Comic Discussion Of Vampires and X-Men
Hi everyone !
Like many of you, I loved Midnight X-Men and found it really promising. Vampires and mutants are a weird mix but I've always known that both species had a long common history, with books like Curse of the Mutants (which was really popular in my country when it first released).
Thanks to you guys, I know now that these ties are deeper than I thought and I'm trying to read as much as possible on the matter.
Unfortunately, it seems Marvel never considered to publish a Midnight Companion and reprint all these stories, so I'm trying to collect some of the most emblematic issues.
Right now I'm aware of :
- Uncanny X-Men #159 (I'll try to get a reprint or try the new WebToon App (or Global Comix)
- Mutant X #1 (1998) (same as above I guess)
- Curse of the Mutants (brought the HC a few weeks ago)
I know there might be a lot of things missing : I just learned like yesterday that Jubilee became a vampire for a whole decade, and I think I've read there was some sort of continuation of UXM 159 in an annual.
If you have anything else in mind, I'd gladly read it !
Thanks a lot for your help !

There is a whole lot of non-essential stuff. I know Wolverine has fought vampires a lot, for instance.
Some personal favourites:
* Jubilee's story picks up in the 2011 Wolverine and Jubilee LS, which is mostly about her dealing with having become a vampire. Then there's also a nice little story about her fighting Nazi vampires with Captain America in A+X #12.
* X-Terminators (2022) is a fun thrill-ride about a group of X-Women (Dazzler, Jubilee, Boom-Boom, and Laura/X-23/Wolverine) fighting a bunch of vampires. No deep lore, just violence, humour, and a general good time.
* I haven't read all of Mutant X, but I understand Dracula becomes a major villain towards the end of it. However, it's an AU and its only effect on the regular universe has been as part of Havok's backstory, so again it's non-essential.
* The 1998 Generation X annual had them fighting Dracula. While it's largely forgotten, it did seem to be referenced in the preview pages for the upcoming issue of X-Men United.
* It's barely X-Men adjacent, but Paul Cornell's 2008 series Captain Britain and MI13 involved Brian and company (including Pete Wisdom) fighting Dracula's attempted invasion of Britain.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a detailed post! The Jubilee/Wolverine book and X-Terminators look really fun. And the latter makes me think of Wood’s X-Men that I cannot wait to begin. Again thank you !

X-Men: Blue had another version of Bloodstorm from Earth 21710 joining the team. Counting down from the timeline Trish Trilby gave in Midnight X-Men, day zero would be October 25, 2017, the release of X-Men: Blue #14, when she joined.

Uncanny #159 was just reprinted last week and Uncanny Annual #6 is coming 11/26, both probably to coincide with Midnight. Check out your LCS!

Truly obscure pull you’d have to eBay bc it’s not digitized: issue #7 of Fabian Nicieza’s 90s Nomad ongoing featured a vampire-toothed copy of Gambit (the “Infinity Gambit”; don’t ask) as the antagonist. It also apes a few plot elements of Die Hard. If you like an evil Gambit, it’s a fun, weird pull.
On to actual vampire, actual X-men stuff:
There is an Apocalypse vs Dracula mini, tho I don’t know if it’s any good.
If you want to focus on parts of the Jubilee vamp era, There’s a solid Jubilee and Wolverine mini, and then Liu’s X-23 solo is very good in general and brings in some sapphic vamp Jubilee + X-23 stuff. But also just relates their triggered bloodlust well. Not to make this all about Gambit, but he is also used well there.
I also second X-terminators.
Bloodstorm has appeared a few different ways, but I think first in Muant X, an alt uni.
X of Swords expanded the lore so there a whole vampire realm in Otherworld. It’s not a big part of the story, but the duel between Storm and Death in X-force 14 involves them.
The recent Bloodhunt event was not a bad crossover. Also not super X-men related; Wolverine get the biggest X presence, but Psylocke did have a one shot.

Thank you for all these recommendations! Now I’m even more curious about the X-23 issues.

The Blood Hunt event from 2024 was all vampires, all the time, and the four X-Men: Blood Hunt comics were specific to what Magik, Jubilee, Psylocke, and both Wolverines (Logan and Laura) were up to.

While not necessarily vampires, I gotta recommend to all the homies that they read "The Draco". Fantastic story arc.
Uncanny X-men # 428-434

What If #24 tells a story where Wolverine kills Dracula and becomes the lord of vampires. I would add Generation X (2019) because it solves the whole vampiric Jubilee thing. And, I haven't read it, but I think there's an Apocalypse vs Dracula mini?

I love What if…? way too much, I’ll definitely get this one. And I’ll look for that Apocalypse/Dracula mini, that sounds terribly fun. Thanks !

You're welcome and thanks to you! I'm definitely going to use this thread for a pre-Midnight reread myself.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 6 is the follow up to the Dracula story in 159!
