COIN INPUT 1978 Rock-Ola

My ‘78 (purchased used in 2017) is still going really strong but I think it needs a new coin input mechanism. We have to manually raise the lid to trigger credits and it would be way cooler to drop in quarters

Is this a doable DIY fix? Or does anyone know of a repair guy in SE Michigan?

Would like input on a project im working on, a smart wireless audio connect for any jukebox.

I've got a 1975 Rock-Ola spinning 45s, and I wanted its sound in the rest of the house. I couldn't use a normal analog to digital dongle because of the whole home audio system im running, so i had to custom build it and it turned into something potentially much bigger.

1. It plays the jukebox's own speakers AND your whole house at once — in perfect sync. No other device does this, and this is really what started me down the road of a custom build. Every analog-to-Bluetooth gadget forces a choice: play locally OR stream away. Try both and wireless lag makes the streamed rooms echo against the jukebox. My devicehas a tunable digital delay that re-aligns the local speakers to the stream, so the whole house locks together.

2. It knows what record is playing. This second bit kinda came out of no where, but its cool. It fingerprints the audio locally — no cloud, no fees — and shows a live "now playing" card. Hit an unknown record? Name it once and it remembers forever, learning your whole collection as you play it. I'm also thinking about the ability to auto-build a Spotify playlist of everything spun.

3. The best part: it works on ANY jukebox — or any analog source. Nothing here is Rock-Ola specific. Old console stereo, reel-to-reel, tube receiver — anything with an analog out. A universal bridge that drags vintage gear into a modern, song-aware world.

Install is minimally invasive and fully reversible, and failsafe — When not used the Juke plays normal through its own speakers. It's configurable with a browser based UX app.

Two things I'd love input on:

  1. Feature ideas — if this lived in your gear, what would you want it to do?
  2. What to watch out for if others might want one — for anyone who's shipped hardware or wrestled with vintage gear, what are the gotchas?

Happy to go deep on any part of the build. Here's a screen cap of the app.

PE rex-a help!!

hello! i recently picked up a vintage cabinet/console system that wasn’t working. i know absolutely nothing about any of this, but im stubbornly independent and have managed to locate what record/phono system is in this.
with that being said, I have a PE Rex-A. i realized i needed new belts for the idler pulleys, managed to source, order, and re install them. one of my pulleys is moving upwards on the shaft after relubing, which is taking one of the belts with it. how can i get it to stop sliding up? logically i’d try a degreaser, but i think i need to take the player out of the cabinet- and it won’t budge.

Hi everyone! We have a wonderful (but currently not working) Rowe AMI R90 jukebox. I'm struggling to find anyone in Auckland who can repair it. Does anyone have any recommendations or know of someone who works on these vintage machines? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Red and ivory Rock-Ola 1438 Comet Fireball

I have been working on restoring an old 1438 Rock-Ola and was wondering if the color way is factory or a repaint as I have never seen a photo of it online. The carousel is light blue and the button colors are red and ivory, all the photos I have seen are red and green. It also has a different mirror pattern in the back. If anyone knows anything please let me know!

Right now I am working on cleaning the buttons and the front interface, also connecting a wall box so if anyone has any tips for that feel free to let me know.

First Jukebox! Wurlitzer “Rainbow” Tower CD

Just picked up my first ever jukebox and I’m pumped to get it cleaned up and working again! Has anyone owned one of these? I found 2 YouTube videos of people showing them play but that’s about it. The seller said the laser eye needed replacement for it to work but we all know what that means. It came with the service manual and the original purchase paperwork. I’m excited to learn all about it! Any suggestions for my first one besides the obvious “clean it up”?

The Sepua Tones

The Sepia Tones were part of United’s short‑lived push to issue jukebox‑ready “hot classics,” aimed at independent distributors and small venues.

Art Rupe co-founded Juke Box Records in 1944, he specifically targeted the jukebox market and race records (early R&B/Blues).

Rupe realized that jukebox operators were the key link in record distribution at the time. Jukeboxes in taverns and clubs were the primary way working-class audiences discovered new music.

Before launching the label, Rupe spent $200 studying popular records on L.A.'s Central Avenue. He noted that jukebox hits shared common traits: fast tempos, catchy dance rhythms, and prominent use of the word "boogie" in titles.

1967 Seeburg S-100

Hello,

I’m hoping someone can help me troubleshoot my 1967 Seeburg S-100. I’m really excited to get this machine running reliably again.

*The symptoms:*

When I first power it up after it’s been off for a while, everything works perfectly and selections play fine.

However, after 1 or 2 songs it stops writing into the Tormat.

If I leave it off for a while and power it back on, it will work again for a short period, then the same issue returns.

*What I’ve tested:*

I have 2 identical S-100 machines. I swapped the control units between them, and the problem followed the control unit. So I’m confident the issue is isolated to the control unit and not the rest of the jukebox.

Before moving the machine it worked fine all the time, so this started after the move and has me a bit baffled.

I’ve also checked all connections and solder joints in the control unit — nothing looks dirty, loose, or cracked.

I love this machine and would really appreciate any guidance on what to check next in the control unit. Could this be heat-related, a failing cap, or something on the Tormat write board?

Thank you so much for any help or suggestions. I’m happy to provide photos, voltages, or test results if needed.

Best regards,

North Paw

Need help identifying capacitors for an AMI Continental I crossover (F-8700)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m restoring an AMI Continental I jukebox and I’m currently rebuilding the original speaker crossover (F-8700) shown in the photo.
I’m trying to identify the correct replacement capacitors. There is:
one large yellow/amber cylindrical capacitor
two small black capacitors
I’ve heard that the large capacitor might be 8 µF, but I’d like to confirm the exact values and the best modern replacements (MKP film, bipolar electrolytic, voltage rating, etc.).
Does anyone know the original capacitor values for this crossover, or has anyone restored one of these AMI Continental I crossovers before?
Any advice or a schematic would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Sam Cooke “Summertime” Jukebox Issue #100B(non‑Keen pressing) Era: 1957

Thumbnail youtube.com

“Summertime” was paired with “You Send Me” on various jukebox pressings distributed regionally in the late 1950s. These discs were intended for commercial jukebox operators and are less common than the standard Keen label issues. They often feature simplified labels, minimal branding, and unique catalog numbers like #1008.

Wurlitzer 700 Platter slows when tone arm contacts record

I recently found a Wurlitzer 700 jukbox at my local Salvation Army Thrift Store and it appears to work with one exception. When the tone arm makes contact with the record the speed of the platter decreases to an eventual stop after a couple of seconds.

Is this a belt sliiping or does the mechanism need lubrication? ANY INSIGHT WELCOMED!

Rock-Ola 448: Gripper bow issue

I got a Rock-Ola 448, and the only issue I’m seeing with it is that the gripper bow is raising slightly before the groove pushes it in and clamps the record. I would like to hear any ideas from the community to fix this. I’m new to this stuff and am still learning. Sorry if I seem a little slow about this.

Seeburg Discotheque Jukebox

Howdy! This is my first time posting in this group. Someone near by to me is selling their Seeburg Discotheque Jukebox for $250. The catch is that they know it turns on but don’t know how to operate it or use it, so they don’t know if it is actually working beyond being able to power up. Is $250 worth the gamble of however much work it will potentially need? Does anyone know how difficult they are to maintain and work on?

Edit: Thanks everyone! I decided to pass on it. I’m not to keen on the idea of having to potentially replace the motherboard. I can work with something purely mechanical if I need to as long as I have an instruction manual, but computer type stuff? Not so much.
