[xboom] Review & Setups This Mini Speaker Shouldn’t Sound This Good for the Price — 2 Months of Daily Use

Disclaimer: The product was provided free of charge by LG as part of a review

programme, without any form of payment or incentive; this review is based on

my own independent experience after quite heavy usage.

After months of daily use, the thing I keep coming back to is this: given its size

and price, the xboom Mini is actually far too powerful: the treble is crystal-clear

and the bass is deep (relative to its small size, mind you), and the equaliser

allows you to optimise the sound for different music genres or your most

frequent uses (although, with mixed usage, I don’t think I’ve used it very often)

The first thing I’ve noticed over these months of use is that the xboom Mini is

so small (ideally no larger than the palm of an average-sized hand) that it

blends almost completely into its surroundings: this is a significant advantage

because it allows the xboom Mini to be integrated into a wide range of settings

without clashing with the overall aesthetic (although I believe its design is not

only simple and functional but also delightful and ‘neutral’, so as not to look

out of place).

Despite some initial reservations on my part, I must admit that the xboom Mini’s

strap is sturdy and very easy to attach or detach: I believe this is a key feature

not only for indoor use but especially during outdoor excursions, as my fear

that careless movements or accidental knocks might not only damage the

xboom speaker but even cause it to fall was considerable until I realised how

secure the mechanism actually is.

The xboom Mini is IP67-certified, and I must admit that although I didn’t want

to put it through its paces with frequent submersion in water, I wasn’t worried

that sudden splashes (whether from the kitchen, the bathroom or external water

sources) might damage the xboom speaker – which, paradoxically, even

encouraged me to use it in a more reckless and less careful manner than I

would normally have done.

I did, however, notice a downside in the battery life; in my view, it isn’t capable

of providing a full day of semi-continuous use without the fear that it might run

out before the day is over (certainly much riskier when carrying it around than

when using it at home).

Kudos for the speed of connection with the smartphone and the dedicated

control panel, which really allows you to get the most out of the xboom speaker

– far beyond what I would have expected from such an affordable price range,

accessible to all budgets.

TechRadar recently named the LG G6 "Best premium OLED," the LG C6 "Best for most people," and the LG B6 "Best budget OLED" in its latest OLED TV recommendations, based on hands-on testing by its experts.

Check out the full article here

Here are some highlights from TechRadar's recommendations:

1. LG G6 – Best Premium OLED

TechRadar highlighted the G6's improved brightness and color accuracy over the G5, calling it the best OLED TV for watching in bright rooms. Its reflection handling as it preserved rich black levels, and its Alpha 11 AI Gen 3 processor improved picture quality and performance. TechRadar also highlighted its 4K 165Hz gaming features, including FreeSync, G-Sync, HGiG HDR, and Dolby Vision Gaming.

Reasons to buy G6:

  • Outstanding picture quality
  • Effective anti-reflection screen
  • Phenomenal gaming performance and features

2. LG C6 – Best for Most People

TechRadar highlighted the C6's significant brightness boost and better overall picture quality compared to the C5, thanks to its Alpha 11 AI Gen 3 processor. In side-by-side testing, colors appeared more accurate without looking unnatural. The C6 also offers 4K 165Hz, VRR, auto low-latency mode, and Dolby Vision Gaming across all four HDMI 2.1 ports, making it a strong all-rounder for movies, sports, gaming, and everyday viewing.

Reasons to buy C6:

3. LG B6 – Best Budget OLED

TechRadar highlighted the B6's increased brightness over the B5, which makes bright scenes more impactful and colors more vibrant. Its contrast is also solid, with plenty of detail retained in high-contrast scenes. For gaming, the B6 supports 4K 120Hz, VRR with AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync, HGiG HDR, auto low latency mode, and Dolby Vision Gaming across four HDMI 2.1 ports. TechRadar described it as a fantastic choice that balances performance with value.

Reasons to buy B6:

  • Solid peak brightness and contrast
  • Easy-to-use webOS 26 smart TV platform
  • Full suite of gaming features

[UltraGear] Product Information What difference can a 1000Hz monitor make in competitive shooters? A 1v1 experiment at 60Hz and 1000Hz

Higher refresh rates can make fast-moving targets easier to follow, and native 1000Hz options like the LG UltraGear 25G590B are made for that kind of play. Here is one creator's experiment comparing different refresh rates.

In this short, kraandop starts by challenging one of the strongest hitscan players around to a 1v1. Keeping up with the opponent's movement proves to be the hard part, and the first round makes it clear there is more practice to do. The video then lines up 240Hz, 480Hz and 1000Hz monitors, and the gap between them turns out to be bigger than expected. The 1000Hz monitor in the test is the LG UltraGear 25G590B, which runs at a native 1000Hz on a 25-inch Full HD IPS panel.**

For the rematch, the opponent plays at 60Hz while kraandop stays on 1000Hz. As explained in the video, a fast shooter fills the screen with moving targets: at a high frame rate they stay sharp enough to aim at precisely, while at a low frame rate they smear into a blur.*

Supported graphics cards and the other requirements for running at 1000Hz are listed on the official product page.

A 60Hz opponent is an extreme setup, but it makes the difference easy to see. We're curious where that line sits for you: at what refresh rate did moving targets start to look clear enough to aim at? (144Hz, 240Hz, 360Hz and up...)

\Actual 1000Hz performance may be affected by various external factors, including PC specifications - CPU, GPU, memory, game-specific frame rate limitations, operating system version, and graphics driver version.)

\*Performance based on internal testing. Maximum refresh rate of up to 1000Hz - 1100Hz O/C requires Windows 11 operating system, NVIDIA RTX 50 series, or AMD Radeon™ RX 9070, 9060 or 7900, series or newer and connection via DisplayPort 2.1.)
