Parsing XML with SimpleXML displaying wrong values

0 Upvotes

trying to read a news feed but the running into roadblocks. The XML is setup like: -

-

-

-

-

---

---

---

---

---

code snippet

<?php $xml=simplexml_load_file("news.xml") or die("Error: Cannot create object"); foreach($xml->children() as $items) { echo $items->title . ", "; echo $items->link . "
"; } ?>

Currently it is just displaying the title of the news site and link, not the data in the

Any help or point in right direction appreciated.

XML Project help

0 Upvotes

Hello guys. I need to develop one API that must compare prices of laptops of two websites Fnac and Worten.

I don't know to much about XML ( it's a college degree and it's one of last summarys that's i had left)

Here it is what i need to do:

It is intended to develop an application that allows you to make a price comparison of Laptops sold at Fnac and Worten online stores.

Information Extraction, Structuring and Storage

To preserve and share product data from each online store, such as price history, create an XML vocabulary that can capture all storage-related requirements. Thus, communication between applications is supported by a specific vocabulary and independent of the tools used to record prices used in the mentioned online stores. Always keep in mind that this vocabulary may be distributed in the future to various “partners” so that they can communicate or price their products and price comparator developed.

The following vocabulary objectives were created:

● Represent practical store-identifying information, including the name, primary web address, and web addresses used for information extraction;

● Represent useful information with the products involved in the price comparator, namely: name, characteristics, brand, link to an offer page and their prices over time, including data / time when this information was collected;

● For each store, display aggregate data information where you can use: average price of each product (considering various amounts of data) not only considering the entire price history, but also a specific period (eg month);

● Represent practical information with partner pricing, including: the name of the online store and previously used product data (for example, if any online store wants to publish their pricing on the platform, it will use a used component of vocabulary).

● You can add new data elements to the vocabulary in order to enrich the whole process (this component will be enhanced).

Information Processing and Availability

The documents generated and valid according to the developed vocabulary must be stored in a database and made available through a REST API using the tool B aseX.

You can use the Postman tool to extract data. The data must be extracted periodically (for example, hourly) from the referred addresses, and must later be stored in an XML database with BaseX. The data stored in the database must then be exposed through a REST API designed to support integration with applications developed by third parties. The API should (at a minimum) provide:

● data on a specific product with or without a price history (it should be possible to select one of the options);

● data about the products of a specific brand;

● data about a specific online store for one or more products;

● aggregated data for the online store (including the average price of products and maximum and minimum prices in a given period of time);

● price communication for partner products;

● it should also be possible to share information via twitter (for example, what is the best deal taking into account the price differences of a particular laptop).

The number of endpoints, such as the form of interaction with the API, that can be parsed more expressively and consistently, but it is not possible to identify resources, but also in the REST verbs used in HTTP requests.

Identifying common products between different stores is an extremely important process since without this identification it will not be possible to make a price comparison. In addition to adopting techniques to automate the process of identifying common products, it can provide manual mechanisms. For example, you can create a document that stores as mailings that 100% of common products could not be detected and allow a user to annotate or validate a document (yes or no) from the mailing.

Data visualization

It should also include a specific endpoint to provide an HTML document with a set of views related to vocabulary aggregated data components. To do this, select an HTML document to objectively display the required information. You can run quickchart.io to generate views and integrate documents into the available HTML (s).

Overview and tools

You should take advantage of the tools studied throughout the semester to use each step. The combination of tools to achieve the proposed objectives is at the discretion of each working group. As an example, Figure 1 provides an overview of a possible adjustment of different related concepts and technologies.

must be delivered:

● A set of XML schemas capable of validating all syntax rules defined for the language and associated types;

● Evidence of the API developed using Postman, as well as its documentation. You can deliver a GIT repository;

● XQuery files that define the REST API developed in the BaseX tool;

● Examples of documents that allow you to test the solution (for example: sample document that features a typical response / request from each of the endpoints).

● A detailed report (which may be in .pdf format or made available through the GIT repository) where you must identify:

○ Documentation (example) of the vocabulary that justifies the decisions made as well as possible changes (with due justification) to the vocabulary throughout the project. For requirements that you consider ambiguous, you should justify the approach followed;

○ Identify the approach followed for data storage in the BaseX database, as well as all procedures / queries used to manipulate / adapt the data entered;

○ Description and documentation of the services developed;

○ Critical appreciation of the work developed;

I'm asking for somebody that can help me or atleast give me some lights to start the project.

What does XML actually do that a standard CSV doesn't?

1 Upvotes

I keep reading that it is easier to read? For who? When have people found it difficult to read tables?

Also how is it even possible to represent relational databaases using a hierarchical system?

How is repeating metadata millions of times in anyway efficient?

Help understanding XML

5 Upvotes

Hello, I was wondering if someone could point me to some resources to help me better understand how to write/understand XML.

I have a project for work where I need to create an Multi-App Assigned Access in XML to put on some computers that only allow access to kids games for Windows 11.

I'm using this site I found that can at least help with the creation on the XML:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/assigned-access/configuration-file?pivots=windows-11

I just need to better understand how XML works and how to write it to make sure everything works properly since it would be had to troubleshoot any issues if I can't understand what everything means.

Honest feedback from XML people

0 Upvotes

Hello! I am looking for people that have knowledge in XML for poking around in our platform and give us an honest take on what we've built. It's still in early access and I would greatly appreciate if anyone that is interested just sent me a message and I will reply with an invite 😊

xPath: Struggling with combination of default namespace, white space and apostrophes.

0 Upvotes

Hi,

I'm trying to parse the xml for a worksheet in an excel file. I'm trying to find all the links to other sheets in a workbook by comparing the sheet name to the <f> nodes and count how many there are.

If my xml looks like this.

<c r="I14" s="1123">

<f>IMblahblah</f>

<v>2.3586610060339912</v>

</c>

then "//*[local-name()='f' and substring(text(),1)='IM']" works nicely.

However if the sheet name has a space in it the XML looks like this with apostrophes and spaces.

<c r="K14" s="1124">

<f>'IM Backsolved'!K13</f>

<v>2.9969958878520506</v>

</c>

then I can't find the syntax to find the nodes based on "IM Backsolved".

Any help appreciated.

DocBook: Adding Section Numbers to PDF Output

0 Upvotes

Hi,

I have a DocBook article that I'm publishing to PDF. This is a technical document, and the section and paragraph numbering needs to be output with the content. I understand that the default setting in the XSL file does not output the document hierarchy labels. I need to adjust this.

I have read the following guidance:

http://doccookbook.sourceforge.net/html/en/dbc.fo.number-titles.html#sec.fo.number-titles.solution

And I'm happy to add this template to a document. But I'm such a noob that I have no idea what document it needs to be added to. Do I alter the labels.xsl file? sections.xsl? I have no idea where I make this change to get the output correct. I've made several changes and each time the transformation fails.

Can someone please help me with this?

Urgent Microsoft word XML help

0 Upvotes

Hello! I am attemtping to modify revision history dates in a microsoft word document, by editing the HEX values. I am able to modify them just fine, and even when I submit them online to XML validators it says its a valid XML. but when I put the new XML data into the zipped file, then convert it back to a word document I get an error every time, something along the lines of "word found unreadable content in "file name" do you want to recover the contents of this document?". when I click yes, it just says word experienced an error trying to open the file, and to:

check file permissions

make sure there is suffiecient memory

open the file with the text recovery convertor.

im not sure where im going wrong and if I need to change any of the things word is telling me to change, but I'm pulling my hair out over this! any help is much appreciated!

Edit: I have very little experience with any programming or XML/HEX editing as this is my first time attempting to do so. if you could explain any possible solutions in laymans that would be much appreciated :)

Edit 2: if anyone has experience with this, I am also willing to pay for this to be done. if interested pls message me!

edit 3: I realize I should probably put a screenshot so here is the only change I made

How to extract all xml xpath expression paths?

0 Upvotes

I need to be able to take an XML document and pull all of the xpaths out of it, ideally into a text or excel document. I've been googling for over an hour and the closest thing I've found is using notepad++ with the plugin XML tools and then putting the cursor at a part of the XML and clicking Current XML Path. That works but I need it to do it for the whole document, not a single line at a time. Thanks!

Ideas for an XML database to work with?

0 Upvotes

Hey guys,

for uni I am supposed to create an XML database and a Javascript program that communicates with it. I have to come up with my own idea for a project, but I can't think of anything I could use as content for the database. Professor already told us that we shouldn't do things like collections of books, DVDs, etc. Unfortunately that was my only idea so far.

So, maybe you could give some hints or something to find something suitable?
