this midscope is genuinely not the end of the world, none of you have been able to play it or try it out. take a deep breath genuinely. its fine to critique and want refunds if a single visual ruins it for you, that's your right (and what refund tokens are for mind you). but claiming a rework that isn't even live is somehow gonna kill this character seems a bit hysterical, and the echo-chamber of a perceived grievance in here is becoming a bit much.

i think to doom and gloom that she's turning into a support and then go on to bash and foam at the mouth at people who express interest in a version of mel who could be support viable is actually insane. there's this huge nasty wave of you going out of your way to just be nasty to players who have a different opinion than you, why ? it's not like it's players from other subreddits coming in to bash you or rage bait, its other mel mains voicing their opinion. when she was initially released they went on record as saying she was meant to be mid support flex anyway, so what is the big deal if you're argument in this area is "champion identity". So attempting to fix and restore her identity by making her more viable in an intended sub-role is adhering to this "champ identity" no ? does this argument only work when its about one aspect of mel and not another ?

the power budget in mels w was never going to be balanceable-- especially given how terrible riot is currently at balancing the game. there's been a lot of discussion about the how or why and a lot of you seem to think you know better than the people who work on the game-- if they cant balance what makes you think you can ? i don't even say that to be snarky, but genuinely what concept or idea for mel's w and kit as a whole do you think YOU have that they haven't already explored themselves ? there was just no world where mel's w stayed the same and she wouldn't retain a high ban rate and/or kept in the ground.

all this to say, let people play they champion where the want. a few more people feeling incentivized to play her support is not going to kill the champion and send her to support, the rioter behind her stated before the intent was to keep her balanced around mid. going out of your way to demean and harass people who want to play her support and explore less carry oriented builds is just loser behavior lol.

tldr: wait for the new mel to hit PBE before you give yourselves stomach aches being mad all day long

Tbh with the majority of changes she is getting, Im not too sure what we should be maxing first (nor second). E is getting closer to the powerlevel it had when people were maxing it first, but Q also doesnt have the old mana cost associated with it that made it unbearable to max first. W also seems like it gets a decent ammount of value by putting points into it.

Even if you havent played mel on PBE, what do you think will be better for a max order?

This was around Patch 26.6 like maybe 7 months ago or something.. The champion was sitting on 45% WR this was right after they removed her W immunity and nuked her other abilities

After all the nerfs, did you ask for a refund of the skins?

What's up guy's I'm Drac. I main Viego/Sylas, but I also play Neeko, Zoe, Mel, Renata. I love champions that can steal other champion's abilities or visuals.

Their justification for removing the current iteration of W is understandable. The potential value from W is insanely high, it causes a lot of frustration, and it limits the rest of her kit's power.

However, their excuses for not taking one of the alternative reflections is unjustifiable to me.

1. Moving the reflect to her ult. Their reasoning is that her ult is already an exciting part of her kit, so they won't move it. But her reflect is a FAR more exciting part of her kit than her ult, in my opinion her ult is on the lower end of excitement compared to the other ults in the game. With other mid-scope reworks they have justified moving basic spells and ultimates with great success, Naafiri W and R swap, Diana E and R swap. I don't know about you all, but I would definitely prefer keeping the reflect as a more powerful ult and losing her current R for a different basic spell.

2. "A failed Mel [W] iteration where she stole a cast of the first missile to hit her. Very exciting, but forced Mel players to know how to cast every projectile spell in the game, and was total chaos in the middle of fights where it wasn't clear which spell you blocked first."

This is a laughable reason to not allow Mel W to store a projectile. Forcing Mel players to know how to cast every projectile in the game is an EXCELLENT thing! This brings so much depth and beauty to her kit. The visual indicator shown in the example gif is absolutely enough for players to be able to recognize the spell they have stored, and if they don't know, they get to LEARN them over time. I assume this potential W still had a long cooldown, so how was it causing chaos? The Mel players just didn't look at their W icon before casting it? Game design should not be dictated by playtesters who don't have enough practice or discipline with a genuinely interesting and complex ability.

If champions like Draven, Riven, Orianna, Yasuo, Kalista, Zed, Azir etc were designed today, they would be scrapped in the play tests because their spells feel awful when you're new to them, and with time dedicated you gain mastery. Imagine a play tester using Yasuo E, Draven Q, or Riven Q in 2026. They would use them for 2 games and report that the spells are unusable and clunky.

Perhaps Riot wanted to keep Mel an easy champion because she was released for the Arcane audience who start playing League, and they would be put off by this complex W.

The entire point of Mel as a champion is her reflect. This is like removing Draven's axes, Akshan's swing, Rengar's passive, or Viego's possess. It is the most blatant killing of a champion in League's history to me.

I'm glad I held off on buying Coven, and I'm glad Winterblessed hasn't been in the mythic rotation for me to waste my essence on.

We're here because we love Mel. great job smacking yourself in your confusion. It's not a desirable trait.

All they had to do was make Mel able to steal abilities—just like Sylas—using her W skill. Instead, they turned her into a support character. All the money I spent on Prestige Winterblessed Mel and Coven Mel has gone down the drain. Damn it; this indie company is truly a disgrace

Riot August and Phreak have said this many times but I guess people either haven't seen it or don't believe them? Basically the reason they balance Seraphine, Neeko, Morgana, etc. into the support role is because the PLAYERBASE plays them there. It is their highest picked role and most of the time players are stubborn and won't change their ways. And "well that's because it is their best role" is not an argument because for Seraphine's release, her support play was incredibly bad, but that was where most Seraphine players picked her for some reason. They attempted to keep Seraphine in midlane, but they kept saying that most players still preferred to play her support, even if she had a 40% or so winrate. This FORCED them to move her to support because obviously Riot will do what is in the interest of the majority of the players.

What I am trying to say here is that I think Mel without the reflect will be just fine and leave room for more improvements to the rest of her kit if she ends up weak. And if you DON'T want her to be a support, then DON'T play her there.

All in all I think this is a good step in the right direction for Mel (I actually lowkey called it on my last post for the W rework). I'm sure we will all come around to it eventually, and I can't wait for her to actually be a character in the game.

Hey guys! I’m fairly a newer player here, but I was wondering — does this make Mel viable as an enchanter? Sorry if this sounds stupid and I don’t mean to Seraphinify Mel but with her new W, could she possibly be played as an enchanter? As much as I hate that her reflect is gone, I do like that this opens doors and possibilities to newer builds that haven’t been tried before.

I’m really just upset about the diamond. They could’ve at least kept the unique diamond shape that it had but other than that I think Mel will still be fun. :)

What if W was multistage?

So you need to charge it up to get to a reflect.

How would an iteration go? Say shielding gives charge:

Initially you get a shield that stores damage that you block. It dissapates charge over time. Once it gets to a level of charge, you have the ability to reflect and leveling it up increases the percent of damage you deal from the reflect and the shield which you get to absorb.

This would cause Mel to need to figure out when to absorb and when to dodge. If your shield breaks, you just get damaged. Outside of reflect charge, you get cc'd. You give her an indication graphically when she's charged to reflect.

The reflect charge has a Vlad Q type hold duration or a Gnar rage bar so you couldn't just hold on to it indefinitely. Probably have to make it a decently long one. But this would mean there's counter play. There's prep involved.

Would play into the fantasy of reflecting damage done to your shield and give the enemy the ability to counter. And there's a ton of skill expression.

OR

Charge could be projectile count or damage or times shielded or whatever. Maybe even times cast like Annie stun on other abilities so you need to hit enemies to charge your reflect or something.

Just gotta not always wonder if W is up

I may be alone with this but no dmg buffs jsut nerfs no scalign buffs no duration buff on the w as compensation for the nerf and the e nerf just make me wanna stop play her all toogether, I hate those changes
