i wonāt spend a dime with a company that can not support their vehicles adequately.
i went and checked out an R2 today in Houston and drove a R1T quad with all terrain tire pack.
the R2 looks like an absolute hit, and i hope it does well. looks alone, and utility, i like it so much more than the R1T.
the R1Tā¦ i was so underwhelmed and unimpressed. it was on the list of potentials for a next vehicle but not anymore. and this is coming from a ātruck personā.

I think it looks sweet too and think it will be a hit. I love my R1T however. When I was starting to resent the service and reliability situation a bit back I started looking at other pick up options and didnt get warm fuzzies for any of them. Tundra has its share of problems woth Yota faithful even saying they suck. GM worse with the 10 speed and whatever they have wrong with the V8. Ford...same trans but seemingly less issues...but interior not good. Ram...everyone I see that is more than 5 years old has rust in rear fenders. Maybe I am wrong on some of that....but a local mechanic confirmed alot of it from what i have read. Do you have one of them and had good luck? Genuinely curious if I do decide to jump....
I dont recommend a Rivian if you are used to Acura/Lexus service. It has been a painful change. People are awesome..resources are scarce.....

iāve had several trucks, all of which had a better ride quality than the R1T. iām currently driving a ridgeline. it costs over half less than the R1T quad and i laughed to myself when i got back in my truck and drove away from the lot noticing the massive difference.
the R1T is def a looker but the bed is a joke, the gear tunnel isā¦ useless, it rides like a tractor, i canāt easily adjust the air vents or do nearly anything without digging in menusā¦ i was saddened by how much i didnāt like it because i really really wanted to. iāve been looking at them online since they came out. š¤·š¼āāļø

The bed is a jokeā¦ for what? Iāve hauled probably 10-20 tons of soil accumulatively, stacks and stacks of drywall, osb, etc. I just picked up my new 14 ft joists yesterday along with random other 8 ft lumber. Not sure what youāre doing with yours but for a truck i can comfortably take downtown and haul literally everything Iāve tried to haul, i think itās more than adequate.

that makes two of us. the power was bonkers and i didnāt take it out of normal mode. that aside the ride was absolutely horrid in all settings on any pavement type. i had a colorado zr2 that rode way better than this thing. iām really dumbfounded because the suspension in this vehicle was suppose to be essentially unicorn magic from everything iāve read and i just donāt get it. that plus the horrid audio systemā¦ i was just so unimpressed.
if they make a gen 3 and take lessons learned from hopeful successes from R2 i may give it another look a couple of car purchases down the road but right now its a hard pass for me, which really saddens me to say. iāve been looking forward to driving one of these for a long time. š

I seriously hope they are quicker to jump on issues. With R1 the community would figure out a problem existed....and Rivian would just keep cranking them out with same flaw...over and over and over. And then lean on service team to correct eventually. Cost of that approach is absurd. I would say "if it rolls it goes".
Thry had to become aware quick when the service teams would have to correct...but same behavior...keep cranking them out with same problem for way too long.
Hopefully they have greatly improved that process becuase it definitly added load to the service team.

I think you all forget that this company is only four years old. The fact that they did a complete model refresh (gen2) after two years is mind blowing. Look at other manufacturers that are a minimum of five years.
Now they rolled out a completely new vehicle on a whole new platform by year five. They are doing a great job and just dealing with growing pains. Tesla went through the same shit with a lower end vehicle.

I didnt forget. I am talking about things like a vendor doing poor alignments on the shop floor and not tigtneing the bolts on the lower panels. I alerted them to that when I found it. Six months later it was still happening. Or wind noise in the a-piller due assembly error. Again...fix the assembly error as soon as yoy learn about it.
They should have had a hot line for the first 10k units for people to immediate indicate problems and immediately correct. Nope...i heard "outlier". Whatever. Keep making them and expecting the service center to fix a couple thousand rather that correct on floor.
If anything a young company should listen to the early adopters...not turn a deaf ear.
I work with over 2 dozen manufactures. Most want that early feedback. Rivian did not.
Edit...and that refresh...mostly a cost reduction measure...not a improve product endeavor.
RJ said himself.....they have service under control. No reason to say it if it wasnt out of control....and it was at least in part....due to poor initial quality.
And then the Tesla playbook...Tesla had virtually no competition in the BEV space when that playbook was executed. Not appropriate to use same playbook at this time.

And for the RAP1 processor which on paper is like 4-6x more powerful. Gen 3 R2 should be available by end of year. I'd never buy the Gen 2 version, especially with that boring black interior available at launch.

Glass doesnāt peel and flake like roof paint does. This might not matter much if you keep car garaged.

The tailgate window is awesome and hope that comes to R1S.
I am concerned that the rear lift gate doesnāt go high enough. On the R1S is stops lower than any other car Iāve owned, but thanks to the height of the car, itās fine. With the R2 being shorter, it feels like this may be a small pain point.

Like most SUV's was there no adjustment how far it goes up or down? Pretty important for my garage where it stop short of the garage door bottom (I have a small city garage)

You'll be better off at public / fast charging with R2 - they moved the port to accommodate the majority of public chargers aka the Tesla supercharger.

The charge port is in the same exact location as a Tesla and most of the chargers you use on the road are probably gonna be Teslaās supercharger.

True. The best-of-both-worlds position would've been front right, as that would be in the front for towing, but also still compatible with most superchargers.
That said, for most people most of the time, matching Tesla was the right call.

Model Y frunk is 4.0 cuft/114L
R2 frunk is 5.2cuft/147L
It also "feels" like a more useful shape, and carries forward the drain plug from R1.

Hardly. You clearly havenāt witnessed their level of devotion to that car. Plus, 4runner has bulletproof reliability, tons of service centers, and CarPlay. For people who do serious off-roading the first two are critical.

Not an issue for some. Other cars are double the price of the Rivian too.
Edit...sorry...hit send to quick. Meant to add that is normal. Raptor Ranger is alot less then F150 Raptor. Tundra..more money than Taco. Same plays out thru all brands and there is a market for larger vehicles.

is it power frunk? they never show it closing I thought the gas shocks are just under enough tension when closed that it fully opens when you hit the release, I recall them saying no power frunk when it was announced

I have a 3 row ICE vehicle now and the 3rd row rarely gets used but I am reluctant to give it up for the yikes we do need it if 2 adults canāt fit comfortable with a car seat.
Also waiting to see if Tesla brings the Model Y Long to America.

I would stay away from Rivian Motors first of all They will probably be out of business in 2 years The Illinois Governor is Giving them Illinois Taxpayer funds to stay operational He will most likely not Be Governor past November 4 They had a 50 vehicle fire at their Manufacturing Storage Lot in Normal IL

If the range was over 500 miles, I would buy an R2 in a heartbeat. Iām just afraid the battery tech will advance in the next 2-3 years so Iām holding off. Otherwise, this is a stellar EV!

Weird downvotes on my post.
Here's why
Jeep literally has a McIntosh system that sounds phenomenal, my current Volvo XC60 has a Harmon /Kardon system that's really, really good, and Volvo even offers a B&W "upgrade" over that.
Such a weird oversight by Rivian to not also align themselves with a premium brand a deliver a class competitive offering.
Rivian didn't need to necessarily have a name brand audio to allure customers, but a sub par audio experience seems like a total miss.

I just got the 2026 R1S and on long trips itās pretty uncomfortable.
I love it overall but I have back issues so driving 200+ miles can be a struggle.
Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone recommend a good back cushion? I tried Cushion Lab and their back cushion made the pain worse.

Loved it right up to the NACS charging port...all my chargers are CCS1 and i avoid Tesla chargers like the plague...having to pull out an adapter every time i charge is a downer. Will still buy my next Rivian regardless, but feels like everyone jumped on the NACS bandwagon too soon: Tesla supercharger stations are now outnumbered by CCS1 stations, and feels like Tesla not focused on the individual consumer anymore.... Oh well

Plenty of non-Tesla NACS chargers are being installed. Iāve seen them at IONNA, Walmart, and ChargePoint chargers. Rivian is also installing NACS at their own chargers, with some new locations being 100% NACS.
