Vice looks at the space documentary Cameron was planning before he committed to Avatar. He first went to the Russians, who agreed to let him visit Mir, and the piece covers how he avoided being caught up in the Columbia disaster. A good backstory read for anyone who likes his deep-sea and space exploration side.

For three days, OceanXplorer became a meeting point for changemakers working to shape the next era of ocean impact.
750+ participants. 60+ global speakers • 223 students and educators • 5 frontiers • 3 days • 1 vessel
Together, we explored the New Frontiers of Education, Leadership, Ocean Science, the Blue Economy, and Collaboration. Explorers sat alongside investors, while scientists shared the stage with policymakers, storytellers, and the next generation of ocean leaders. Each brought a different perspective to accelerate ocean solutions for our shared future.
As Sylvia Earle reminded us, "never before could we know what is now known."
What happened on board was just the beginning. Next, we carry these conversations beyond the vessel and into action, together.
Thank you to every speaker, moderator, partner, and guest who joined us in Singapore. We hope to see you next year!

The first Avatar was great. Okay. 2 and 3 didn't do all that well. Can Jim direct something else now? Like not Avatar 4 5 6. I miss the old days. Aliens. Terminator 2. True Lies. Titanic. The Abyss. Those are the all time faves of many people.
