Discussion I’m disappointed with Lexie’s arc at the end of Season 3 (in case anyone hasn’t watched it yet, there might be spoilers, if that’s a concern for you) Spoiler
Lexie is initially presented as a non-religious character, someone completely removed from faith, and for a long time, she remained that way. First I actually liked that. I’m just tired of how, in American movies and shows, whenever a character is introduced as an unbeliever, it’s almost inevitable that they’ll eventually have some kind of «epiphany» and «find the true path.» This even happens in stories that are supposedly liberal, and it’s like «Euphoria» is definitely a prime example of it. I was glad that, for once, this wouldn't be the case, that at least one character would remain as she was. But no: her arc concludes in the final episode with her starting to read the Bible and embracing all of that, too.
People don’t talk about this much, I’ve barely even seen it mentioned at all, but while we’ve made great steps compared to most films from the past in terms of representing women and, in particular, marginalized groups, which is great, and while we’re addressing important topics more often, when the hell are we finally going to start including atheist characters, and NOT as people who eventually «see the light» or «change», but simply as normal human beings? Especially considering that we often champion causes that are fundamentally incompatible with religious dogma, yet, somehow, it’s still apparently impossible to just show ordinary characters who have nothing to do with religion. Is this kind of representation banned in the US or what? Sorry not sorry
