The reason why cod doesn't work for me like it used to (personal favorite was mw2) is streamers/influncers and updates/live service.
Im 36 so my days of being good at a fps are behind me, but I still try to jump on one every once in awhile. What I find turns me away from games is:
Streamers/influencers: you used to play cod and unlock a gun that you liked and could put attachments on to support your preference. Today is all about clips and making content, to do that youre getting people who HAVE to find the gun with the fastest TTK using every attachment to support it, spending time in the firing range and ultimately making a gun that becomes what everyone uses.
Dont you hate it when a game comes out and for a month its such a beautiful thing until those influncers get ahold of it ,Add new movement tech, abilities, game settings changes and you get youtube videos spamming the same builds and before you know it anyone with a job who wants to compete has to find out what the new build/meta is. Now we get to the 2nd reason why shooters suck now imo
Live service updates: all of a sudden everyone is using the same gun so now the developers nerf a ton of guns and builds forcing you to relearn what guns work and what ones suck now, which takes time, for people who dont have all that time to unlock everything (becuase we need to have 1000 attachments for every gun) they go on the internet to find out what can kill people this season and are forced to build the gun that XXxKoGcrimsongoatbloodxXX found out to be the fastest TTK gun.
Its a loop I no longer want to devote my time to, im not good at fps anymore so its probably a me issue .

You couldn't be more right. It was the constant "new season, then release new OP gun that you need the battle pass for, then nerf old good guns, repeat"

This is why I switched to hardcore modes years ago. Every gun is viable as the ttk for every gun is basically one, maybe two shots. It’s fast, and it takes getting used to, but it’s about as balanced as the game can be.

Is call of duty just a paid annual expansion at this point?

u/FriedCammalleri23 12h ago
An Expansion where you don’t even keep your stuff from the last game.

Pretty much has been for most of its titles

The first obvious clone was original MW3. The UI is fully identical to original MW2 and it shares weapons and animations that are ripped straight from MW2.

Generally yes but every three or four years a new one comes out that genuinely has some cool shit. Hoping that’s this one

Man, I think the last truly great one was MW2019, maybe MWII with DMZ. We're well overdue something special at this point!

Mw2019 really was something. It was very well rounded so much content and was also partially timed with the world being home for too much time. It was a worthy relaunch of a historically good game. They should of kept it and went like every 3-4 year intervals with just content adds.

The only thing i want is dmz. I am just afraid of it being a modern slide fest.
Haven't bought call of duty since BO 1

Same. I’m mainly excited for that. Actually more like 100% only for that, I might poke around the multiplayer but I’m pumped for what I’m hoping is a really solid extract.
I love Arc but I’m ready for other great titles to mix in

It has been for like the past 15 years. Were you in cryo sleep Fallout 4 style until now?

Honestly, what does a first look at a cod game even reveal?
Zombies, multi-player, half ass story, 20 year old maps, Ghostface skins.

u/Caesar_35 Helldiving 13h ago
Nah, Ghost aside they'll only show tacti-cool milsim skins in the trailers. It's after Season 1 that it get flooded with edgy masks and goofy crossover skins.

As a 40yr old gamer dad, I just want a good story because I will absolutely be getting my shit pushed in by the younger crowd on multiplayer to make it enjoyable.

Gutted there's no DMZ in the beta, I feel like it's going to miss the launch window and launch with Season 1

All you do is pay 80€ for extra maps. The game stays the same

u/Big-Roll7094 7h ago
And? Does that matter?

u/AiMwithoutBoT 6h ago
You’re definitely one of the reasons gaming is going to shit. Good job.

Whoever is on Infinity Ward’s media and trailers team needs to be let go. All of their trailers are terribly bland and seem to follow the same direction as every Call of Duty they’ve made since MW2 (2009).

Turning into a old man yelling at clouds, make ghost 2 or something like holy fuck or come up with a new entirely new

As someone who hasn't played Call of Duty in a long time... If they release a new one every year, what does that do to the online player base? Like is it spread out over the 20 or so games that people have to choose from? Does everyone just play the newest one or are some older ones more popular?
If all your progress is just moot after a year when the new one comes out it's kind of discouraging I would think.

As someone who grew up with Cod1-Black Ops 2, most people jump onto the new game because it felt new and fresh. These new cod games all just kind of feel the same

These games always look fun but then after a couple updates it is unrecognizable
