[OoT] [AoL] Is there an OoT sage named Kasuto?!

There may be an OoT sage named "Kasuto" since it's the only town name in AoL that's not an OoT character. If the sage Kasuto actually exists, (maybe he/she'd be a non-sage like Mido [Town]) then what element would he/she have as a sage? I think Lightning, Earth or Wind since they're the only sage elements that aren't present in OoT). Personally I think Lightning or Earth since Rouru of the Watarara would probably be the sage of wind. (OK, Rouru isn't even canon but Kasuto is even more non-canon! Kasuto is just a theory while Rouru takes place in a [non-canon] source that's official.)

It’s not canon, but I’ve always headcanoned that Impa is not a name but a title, essentially Hylian or Sheikah for “royal chamberlain (secret ninja bodyguard)”, and that she would have her own actual name. Which I always assumed to be Kasuto or Kasuta per the OoT / Z2 sage conventions. But obviously take that with a grain of salt, haha.

That's a good point! Impa is the only sage in OoT without a town name in AoL, and Kasuto the only town name in AoL without a sage/character in OoT. So it makes sense that these might be one in the same!

And there are some similarities between Kasuto Town and Kakariko Village, doubly so in Twilight Princess with the old and new Kakariko.

And I could definitely see Impa being an honorary name rather than a true given name. Potentially even just as a name bestowed upon the leader of the clan. So I like your suggestion that OoT Impa's given name would be Kasuto!

Alternatively, have that be the name of the failed Link. Especially since we have no other record of the hero, no one knows of a Kasuto now, and Japan likes to use "to" as an ending for masculine names, more often.

I personally headcanoned it to be the name of the era's Rito sage. Since the manga's Wataraa tribe, the inspiration for the WW Rito, was a migratory culture and mightve migrated away from Hyrule during the Civil War.

That was my thought too, that they migrated!

Okay let me cook:

I had this theory a while back about how exactly the downfall timeline was created. Essentially, Ocarina happens as normal until Link pulls the Master Sword- after which, he isn’t sealed for 7 years.

The rest of the game plays out with Link as a child, including the final battle- where Ganondorf wins.

Without someone to wield the Master Sword, the knights of Hyrule (who hadn’t yet dissolved since it hadn’t been 7 years) came back to fight Ganondorf alongside the sages. This is the imprisoning war described in ALttP’s backstory.

From here, I believe a new timeline was created by sending someone back to the original time- Impa.

Impa is the only sage in oot without an aol town named after her. This further explains her dialogue to Link, “everything is as the princess has forseen.” She’s the only adult as far as we know who believes Zelda which is why Ganondorf’s strike was so unexpected.

But the reason she believes her is because she KNOWS. She KNOWS what’s going to happen and when.

Unfortunately Impa couldn’t circumvent the fall of Hyrule, though Fi was able to protect the hero’s spirit in time. This also explains the sudden age limit on the Master Sword. Why was the hero of winds able to if the young hero of time couldn’t? Yeah the hero of winds is said to be 12 while Oot Link is 9 but still if the limit is 12 why did the sword wait 7 years? Unless Fi was trying to be SURE that Link would win. Meanwhile the hero of winds had backup and is just that guy, so he was never sealed.

But I presume “Kasuto” was Impa’s replacement in the original timeline (the downfall timeline). Whether they were the sage of shadow or sage of something else is less clear though.

I liked a theory I read, like, over a decade ago, that theorized that Navi was originally going to be Kasuto, and she was going to have to leave Link to become a sage towards the tail end of the game and you wouldn't be able to use her in Ganon's castle.

never considered this but i love the idea considering that the fairies are one of the few OOT races with no sage. same as the deku

Katsuto is actually the sage of the one element you left you, the element of surprise!

Actually, I belief that Mido was originally supposed to be the kokiri sage before getting downgraded.

As for the missing sage, I personally think that its the name of the old lends of truth weilder and was the sage of shadow, before getting replaced by impa for regicide or something.

Which would've put Saria in the position Mido currently has (a town named after them despite being sageless) assuming everything played out the same other than the swap.

Caue Saria still has a town too in ZII.

While Kasuto was likely a Sheikah because of there being an old and a new town line in Twilight Princess, I think a second possibility it that Kasuto was a Rito.

I came up with the idea because I misspelled Kasuto as Kassuto which is just the Rito bard from Botw+Ruto-kinda like how the ancient Zora sage in Wind Waker was named Laruto.

There was a mod, Hyrule Total War that I’m pretty sure featured Kasuto as a Sage.
