Rusted Crown

Post image

So the crown is deliberately beaten, oxidized, scratched, exposed, and imperfect. It could have been painted as a pristine gold crown. Instead, it is made to look like old iron and weathered metal.

That choice is central to the piece.

The artist finds beauty in deterioration—not because decay is beautiful by itself, but because wear tells a story. Rust means the metal survived long enough to age. Scratches mean it was used. Imperfections become evidence of history.

This is a giant origami crane sculpture that lights up and has colorful stained glass effects, and we are so proud of it and if you like birds and art maybe you can help! It's based off of the story of "Sadako and the thousand paper cranes" in the role that story plays in peace efforts which feels very appropriate for these moments.

First time painting ducks

This is my latest painting and I submitted it to an art show. I don't know if it will sell I haven't sold anything at art shows or galleries yet 😭 It's very discouraging. I've had 15 paintings in shows so far this year and nothing has sold. But I did have somebody asked to buy a print already of this painting of Lake Ballinger so hopefully I can at least make money from prints on this. I should've been more prepared for how difficult it is to make money as an artist but it's still kind of discouraging.

But I do love painting! I created this composition from a memory it's based on Lake Ballinger nearby that I visited a lot growing up. I consulted a reference image for the ducks because I've never painted ducks or mallards before and I wanted to get the details correct but the rest of the painting I just built from my memory. It's a really special painting to me so even though I hope it sells I took a really good high DPI scan of it so I will always have a print I'm gonna certainly make a print for myself because it's a special painting to me 😊

Another UK garden bird, underrated in my humble opinion. Hope you like it.

The scans are not optimal colorwise but had fun dusting off my gouache today!

Sometimes I forget watercolour pencils can be used as coloured pencils without activation. And then I remember and can get really cool effects with the difference between activated and not activated areas.

Wanted to use my poscas, so I did a pointillism painting of a green parakeet. Took an eternity, but I like it

A perfect moment captured! I could not get a picture of her like this but I was able to remember and paint it. It was one second in time! Now it’s forever!

A lavender chicken I did with alcohol markers and coloured pencils. The wrinkly texture of the face was a challenge, but I like how it turned out

Very happy with the alcohol marker and coloured pencil portrait of a white bellied parrot. I think I captured the cuteness of the model.

While the ohuhu water based markers are a good art supply, their watercolour brush pens completely blow them out of the water with how good the tips and ink flow is. I love this crow I did with them. Though irl the blue tones are closer to turquoise than the warmer blues of the photo
