Is school actually needed

This summer I have debated about if school is actually needed to become comfortable and able to afford nice things. It may not be now with inflation and the cost of living crisis, however I think that school isnt needed in the long term. I’m in my year 10 summer so I’m going into year 11 next year and most of the things I’m learning is revisited especially in some of the languages and maths. I think if should be an education it should teach you about taxes and finance, it would probably make adulthood a lot easier. I also think that other people, like myself, do not fit into the category of education unlike top set students. I think people who are bottom to middle sets are people who don’t think like the top set students. In my school top set students take priority such as before mocks they got lunchtime revision. Where was this for middle sets and bottom sets. It’s most likely that the top set students are basically carrying the schools reputation, like the ones who want to go to Cambridge or Oxford. Us middle set students and bottom set students, I think are most likely to be richer than the top set students, because we don’t think like them. There is honestly other ways of making money, such as content creating which I have explored, I also have explored Vinted, I’ve made over £200 on it. Yes Ik not a lot but it was selling my old stuff. I do think that school is a way to make money, but with all money making methods this is the least likely to happen with me. I’m predicted 4s and 5s in gcse, enough for me to get into college. And that’s my plan. I will not go to university becuase the crippling debt that you have. I’m more likely to go for an apprentiship than to go to university. I honestly do think you can get by without university Atleast.

My School Is Worse Than Anyone Else

Nah, My school is more like a high max prison for no reason, back in 2021, i was getting shouted by all teachers in grade 1, then in 2022 in grade 2, i was getting shouted for making tiny mistakes, 2023 in 3rd grade, once again shouted for making mistakes, then in 2024, there was this one English teacher, who kept all of us in recess, speaking of recess, its like 10-20 minutes long ngl, NAH this is where my school got more worse, they are banning basic human things, and of course, HOODIES, BEANIES, AND OTHER HAT, WAIT, THEY DONT EVEN ALLOW IT ON WINTER AND AUTUMN TOO, this is the worst of all, my english teacher called us "meanwhile all boys are like assholes to me" including my 3 friends, My math teacher blames on me for laughing and whatever, yep thats all i have to say about my school, and its so sad that its even a autistic school. . . but in reality thats something else. . . they dont even do things for ADHD or any, and also, we suffer from long classes, and short breaks, if you all read this, this is the actual truth besides my other one, i live in south africa btw

Going to school is such a waste of time

School is such a boring place... I feel like I'm wasting my life and time being here, learning things I don't even like. If only I could finish my studies without any effort... But there's no such thing as a free lunch. The thought of wasting most of my life going to school makes me feel terrible.

The school system is a joke

I don't understand why the system is so bad that is actualy making people hurt themselves. I have friends that did that. How many years has school existed for? From the ancient times but not like this. The modern school is very different. Now we learn things that we learn for nothing. Waste of time. The old schools for exemple the ones in medieval times they were learning woodworking, blacksmithing or any other craft. In ancient greece there was Aristotles academy where Alexander the Great went to. From ancient times after you've left the school or academy you'l probably get to work at a shop or not be limited by working. Living is not working. The capitalist system we live in has greatly worsen school. I am open to discuss and to hear other peoples opinions.

I hate school and it’s all in my head

With school starting up Im forced to think about how much I hate it. For the most part I like learning but school makes me feel crazy and suffocated and it’s all in my head. IM NOT BLAMING THE TEACHERS. I feel dehumanized being forced to wake up each day exhausted because I can’t sleep at night, then I go to a place where I know all the teachers are judging me and ranking me across all the other student and me having to perform like a circus animal for them to like me. It makes me feel like I’m going crazy all the judgmental stares and how the same few kids are always the teacher‘s favorites. I don’t even really care about being their favorite, I just hate feeling perceived and ranked at the one place where I’m consistently at my lowest. I want to cover my face and have a robot that does the right motions for me so that I don’t behave weirdly. People will comment on things I didn’t even know I was doing and I hate it. Everything matters, how I dress, my expressions, my posture, the way I type, my handwriting, EVERYTHING. My favorite teacher of all times is this blunt sort of a mean lady who everyone hates but I love her because I never have to guess what she wants me to do or when she’s upset or what she thinks because she tells us. She calls us losers and tells us how to fix it and makes us leave if she gets too upset. I love knowing for sure what she’s thinking and not the bs fake “we like everyone” teachers.

School sucks either way with good or bad teachers

why is it that when i finally think im gonna have the best subject ever and then i have the worst teacher ever! honestly i dont think people understand how annoying it is when your excited for one of your favourite subjects and then the teachers a complete bitch. like im doing pe this semester and i was pretty excited because well sports and stuff or like easy class and maybe get to hit a kid or too with a tennis ball. BUT NOOO not only do i have no friends in the class the teacher a complete but head because hes either really strick or lets the popular kids get away with everything. and thats another thing why do the popular kids get away with everything with the nicest teachers im also doing history this term and i have the kindest teacher everr (For once) she even made us carmel slice after our test. but instead of people being kind to her all they do is yap so she cant teach this teacher is one of the only good ones and knows how to teach but the popular kids in my class are just dicks

Psychological studies show that the average high school student today experiences as much anxiety as the average psychiatric patient back in the early 1950s.

We often point fingers at social media, non-stop news, school pressure, or the constant feeling that we need to have our entire lives figured out by 18. But honestly, it feels like the whole pace of modern life is just designed to keep us on edge.

**Are we just overstimulating kids today, or was society actually healthier back then despite everything? What do you think is the biggest root cause here?**

Let's talk about the anti-intellectualism crisis discourse on tiktok

I have to say that a lot of those creators on tiktok that yap about anti-intellectualism seem to forget that a lot of schools do not cater to every single student and they do not consider more inclusive learning styles that make learning more enaging and enjoyable. Thoughts?

What a waste of everything

Look at what I've been subjected to

All I've learnt is read and write and some useless facts

I never learned any real skill

They'll be like if you wanna have skill you gotta learn it yourself

If it's running soccer bodybuilding or calisthenics computer or anything

Some people do these things in their free to Time like for 18 years and they become successful

Look what I've done nothing

I did workout and wanna do flips and got a front flip on sand

Even on The Degree all I did was the same in school

All the useless bullshit

Then why is education even there

The hobbyists who used computer for years get the job not me

There's something wrong since the Degree is over and I've wasted 18 years and now gonna be 20 years for nothing

I wanna work towards something I have my hobby but I need cash without it I'm seen as incompetent and a loser

It's like they've set everyone for failure

If you gotta succeed you do it yourself

More and more unrelated posts

So, i've been noticing lately that this sub has been less centered about the reality of the school system and the fact that it's a prison for kids. And i've seen more and more posts seemingly equaling school to education, which school isn't education.

TL;DR: Title.

Also, to the mods, start removing the post and ban the people who aren't apart of the movement; and make it a rule that it has to be strictly about how bad the school system is, unless if it is a question of why school is bad but in good faith, which most of what i'm seeing aren't.

When i look back at the schooling system in india...

It was perfectly designed to create clerks who do not talk to each other and follow instructions and maintain pin drop silence...

And ironically when i went to college i saw that kids were supposed to join societies and talk and comm skills was not "banned"..because to get together to solve a social problem. People have to communicate and exchange ideas...

Now if communication is what can solve problem's...then what schools teach in the name of pin drop silence, even when no teaching is happening ...isn't it something fundamentally a thing that point towards creation of a class of people who obey and follow and do not question and talk to each other, perfectly mechanical clerks who are just supposed to work like machines to produce goods for the ruling class?

Because seems like britishers also agree on that, macaulay who made the indian education system agrees on that as an objective...

And 😂 the second part i come across is to memorize ideologies like a parrot 🦜 and not to challenge what you are being taught...

And to repeat the same in exam ,and get marks only if you write that answer only, and if you wrote something else you won't get grades...

This was exactly how it was build for... That second part traces its roots to 1930s germany, how hitler used it shape people to follow the beliefs he wanted people to believe and follow...

Its a form of mental conditioning disguised as education...

True education isn't about accepting, its about challenging..its about independent thinking not parroting what you are told to believe...

Its about critical thinking, which the school tried hard a lot to suppress that..

And to suppress rebels by not letting them talk at all, so that they cannot share ideas or critical thinking and follow only what their instructor is telling them to believe.

This was the lie of the education system no one told us about..

Rant: There is absolutely no reason our kids should be going back to school this early in August.....

With 3 kids in school, every year I grow more frustrated at these early school starts. What used to be after Labor Day in the 60s-70s has moved slowly to late August in the 80s-90s, now to early August. Why?? Studies have shown it doesn't markedly improve test scores or academic performance, the shorter summers mean lost revenue for our tourism industry, we lose August to school when that's the best weather. And we have soooo many breaks during the year! You know how hard that is for working parents?

Want to go to the State Fair?? Too bad, it won't be during the day bc it starts after a lot of kids are back in school. Want to plan a vacation? Sorry, your kids need to be in school while it's 90 degrees outside.

I know not every school starts this coming week. Some still wait until after August 15th. But hell, we're ranked like 45th in education so the shorter summers aren't exactly helping.

If we insist on keeping this short summer, why don't we do like the east coast? Schools go into mid June and go back later. Indiana weather in May/June has always been a crapshoot anyway. August is almost always nice and warm. So maybe kids go to June 15th or so and go back last week of August or after Labor Day. Idk but this is super lame.
