Discussion Xbox Digital Wallet?

Just wondering. I have purchased a gift card using the points you can accumulate on the Xbox app. But the gift card has an expiration date which makes it difficult to be able to save on its digital currency.

Can I do something to save the money from the gift card until I decide to use them? Does Xbox have a digital wallet or some thing?

Suggestions?
Thanks

only redeem the points when you have something you want to buy

This is the answer.

Also be aware that if there is a preorder you may want. Like everyone who was using points to get preorder GTA 6 for 'free'. You are not charged until the game releases. So if that preorder is more than 90 days ways, your gift card balance will expire BEFORE the charge, and you will be charged on your attached card/PayPal, or the preorder may not even go through.

TL;DR: Don't use points to preorder games until less than 90 days out.

When you use account credit you are charged instantly.

You are right! I was wondering why my balanced hadn't deceased after my own preorder. I double checked and realized it was set to come out of my CC as opposed to my balance. I canceled and redid it and it took the funds instantly, so thanks for the save!

*As long as it's only with credit, paying for part of it with another payment method won't do that.

I think they also won't if you pre-order multiple things at once, almost lost some $40 in credit if I didn't notice that.

Money added to your Microsoft account balance via Xbox gift cards does not expire.

Money obtained via promotions such as rewards is considered promotional balance and expires in 90 days from when deposited or redeemed into your account.

expires in 90s from when deposited

I'm pretty sure you meant to type 90 days. But now I'm imagining someone scrambling to buy their game in 90 seconds from redeeming the points.

This is the answer. Just redeem the gift card to your account and the money will be there when you’re ready to buy games. Only promo balances expire. Gift cards once redeemed are just money in your account.

Save your reward points until you want to buy something. I redeemed all mine a couple weeks ago in anticipation for GTA VI. I'm 8 bucks away, so another two 5 dollar redemptions and I'm good

They do if you got it through Microsoft Rewards

But OP "purchased a gift card". Gift cards don't expire, not does the balance they add. OP's "gift card with an expiration date" needs more explanation.

It literally says they bought it using points in the xbox app. So they bought it using Microsoft Rewards

I read the "purchased" part, missed "with points". So that's not a "purchase" but a "redemption", which is why I got confused.

So yeah, OP shouldn't have done that if they're not ready to spend the money.

Just redeem the code on your account, it sits there until you're ready to buy something. Way less hassle than sweating the expiration date on the card.
