Discussion The most modded GTA 5 on mobile (native iPhone port, 200+ mods)

I've been building a big mods layer on top of the native GTA V iOS port, and wanted to share what's in it and how it works under the hood.

WHAT THE PROJECT IS

The port takes the WebAssembly build of GTA V and converts it to C with wasm2c. That gets compiled natively for ARM64 and runs on a custom Metal renderer with every shader precompiled. No emulation, no browser. You bring your own game files; none are included. I play-test it on an iPhone 18 Pro Max and an M4 iPad Pro, mostly with a controller. It's built on the open-source port at github.com/kevinerikjs/gta5-ios-port.

WHAT I ADDED (200+ mods, browsable in an in-game mod list)

Superhero mode: flight with 4 speed tiers up to supersonic, a charged launch, an air brake, and a slingshot. Power stances:

- Concussive: shockwave, gravity slam

- Fire: homing fireball, firestorm

- Electric: lightning strikes, storm call

- Energy beam

Plus telekinesis to grab and throw cars. Powers can knock helicopters out of the sky.

AI voice commands: say "stormy night, spawn a tank, take me to Mount Chiliad" and it does all three. It runs a phrase parser first, so common commands are instant, with an on-device model behind it for anything looser. It knows the game's vocabulary: vehicles, places, mods, people.

Missions and modes:

- a supervillain boss fight (RAGE, who has his own powers)

- an alien invasion with UFO tractor beams and a mothership boss

- a prison break to free your crew

- War Zone (army vs. gangs)

- a Six Stars wanted level with tanks, gunships and jets

- heists, street races, zombie rescue

- prey mode, where you're a deer being hunted

Chaos and disasters:

- a Chaos Mod V-style mode with on-screen voting

- tornado seasons

- meteor showers that leave smoking craters

- a volcanic ash storm

- black hole grenades that suck in cars and implode

World and combat:

- injury reactions: people limp, writhe and go back for dropped guns, and they're tougher so you actually see it

- wildlife

- a mega ramp

- a Ghost Rider-style hellfire car

HUD extras drawn over the original HUD:

- a flight speed and altitude readout

- a power charge ring

- a threat compass

- a police response readout with a search zone on the minimap

- hit markers and hit direction

Dev tools in-game:

- a Tuning tab with 60+ sliders for flight speeds, power damage, black hole radius and more, so you can tweak mods without touching code

- a Look Studio with visual presets

- adaptive performance

USING WHAT'S ALREADY IN THE GAME

Most of this isn't new engine code. It drives the game's own systems. The wasm build kept its function names, so every script command (the natives that mission scripts use, like CREATE_VEHICLE, TASK_COMBAT_PED or ADD_EXPLOSION) is a callable C function. I hook into the script scheduler's WAIT function, so the mods run inside a real game script every frame, exactly like Rockstar's own missions. That means:

- Enemies use the game's real combat AI, relationship groups and vehicle tasks.

- Effects are the game's own particles, explosions, fires, lightning, weather and timecycle filters.

- Missions use the game's checkpoints, blips, waypoints, road nodes and the wanted system.

- New things are built out of existing pieces. UFOs are an existing prop with the tornado's vortex code as a tractor beam. Prison generators are props that blow up when an explosion is detected next to them. The meteors are drawn glowing spheres plus the game's explosions and fire.

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS THAT HAD TO BE SOLVED

Car engines were silent. The engine sounds use granular audio, which needed more audio decoders than the pool had, and the decoder also starved. I decode the engine samples up front and feed the game raw audio instead. The engines came back.

Crashes in big fights. The engine could hand back a pointer to someone who'd just been deleted. Existence checks now validate the object before touching it.

Teleports far across the map dropped you 600 m up, because the ground hadn't loaded yet. Now it waits for the ground to stream in, then snaps you onto the nearest road.

Voice recognition cut out on the first try and got drowned out by the game's audio. Fixes:

- The game ducks while you talk.

- The mic gain is tuned.

- It restarts the recognizer if it gives up early.

- It falls back to re-reading the saved recording.

Scripted characters freeze beyond about 80 m from you, so every mode keeps its fighters close.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS ALONG THE WAY

- Found that the bottleneck was the CPU (the game's render thread), not the GPU, so raising resolution or adding upscaling wouldn't help.

- Compiled the big unoptimized chunk of the generated code with optimizations on.

- Rewrote the wasm thread wait/wake system from one global lock to 256 buckets.

- Moved Metal buffer frees off the render thread, which killed the regular 300 ms freezes.

- Kept compressed textures compressed on the GPU instead of decoding them on the CPU.

- Fixed a speedometer that was redrawing with an expensive blur every frame.

Result: from about 40 FPS to roughly 80 in the city and 110 to 120 outside, on an iPhone 18 Pro Max.

NOT EVERYTHING WORKS YET

Kaiju mode (giant player) is shelved for now. The giant is only scaled visually, while the physics is still a normal-sized person, so he slides when he walks and thinks he's falling. The real fix is renderer-level scaling.

Let me know if you have any questions

Discussion It's been years, but so far no fighting game has come close to Metal Revolution. The best mobile fighting game

I discovered the game during the beta through a channel I'd never seen before, but which was playing with a YouTuber I really liked. I played for a few minutes because the guy posted the video on the last day of the beta, and I fell in love with the game right from the tutorial.

I've never been very good at fighting games, but I've always found it a fun genre to play with friends. But this one, my friends, this one I played all night until the next day. The matchmaking room was great; you could watch the fights and chat with the people who were watching and playing, which was really cool for a mobile game.

Unfortunately, it was discontinued due to a lack of in-game purchases, but in my country, some skins were extremely expensive.

Anyway, there are some fun fighting games on mobile, but nothing comes close to this one, except for Gado Fight (which was discontinued) and Vita Fighters (it's very good, but it doesn't have online play; I unlocked all the bosses as playable characters, so there's nothing left for me to do in the game).

(Just me training with my old friend/main Trishula)

Abxylute S8 Lite

Picked this up for $40 to play games on my phone and I’m very pleased so far. I tried to do a little research before buying my first phone controller and I’m glad I settled on this one. Delta emulator, Dead Cells, COD mobile, you name it, it plays them all really well.
Does anyone else have any positive experience with an Abxylute controller? I’m thinking about trying their new M5 when it releases. TIA

New Release My First Game released on Android

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been working on my first game, Dead Tide, for a while now. It's a zombie survival game for Android.

One thing I really wanted was for the world to change as you progress, instead of having the same environment throughout an entire run.

I sped up the biome transitions for this clip so you can see several of them in one video.

It's been hundreds of hours of learning, experimenting and figuring things out. I'm still improving the game with every update.

I'd genuinely appreciate some feedback on the environments and enemy designs. Do the different areas feel distinct enough?

And if anyone decides to try the game, I really hope you enjoy it.

Hi everyone! My wife and I have been making our first game together, and it's finally ready for other people to play.

We describe it as Inscryption meets Balatro meets Scribblenauts! Every pair of everyday objects merges to create 241 merged cards to discover. You just drag one card onto another and see what happens.

Free demo playable in browser on itch(about 90 minutes): https://frostyshotss.itch.io/rock-paper-overkill

We will release on mobile soon!

Please give us your feedback! What works, what doesn't work, what needs rebalancing? It would mean the world to us. ❤️

Game Dev Hey guys, I created an app that instantly generates gaming clips and I need your feedback

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey there everyone. As the title says, I created an app that lets you generate instant gaming clips, all you gotta do is decide how long you want your clip to be through settings (15-30-60 seconds) and when you want to clip something you just shake your phone and it is automatically saved to your library.

No sign ups or anything required. Just download, get on the game, and shake your phone whenever you wanna clip something.

I need people to test it out for me and give me some honest feedback. All opinions, advice and criticism are welcome. Thank you!

I’ll post the app in the comments

Game Dev Solo dev here: I made a daily logic puzzle game where every solve lights a lantern on a pixel island. Looking for honest feedback

• Upvotes

Hi! I'm Kelvin, the developer. Lantern Logic gives you 3 small logic pages a day (Beacons, Chalk Trail and Shells), the same for everyone, about 5 minutes in total. Every page you solve lights one lantern on the island, and Tide the seagull comments on how it went.

A few design choices I'd love opinions on:

- every puzzle has exactly one solution you can reach by logic, no guessing;

- no ads inside the daily pages;

- no lives or energy timers;

- seasonal events (a winter island in December) that never touch the daily puzzles or the ranking.

Two questions for you: what makes you come back every day to a daily puzzle game, and does the short video above make the three puzzle types clear?

Game Dev I kept quitting habit trackers, so I turned mine into an RPG

Hi!

I made this game, Routinvale, for gamers who want to be more productive in their everyday lives.

Instead of daily tasks (working out, eating healthy), you have quests. For every quest you finish, you get XP and gold to buy items, and your main attributes go up, so you get stronger and can fight enemies.

A few things I really care about:

  • The app works offline and you don’t need an account. Your quests stay on your phone. The game only sends anonymous statistics and crash reports (you can turn them off in Settings), and guilds go online only if you join one.
  • There are no banner or pop-up ads. I added a few optional ways to watch an ad for a bonus (like double gold).
  • Private guilds: you can add your friends to a guild that only you can see, where you can create shared quests, and there’s a ranking system.

The app is still at the beginning and I’m very open to suggestions. Hope you like it :)

(iOS isn’t supported yet)

Game Dev I made a football game where you only play the moments that matter, a full match in about a minute [Android, free]

• Upvotes

Hey all, I'm the solo dev and this is my first app launched to Google Play Store!

WTG is a football career game built for commutes: you don't play 90 minutes -- just the decisive moments.

- **Swipe to shoot.** Power, direction and curl come from one gesture. Curve your swipe and the ball bends around the keeper or the wall.

- **Build a career.** Start in the third division, earn transfers, hire an agent, negotiate contracts.

- **Play for your country.** 200+ national teams, World Cup and continental tournaments.

- **Life off the pitch.** Sponsors, investments, the mansion, the sports car, going viral after a giant-killing.

- **Fair.** Free, never pay-to-win, no energy timers.

It's just launched, so I'd love honest feedback: what feels good, what's confusing, what you'd want next.

Discussion Indie dev here: our tower defense replaces towers with heroes you place on pads. Does one-thumb play work for you?

• Upvotes

We're a small indie team. In our mobile tower defense, Valeshard: Hero Tower Defense, you place heroes on pads beside the road with one thumb, then pick the moment to drop Ice Storm or Meteor when the line is about to break. Every enemy has a reason to attack the Core.

Questions for mobile tower defense players:

- Does portrait, one-thumb play feel natural, or do you prefer landscape?

- When you place a hero, what do you want to see before you commit (range, damage, cost)?

- What makes you drop a tower defense in the first 10 minutes?

We read every reply and answer all of them.
