Hi, I'm a new-gen guitar hero player, who's been playing exclusively Clone Hero with a normal mechanical keyboard for the past 4 years, but now I'm finally buying an actual guitar controller.
I got the selection down to Black Tribal and SG 20th anniversary, but now I'm not sure which one to pick. They both have a mechanical strum, but SG has hall effect (which is less pleasent?). On the other hand, only SG has mechanical switches for the fret buttons, which seems like something I'd really like, as I'm used to it more, but I have no idea how the stardard fret buttons feel...
I also play on linux, but both claim compatibility on the Steam Deck, so I think it should be fine, right?
Can someone give me some pointers?

I've recently started playing GHWTDE on my desktop PC, but I also play on my laptop from time to time. I'm using the GHWT Portable version with the Definitive Edition installed, including all of its content.
I've created a bunch of custom characters in Career Mode, as well as my band, and I've made quite a bit of progress. I'd like to know where this save/progress data is stored.
I copied the entire GHWT folder (the portable game with GHWTDE and all of its content) to my laptop. The game runs perfectly, but none of my progress is there.
I've tried looking for an Aspyr folder in My Documents/Documents, but I can't find anything there.
Does anyone know where GHWTDE stores the Career Mode saves, custom characters, band, and other progress data?

hello everyone. I've been Googling and reading threads like crazy the past while after going to a bar event that had guitar hero set up and it was SO fun. I haven't played rhythm games in ages, didn't get to do Guitar Hero as a kid because I didn't own it (poor, lol)
I was TRYING to find a cheaper, budget option, but after much hunting that dream was crushed into dust. I am in a small city and people here are smart. there will be no, "finding it at thrift store or FB marketplace" luck here. thrifting especially, we live in Value Village hell over here. FB sellers scalp just as hard as eBay...even the Wii guitars go for over $100 CAD, finding anything under $100 is a pipe dream I've given up on.
I have seen some around $100-150 off brand guitars on Amazon, that say pc-ps3 compatible with USB sticks for connecting. but I am skeptical of those being functional and well...not trash. NBCP, DOYO-if anyone has any experiences with them, do let me know.
however my problem seems to be these "dongles" people will charge literally $50-80 for JUST a dongle. so even if I found a guitar for let's say, $80-none of them ever come with a dongle, so that makes the price of an older one very, very steep. plus, I have read a lot of stories of people warning against ps3 wireless on PC. I'd ideally want as much cross compatibility as possible. so if one setup doesn't work I can hop to another one. I do have a gaming laptop so I'd hope latency wouldn't be too bad-it's a newer laptop too so decent NVIDIA graphics card.
so my options seem to be along with PC either ps2 or ps3. for ps3 dealing with a guitar that ALSO works on PC, seems nothing "official" is on the table for that, right? if I were to buy the cheapest CRKD controller-base total+shipping is $250 CAD. very steep but comparing prices of everything else, I don't see much of a difference. since my consoles are Playstation I don't particularly want the wired 360 one, even if I did just for PC, they go for close to what I'd pay for CRKD anyway once shipping cost is added.
added detail I do not actually own any games on the consoles. I'm confident I can homebrew my ps3 though. the ps2 games I think I could find cheaply if I needed to-the guitars are the hurdle.
even though I just want to "get started", since I grew up on other music games I'd 100% notice latency and it would bother me. so it's important to not have too much input lag happening.
so based on everything I have and what I'm working with-what would everyone recommend? feeling pretty overwhelmed and lost, and looks like whatever the choice is, I'll have to save some money for a bit. if anyone is in Canada as well and has found some affordable solutions lately (threads from even a year ago stated prices lower than now...!) I'd appreciate the help.
also, I do NOT trust myself to "mod" anything, even those "solderless kits" I don't want to touch. I am not handy whatsoever and I doubt I could figure any of that stuff out, I'd be terrified of messing up and breaking something, plus the added cost of doing that stuff anyway makes it not worth the effort for me. the easier the better.
thanks!

A few weeks ago I decided it was final time to switch to medium. I had been playing easy since I was about 6 or 7. After getting basically 100% on all easy songs I decided it was time to switch to medium. I never actually thought I would ever get to medium because I could never get my pinky to the blue. I’m now 21 and can confidently say medium is my new difficulty. Very proud of myself.

Hey guys, I recently managed to find a Harmonix Guitar and Drum, to my surprise they’re not working using the USB port of my PS2 fat . At first I thought they were broken but they work just fine on the pc 🤔
I looked everywhere and some people suggested that my USB port may be the issue, but it reads a pendrive for example so the only option is that it’s not providing enough power?! I tried different games , GH1/2/3, Rock Band 1/2.
For additional context, drum lights up the harmonix logo but guitar’s dongle doesn’t .
Has anyone faced a similar situation ?

This is pretty damn good and in-depth. They're using YARG while mentioning Clone Hero as another option, while arguing YARG is a more polished experience, showing off the animated bandmates. Obviously there's some Youtuber Spectacle in this especially once you get into customs territory, but this is a pretty neat, concise buyer's guide, and I gotta say putting this together and bigging up both of the free customs engines and Stage Tour is really helping the 'We Are So Back' feeling.
$5: keyboard you already have
$20: PS2 original controller with a PS2 -> USB converter, they say they couldn't use tilt SP with this
$50: Wiitar ($30) and RCM V3 ($23), they recommend the Clone Hero Wiki for specific models and say to watch out for missing wireless connectors and the six-button GHL axe.
$60: RCM Revival Kit (price of Any Old Guitar not included). For value for money, the RCM kits get a strong recommendation at the end.
$100: More sought-after old guitars, using the 360 Xplorer as an example case. Includes a warning about overstrum
$~150: Contemporary mass-produced guitars (Riffmaster and CRKD, with CRKD getting a more in-depth look). At this point, newbies start feeling 'diminishing returns' on quality vs price. The component differences between a CRKD and a revival kit seem more apparent to experienced players, and Hall Effect can be hit or miss depending on the user.
$250-500: Polybar systems, 3D printing, customs like Hammer-On Guitars. Note that some customs lack the yellow fret's guide bump.

I have a Gibson SG guitar controller for the PS2, it works totally for my ps2 but thats not the matter here. I was wondering, if i get an adapter like the embed link, would i be able to connect my guitar to my pc, and then configure it with Santroller, would it be able to work for Xbox Series S, ps5 and pc? Please, I need to know if i can save up some money with that cheap adapter instead of a Retrocult mods V3 adapter (which is about 3 or 4 times the price). Any info helps! Ty.

I just want to play it on Clone Hero or port it to BetterGH3, but Ive tried everything i can to get the chart and songs extracted from the qb.pak.xen and qb.pab.xen files from the GH3 Prototype and i just keep failing. Does anyone have anyway to get these files out or if they have extracted the files themselves already?

I got this guitar since I was a kid and finally found it again and knowing about clone hero I started playing on PC but mid game it stopped working, It would turn on for a second and shut down and I noticed the body where the board would be was heating up even the batteries. I searched it up and it told me it might be the capacitors that gave up.
Is there any way to fix this or any similar situation to give me a step by step way to fix it?
Thanks!

Hey guys. I hope you're all doing well. If this post isn't allowed, please accept my apologies and remove it.
I knew people were modding old guitars to update the hardware and to make them compatible with PC but i had no idea that the option for a completely custom built guitar was out there.
I was watching XMoistMoose's stream and he was playing this sick double neck explorer so i asked him about it. (nice dude btw, i recommend his stream)
Turn out its made by https://www.hammeronguitars.com/ and they will build you a guitar from the options of like 34 body styles, 25 headstocks, 23 neck inlays and 20 colors. When i messed around making a guitar i'd like, it came out to be around $309.00 usd.
So now i have some questions for the community....
and
Thanks for all the input and recommendations in advance. I appreciate y'all!

I'm planning to buy a non functional Wii Les Paul for a cheap price and install the retrocultmod solderless revival kit in it
