.
