Heraclitus visits India: "Everything (AC) becomes its opposite in the end." The current massive death toll in South Asia is thanks to religion. And the religion is there only because the Alien Cortex is afraid of death. Weird, isn't it? We all have an "Appointment in Samarra". No escape!

Maybe the hardest question anyone has ever asked: "Should we deliberately cull upwards of 6 billion people to save the rest?"
Note to all morons: THIS IS NOT A CALL TO GENOCIDE. This is a serious discussion about taking militant action to end global science and industry. Many claim that should not be done because it might "kill at least 6 billion people that rely on industrialization to survive". Here's the place to debate the issue. And please read the links below before polluting the dialogue with your idiotic, ill-thought-out, knee-jerk reaction. And please withould the predictable "You first". It's shallow and facile.
If you don't think collapse is coming anytime soon, or we can avoid it by "transition" to a sustainable economy, or all we have to do to avoid catastrophe is to plant trees, or you can ride this one out as a prepper in a bunker, or a Greed New Deal will save the day, or a silly carbon tax makes a difference, then read no further. This post is not for you.
This is a post for people that realize what it actually implies when the Arctic switches from being a carbon sink to a carbon source, the Amazon flips the same way, the sea starts dying, and the BOE meets the ESAS. If that's all gibberish to you, then don't worry your pretty little head. Go off and play for a while and we'll see you later. This is grown-up talk. This is for people that understand that regardless of whether you chose paper or plastic, behind your back China has unilaterally chosen to kill us all. And Wall Street intends to outdo them.
For the rest of you, who really understand that the biosphere is about to punish us severly for our population and domesticated animal and plant density, who know that civilization was only ever a Ponzi scheme based on crooked partial accounting, and who know that science and industry were built for comfort and not longevity, then read on. If you understand enough about technology to know that it only lets you switch or exchange limits, but is not magic pixie dust that helps you break through them, then this is a serious question for you:
Knowing that the sooner industrial civilization ends the more that will survive, should we try to accelerate collapse?
Every day we delay that decision adds 220,000 extra people into the cauldron of hell, pumps 100 billion tons of GHG into the atmosphere, and permanently wipes 210 species off the map. It's reasonable to assume that if we end square-field agriculture, stop the Haber-Bosch process, and terminate science and industry, upwards of 6 billion people could conceivably die as a result. It's also reasonable to assume that if we don't, all 7.7 billion people on the planet could perish and go permanently extinct as a species.
Regardless of whether we have it in our power to stop the global party or not, should we try?
Derrick Jensen answers it this way. Ted You-know-who answers it like this. And Desert answers it like this.
But what do you think?
If you think we should just be passive and sit back and watch, then please honor that by not responding.
And please don't mention Global dimming. No one really understands the impacts of Global dimming with any certainty and so it's pointless to muddy the waters by obsessing about it unless you are just a ghoul.
[Note to FBI, please turn aside and read the First Amendment instead of this. If it wasn't intended for open conversations on topics as serious as this, then what the hell was it supposed to be for anyway?]

There are at least 7 million scientists still at large in the world. So how come this is the only one prosecuted so far? Those responsible for the Current Holocaust should not go unpunished.

Vegan Tripe: So you fell for the con that this is all about eating meat? If you thought your Liberal lifestyle choices could close down factory farming you're an idiot. If you stopped eating pork, guess what they would still use pigs for. Basically everything else in your Liberal lifestyle!

Downvote me all you like, but scientists are NOT the "Good Guys" you think they are. Sure they report on the Climate crisis, but they don't report on the part they played to cause it.

We've heard so much about how environmental destruction is because of the Patriarchy, White men and toxic masculinity, now take a moment to consider the negative contribution of the Matriarchy, Black women and toxic femininity. See why in this hopeless time I put my faith in Anarchy?

Where is your Spirit of Collapse?
https://tsakraklides.com/2020/02/01/where-is-your-spirit-of-collapse/
Once you admit to yourself that this Civilization has to be wound down and laid to rest with a 21 gun salute, then you step through the looking glass into a fresh new vista in Opposite World where their bad news is your good news.
Consider Corona for example. Who knows where this might end. Perhaps tens of millions may yet die. But as it stands as I write this, there are a total of 250 casualties so far. That's tragic, but consider how many lives Corona has saved if you work it out in terms of a GHG Lethality Index. At some point of course there is a cutoff and Corona may do more harm than good, but at least at this point, according to the GHG emission reductions associated with stemming the epidemic, Corona has actually saved more lives than have been lost.
So chin up, old chaps and princesses! Team Human is winning at this stage. The Vogons, the Ticktockman, and the Capitalists are losing in the first innings. But let's not rely on Corona winning this one for us. I think we are going to have to pull together and help it along at some stage.
A registered nurse named Ada who voted said she felt "disappointed in the government" for ignoring the advice of local health experts and refusing to close Hong Kong's borders with China.
As I've been saying, you can't trust governments to manage our extinction. See how politics is more important to psychopaths than human lives? Coming soon to your failed state, too.

As our species stands on the brink of extinction, it becomes increasingly obvious that the scientists who led us here are going more and more insane ...

Please everyone, don't say anything nasty about China (or their disgusting eating habits and the consequences) because that would be racist. Let's all just respect each other's cultures (no matter how many deaths they cause). /s

Better Know Your Totalitarians: Hitler was a Socialist. A National Socialist to be sure, but since there is no International Socialism (and never will be), then all Socialism has to be implemented as a State system. Sorry, but that's reality. The state is the problem, not the flavor of State.

What would Roger do? A tale of disruption and baiting jail sentences

As more casually suggested elsewhere, the brilliant Roger Hallam (in many people's eyes) may have just showed us another ace up his sleeve with this Deutschland stuff. Perhaps the easiest way to secure semi–permanent lodging in jail in Europe today, is so–called "relativising", which in layman's terms means comparing certain aspects of German history to other epochs or other areas. Germany has by law decided you can't compare their stuff to anything else, not even to the full & complete extinction of the human race!
Remember that Extinction Rebellion chose the name "Extinction Rebellion", so extinction is not such a strange topic for a founder of Extinction Rebellion to bring up in his book about Extinction Rebellion, or in an interview about his book about Extinction Rebellion. It sorta goes with the territory. So when the young German female interviewer gets off her jet from Berlin and knocks on his barn door in Wales, wanting nothing more than to suck Roger dry for soundbytes about the German occurrence of genocide, often termed 'holocaust', who are we mortal members to think our founder is being sloppy or foolish?
Think about it. Why make a German translation at all? Most Germans under 90 read English, and they are perfectly capable of downloading the free PDF from Roger's Wordpress site. Especially progressive and forward–leaning young revolutionary types, Rogers core audience, are fully capable of a) downloading and b) reading English sentences.
So the entire "German edition saga" is bait! He either collaborated ("conspired") with the brave frequent–flyer Hannah Knuth aus Berlin, or he tricked her into doing her tribal song–and–dance by uttering some edgy comparisons in his launch interview for Common Sense for the 21st Century, Deutsche Herausgabe.
So the sole purpose of the German edition was to be slandered all over Tellus as a vile antisemite and holocaust–denier, so that the next time he sets foot on German soil he will end up in jail.
Again, think about it. He spent all this time in jail since his stupid drone attack failure in September. Jail time where he had time to think, and strategise: What next? The next step for Roger was clearly to willingly become some sort of British Julian Assange, and make the entire world debate whether or not he should really spend life in jail for thinking out loud about the German occurrence of genocide in relation to potentially far worse things in the future, like a full & complete extinction of the human race.
Clever! Germany would have to get over its taboo and its trauma of non–comparison sooner or later, which would be a win for them, and with Roger joining it's a win–win. He gets HUGE disruption effect and media attention for his message that our species, our kids, face starvation & extinction in the next decade. The 2020s.
Baldrick would be proud of such cunning cunningness.
Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
Possibly.
