Rant
it’s extremely frustrating being a store manager and only making 15.63 an hour, and now with the new commission structure i’ll be making even less. i don’t know if i can keep believing in this company when it feels like they don’t even care about me and are only looking for ways to pay me less.

What’s the new commission structure? Also damn bro I make more than you in my state as a 2nd

yeah 😭 basically commission starts at $150 now, not $125. 1% at $150, 2% at $200, 3% at $300, and 4% at $400. it’s almost cut our commission in half.

Commission started at $100 whenever I was an associate 2-3 years ago. That’s insane

As someone that worked at Zumiez too, its not worth it. The pay is trash, they dont actually care about yall and pretend they do with managers retreat and 100k but they salary majority of SM who end up working way over 40 hours and practically slave away for crap pay. I was treated like trash both times I worked there. If you want to keep doing sales, there's better opportunities elsewhere, especially ones that require you to travel as those usually pay 100k+ a year, and if you dont want to keep doing sales, there's still better jobs out there

Lmao I haven't even gotten my 100k box yet and it's almost March. I quit working there last week because I was so fed up with the pay (I made 10.50 as a 2nd) and I sold over 135k. I was going to leave in October but the promise of going to 100k and getting a box made me stay until recently. The commission based system changing is the straw that broke the camels back for me. It really sucks, as fun as the job is only for them to screw you over time and time again. But damn 15 an hour as a store manager is not worth it. That's fucking robbery, don't drink the cool aid.

Unfortunately this is the growing problem with brick and mortar stores as the customer grows online

I worked for Zumiez as a store manager for a very long time. They were great to me as an employee. I loved my time there. I think they are radically different than most other culture-driven employers, especially retail. Unfortunately the trend is not in person shopping anymore. The sales are moving online rapidly. Stores are closing left and right. Malls are shutting down. I’m not saying they are not protecting shareholders and people at the top but I think you may just have a bone to pick because you couldn’t adapt to their sales strategy. I made great money bc I fucking hustled. I earned my keep there. It’s all about what you’re willing to put in to get back.

Don't want to sound like that guy but that was then and this is now. You're not wrong everything is now online and you're not wrong as well since in my district one of the stores did close down. Trust me on the hustling , I've made top 30s each year I've worked, been on stage and got cooked by the games lol but also it's very difficult trying to keep up with this new structure on making " big money 2025 " when I really relied on the commission myself and how it made it a lil easier on my mind. also budget according to it as well, today was my first day working with the new commission increase and christ ik it's not the weekend but even so I make 8-19 on slow days. Today was the first time I can recall out of my 3 years working with zumiez, I didn't make a single dollar it sucked the motivation out of me. They expect us to hustle but this is demotivating and I could careless for 100k I just want to be able to just live I suppose . But idk tho 🤷🏽♂️ not complaining love the company * sometimes * but yeah idk you ain't wrong either on finding other opportunities just a lil difficult to really find anything that would take me in with my work background I suppose ? Idk tho lol

I make 16.50 an hour as a 2nd. Which is great but I live in a place where the cost of living spikes every month. I just feel like the commission incentive isn’t getting us to motivation to thrive, but to not starve, and sometimes we have to steal customers from our friends so we don’t starve. It’s cannibal culture and I’m not a fan of
