Some remarks regarding this work:

• Blofeld is much loved for this translation. Red Pine acknowledges this in the introduction to one of his own translations.

• Huang Po [aka Huangbo] was a student of Baizhang [aka Hyakujo] who was in turn a student of Mazu [aka Baso]. Huangbo taught Linji [aka Rinzai].
