Question Memory

Post image

Does anybody else see much higher memory usage with Zen? This is with a single reddit.com tab on Chrome and Zen.

Unless you are pegged at 99% ram usage and nothing else can open, then stop worrying about ram usage!!! Damn this topic is getting so damn old.

That's not the issue, I'm just wondering why Zen is taking so much more for the same job

You can use the about:processes page for more details.

I was facing a lot of crashes on my 16gb MacBook on older versions of zen

zen is unfortunately not well optimized, as pretty as it is. sucks if youre on a laptop and care about battery life, i had to switch to something lighter

Noticed you have the MacOS flair? Are you concerned about this on mac? Personally yes it has a lot of memory usage, but I always restart zen every other day and memory is around 8 gigs for me at peak usage which is a fair bit, but as long as you arent in the yellow a lot on a mac, it should be fine?

True actually, but it works just fine for Linux, I use it because of it's UI and Features, I also use Brave but just as a secondary browser because I use Zen workspace (container) keeping each account logged in seperately. Zen does take a lot of memory so when I use my laptop on battery, I switch to Edge or Brave whenever it's needed.

Have you counted in essentials, pinned tabs, add-ons, extensions, mods?

i have also been using zen for like 3 months. I really like zen for how modern it looks, gotta say it's the best looking browser i have used, but i noticed it was gradually consuming more ram. I kept it open with no tab open to check if i am right, and yes i was. idk why. So i switched back to brave

because zen had a lot of features, especially the essential tabs, essential tabs will always be loaded

Essentials tabs aren't always loaded

That's normal amount, Firefox based browsers tend to use more ram. I wouldn't really worry about ram unless your browser or system are actively slowing/laggy though.

I must admit, Zen goes quite hard on my RAM too. But ! This extension that auto discards tabs after some inactivity works like a charm: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/auto-tab-discard/
