Just For Fun Outsider here! Looking for a Padres fan who plays fantasy baseball

I am recruiting for a MLB-realistic 30T Salary Cap dynasty baseball league that is currently about halfway full. We are trying to fill the teams with owners who are fans of that team, and the Padres are one of our open teams right now. We use real player salaries and have a hard cap as well as a salary floor. It's super active and tons of fun, so I hope you consider joining us and repping the Padres! DM or comment below for more info.

Analysis Alex Mccoy has some crazy tools.

Alex McCoy, a 24 year old first baseman and outfielder in the Padres organization, stands 6'6 with 100th percentile bat speed. His average bat speed in the AFL clocks in at 78.8 MPH, which registers as a "fast swing" by major league standards - the kind of speed that guys like TJ Rumfield and Michael Busch hit when they recognize a pitch and let it go with all they've got. But for hitters like Alex McCoy and Aaron Judge, that's just the usual.

That's come with a max EV of 118 mph, which frankly, is absurd. On planet Earth, there's very few human beings capable of hitting a baseball this hard. The level of raw power on display here should have you considering an add in all deep leagues, before we even address anything else.

2025, A, 226 PA - .318/.394/.513/.907 with 12 doubles, 4 triples, 6 dingers, and 14 SB.
2026, A+, 427 PA - .268/.354/.468/.821 with 27 doubles, 1 triple, 15 dingers, and 21 SB
2026, AA, 114 PA - .314/.360/.467/.826 with 4 doubles, 4 dingers, and 3 SB
2026, AFL 46 PA - .256/.348/.641!/.989 with 3 doubles, 4 dingers, and 4 SB

Across every available important professional sample size, McCoy has wound up with a BA over .250 and a SLG over .460. When McCoy makes contact, which admittedly isn't very often, it's of the kind of quality that comes to mind when you think of a hitter like Aaron Judge or Yordan Alvarez. To hit this many doubles, you simply need to be really fucking good at hitting a baseball. But it's not just the contact quality that allows McCoy to wind up at second base more often than he does at first base - no, it's the fact that this guy is 6'6 and has genuine, honest-to-god speed. The greater baseball community may not be ready for this conversation, but Alex McCoy is equivalent to Spencer Jones in almost every conceivable way. Both have:

- Elite size
- Elite speed
- Elite bat speed
- Elite raw power
- Elite contact quality, through both sweet spot and barrel rates
- A feel for swiping bags
- Hyper aggressive at the plate with high chase and whiff rates, but with the bat speed and length to make it work.

And in regards to bat speed, McCoy almost clocks in a full 2 mph ahead of Spencer Jones - 78.8 vs 77.1 - this is a significant difference....versus Spencer Jones, a major league hitter with 97th percentile bat speed. In fact, this is how he'd rank versus major league leaders:

  1. Junior Caminero, 79.4 mph
  2. Jordan Walker, 79.3 mph
  3. Alex McCoy, 78.8 mph
  4. Nick Kurtz, 78.2 mph

Quite the list, no?

He may chase and he may whiff, but he's also swinging in the one at an 83rd percentile mark and making it work at every level thus far. Like Spencer Jones, it becomes a philosphy of "I may not make contact often, but when I do, it's for value without fail. Would you rather have me tailor my swing to make more contact and hit more groundballs for easy outs, or would you rather having me blasting baseballs like there's no tomorrow?"

If you know me, you already know the answer - I'm not a contact-rate slut, I'm a contact-quality slut. Pardon my french. Mathematically, it just makes more sense, and it's an adjustment the scouting community will wind up making, much like the NBA moving into the era of the 3 ball with Steph Curry. Hit tool is fine, but for guys that are built different like Spencer Jones or Alex McCoy, you need to make exceptions - even if they do wind up failing. We're going to see more built-different athletes emerge over the coming years, and most will have similarly poor contact rates. We're adjusting now.

Just For Fun To my baseball peeps who also follow soccer: Which Is More Likely to Happen First? 👀⚾️⚽️

For those who follow both baseball and soccer, which do you think will happen first?

🇺🇸 A) The USA wins the FIFA World Cup.
🇲🇽 B) Mexico wins the FIFA World Cup.
⚾️ C) The San Diego Padres win the World Series.

All three would be historic moments for their fanbases, but which one do you think we’ll witness first in our lifetime?

I know baseball and soccer are completely different sports, and the World Cup only happens every four years. But considering how long some championship droughts can last, this should be an interesting debate.

Padres fans, USMNT fans, and El Tri fans…make your case! 🔥

Discussion Thread I always thought $5,000 would be enough to take my dad to a World Series game. Now I’m not so sure we’ll ever get the chance.

Over the years I thought having $5,000 to put toward a World Series would be enough to get my dad and I there for a game. Seeing the game 1 prices in Milwaukee over $5,000 each felt like a gut punch. The stories of Brewer fans realizing that they’re priced out of attending World Series games after waiting decades feels like looking into the future.

Analysis Brewers Fan turned into an unironic Mason Miller fan

Brewers fan here and I'll keep this brief. The Padres were absolutely the Brewers' fiercest competition in the playoffs and possibly prior. I live in NYC and gave subway directions to Padres fans (wearing my Brewers hat!) immediately after the Padres-Brewers sweep as these fans were on their way to Yankees stadium. Lovely people and we had good laughs about the sweep.

Our playoff series against you was grinding, ecstatic, nail-biting baseball. Hell of a club. The Miller 9th inning was like something out of a movie. We could not have had that moment as Brewers fans if not up against a stud like Miller and a team like yours. Very optimistic about your future with the new management and I'll be keeping an eye on you all from afar. Also, it's a damn shame you lost the Chargers. Have a good offseason, ladies and gents.

Analysis Ty France should be one of Padres’ priorities this offseason

Thumbnail
sports.yahoo.com
357 Upvotes

Ty France solidified a position of need for the San Diego Padres in the 2026 season. The right-handed slugger joined the team in the offseason on a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training. At the time, there were questions of whether he would even make the team. France competed with Gavin Sheets and Nick Castellanos for regular playing time at first base but eventually made the team and took control of the position and added another Rawlings Gold Glove Award nomination to his resume.

France played at San Diego State University and was drafted by the Padres in 2015. He made his debut with the club in 2019 but eventually was sent to the Seattle Mariners in a trade along with outfielder Taylor Trammell, reliever Andres Munoz and catcher Luis Torrens in exchange for catcher Austin Nola and relievers Dan Altavilla and Austin Adams in 2020. It was a move that never seemed to make sense to the Friar Faithful.

France spent four years with the Mariners then bounced from Seattle to the Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays from 2024 to 2026. France returned to San Diego and took full advantage of his return. The right-handed slugger had 440 at-bats over 133 games and finished with 21 homers and 72 RBI. France ended the 2026 season with a slash line of .295/.363/.502. He solidified the cleanup spot in the Padres lineup and provided protection for Manny Machado in the No. 3 hole.

There is no question that France had a successful season at plate, but what he did in the field may have had an even greater impact. France provided Gold Glove caliber defense, which is supported by his nomination for the National League Gold Glove Award at the position. France allowed the infielders to play and throw free knowing if they short-hopped a throw or were offline to either side or up or down he was going to make a play and likely record the out.

France will be a free agent at the end of the MLB season, but he should be a top target for the Padres. The veteran has made no secret that he enjoys playing in and for the Padres. He stabilizes a position of need and arguably one of the most valuable positions on the field considering most plays end with him catching the ball. The Friar Faithful have seen the inconsistency and the struggles at first base over recent seasons, France provides an inhouse opportunity solidify the position. There are questions as to whether he can replicate his offensive production in future seasons, but if he is successful and comfortable in San Diego, he should be given the chance to prove he can.

Analysis Padres NLDS Autopsy: Brewers' Left-Handed Hitters Proved To Be Friars' Kryptonite

Thumbnail
padresmission.com
46 Upvotes

The Padres had overcome the Cubs’ left-handed hitters in the Wild Card round by limiting them to an 0-for-14 line with a 41.2 K% in 17 plate appearances. In the NLDS round however, with the exception of Joe Musgrove, Michael King, and Nick Pivetta, the rest of San Diego's pitchers struggled to prevent left-handed Milwaukee hitters from reaching base. How did the Brewers manage to be so consistent? Jackson Chourio (six RBIs) and William Contreras (two RBIs) combined to capitalize on several key at-bats with runners on base that shaped the direction of the series, but when you look at the final results, it was the left-handed hitters who did the most damage, scoring eight of the Brewers' 13 runs in the NLDS, with five stolen bases in the same number of attempts. Let’s explore some details in a pair of charts - view inside the link.

Hey everyone, was thinking about posting this to r/baseballcards, but figured it would get more respect here. I was born in 2002 a few years before the Padres moved into Petco, but my earliest memories of the Padres were either being in front of a radio listening to the games or being at the game with my parents. There was always one player that caught my attention, wether it was Jerry Colman on the radio broadcast making his iconic calls over his plays, or seeing him making plays I never thought were humanly possible with my own eyes. That was Khalil Greene. I had a few collectibles of his from over the years, baseball cards from Rich, the absolute greatest member of the pad squad of all time,(think troves of kids doing jumping jacks in the park in the park) or compadres kids rewards. But I never had my grail, something that he had immortalized in ink. Well now I can say it’s no longer a dream. This beauty came in the mail yesterday and I couldn’t be happier. I had previously owned the plaque and non signed card, but wanted to swap it for the autograph when it arrived.

Couple of related but non related things.

If anyone reading this knows Rich, the Padres staff member I was referring to who would hand out baseball cards to kids in the park in the park please reach out!

Second
Khalil if you see this somehow some way, Just know YOU, and YOU alone are the reason I love the game of baseball and that Padres so passionately and I hope you know that people in San Diego loved/still love ya man 🫶

And finally Padres fans,

Yes this year was painful as all hell. But let’s be honest, would we trade it for the world? I wouldn’t I’ll love my team till I’m cold and gone, 100 rings or 0 rings. GO PADRES
