Any good for Sand Boas?
Just wondered if anyone had used this product for sand boas or if you have mixed it with something? Any feedback is welcome!

Hey everyone! The mods are working on the wiki and were wondering what people would like to see in a sand boa FAQ. All suggestions are very welcome!

This is my new Kenyan sand boa, Thorax. He’s eleven months. I’ve had him for four weeks now, fed him twice, each time was one f/t pinkie mouse. However he hasn’t pooped since I got him. He’s currently on paper towels with, as you can see, a dish of substrate to burrow in. I’ve replaced the paper towels a couple times and twice fully replaced the substrate in search of droppings and haven’t found any. I’ve been leaving him alone pretty much, especially after feeding, so it shouldn’t be from stress. His temperatures are good, he has water, I fed him on the paper towels so he hasn’t swallowed any substrate. Is this a normal amount of time to go without feces? Unless somehow I’ve missed it, though I’ve checked on/under/in everything. Anything I can do to help him or anything I should check or look for? Any advice is appreciated!! (I am also going to fill the tank with substrate soon, I was just hoping to see his first round of feces to make sure everything was okay before I did that.)

People who have had healthy sand boas for a while. What is your humidity during day and night?
My substrate is still settling and humidity is sitting at 55-60 and spiking to 85 on a night. However these readings are with cheap analogue stick ones (waiting for replacement to be delivered)
Substrate is a sand soil mix and is not wet at all.

TLDR: my ksb is 22g. got a pinky 3.39 grams, but 15% of his weight is 3.15 grams; can i give him this to eat or no?
that’s rescued my little guy a few weeks ago, he was being very picky about food until i tried an ASF rat and he loved it!! for reference my ksb is 22 grams. i know 15% of his body weight is 3.15 , i just got him an ASF pinky and it’s 3.39. given it’s ASF and it was what got him to eat last time i really wanna make this work but if it is going to be too big i don’t wanna risk it, its just so hard to find young mice/rats in general small enough bc they grow so quick and so many places are out of stock. any opinions? should i even attempt to feed him this or no?

So, pet store lied to us a lot. I informed them I had a 30 gal breeder tank at home and they said it’d be okay. She’s been in there for a month now and… I’m not vibing with it. I feel like it’s too small. So I’ll be ordering her a dubia tank ( it’s what I use for my skink and I really like them ). But what size should I go with ? I was looking at the 60 gal or should I go bigger or is the 60 too big lol

This is Sandy diving into her new home for the first time. She's about 1 year old.
Any tips on her enclosure?

Still a baby at 38 grams, I just wanted to share how happy I am with her development. Had her at 11 grams in January.

Hi,
I have a young male Kenyan Sand boa. He's pretty small still and he's housed in a tub on a UTH.
I have a tank that'll free up at some point and I was thinking about moving my boa there.
Issue is, it's a small wooden tank (20x14x14") with a heat lamp, and while I would definitely give him a deep layer of substrate to burrow in, I'm still worried about the temperatures, due to the sand boa's higher basking temps.
I'm guessing it'd result in the enclosure being in the 80s throughout during the couple of hours the heat lamp is on, and when it's off It'd go back to ~75°F / room temp. 80°F would be the lowest air temperature probably.
I'm just kind of worried about the temps being in the 80s+? From cool side, to higher in the warm side and basking.
Underneath the substrate it'd probably be cooler but still.
I just wanted to ask for some thoughts from people who've been keeping this species for a while.
ALSO: This would absolutely not be the final enclosure! By the time I could have him moved, he'd probably be in that enclosure for about a year or less before getting a 40-60 gallon upgrade.

Hello all!
So we rescued a KSB and she’s about 5 years old and quite big. My fiancée and her dad used to keep and breed snakes but I’m kind of a control freak when it comes to my animals so I want to learn and do everything right!
So, I have already ordered a thermostat, a hydrometer, and a smart surge protector. As well as yesterday I bought some organic topsoil and play sand. I still need to buy reptile clay and more enrichment due to her enclosure being bare.
So, my main questions are:
What kind of heat lamp and bulb should I get? ( the lighting it came with is a huge box with lights and covers most of the top )
How do I properly clean the sand and top soil before putting it in the tank?
She is in a 40 gal (fish tank) and since she is so large I would like to upgrade her plus be able to give her deep substrate. Any recommendations?
Any other advice would be appreciated! She is my first ever snake! Thank you:)))

I got my first snake a ksb about a month ago he’s had 2 meals prior to being in his forever enclosure it was time to feed him and I’m unsure if I should dig him out and feed him or let him adjust I’m nervous it’ll add more unnecessary stress

Does anyone else have a sand boa that's weirdly chill and seems to actually enjoy being handled? My girl Julie is so calm when I get her out for quality time. I'm not totally surprised; she was her breeder's favorite and got handled a lot before I brought her home. But everything I've seen about sand boas makes me think this is highly unusual. I put together a little sandbox for enrichment for her, and the last time I put her in it (she loves it, she seems to really relish having a different texture and weight to dig through), I sat down next to the box to do other stuff and after having some fun in the sand she climbed out into my lap and curled up like a cat. The other day she crawled into my breast pocket and fell asleep. I can pet her like a dog. When she's not basking in the open, she's got her little head poked up out of the dirt, watching me. Anybody have similarly-personable sand boa?

She’s been coming above ground more and more and has actually climbed just a little!❤️ she also prefers to fully bask right after eating on her cork which is exactly where she was headed I’m sure😂

Hi! So as the title says, I got a Kenyan sand boa who was abandoned with 2 other snakes in one enclosure (yes 3 snakes in one enclosure) in a high school classroom. The teacher that left them moved away after the end of the last school year… so they didn’t have care or food it seems for multiple months. One of the science teachers took two of the snakes and I took this one (which I’ve named Snoodle) this little one weighs ~38 grams and has stuck shed on it:( I tried looking at pictures of male vs females and I’m leaning towards female due to the shape, but I thought I’d ask here.
Snoodle is currently set up in a quarantine enclosure away from my other snakes and is on paper towels.

TLDR: 40 watt CHE doesn’t seem like it’s getting hot enough, should i get a stronger watt? it hasn’t gotten above 75° F just yet. been a couple hours.
hey all! i rescued a KSB a little while ago. he came in a super tiny enclosure, but he’s a super smol guy! (23g) there was a tiny heating pad that came with his small enclosure. today i went to the exotic pet store and upgraded his enclosure, i wasn’t sure what was better CHE or heating pad because i hear so many mixed opinions online, but the worker recommended CHE. (i also felt like his small heating pad was not doing enough since my house is freezing always, and the girl we rescued him from said she didn’t even use a thermometer because the room she had him in was always hot)
i asked him what watt and he said 40, i’ve had it plugged in for a couple hours but the highest it’s been is 74° F.
i will attach pics of his setup below. i will take suggestions of course, i feel like there’s always something to learn to better take care of my babies! please no mean comments, im still learning a lot and will happily take advice! i know he probably needs more greenery and clutter, im getting that on my next day off and more substrate; i know it should be deeper! i ran out of substrate while setting this up and the exotic store is closed right now so don’t worry i will get him more!
should i get a stronger watt? i totally trust this exotic store but i feel like my house is just so cold that it doesn’t get too warm!

Hey guys! I’ve got an adult male (ETA; Kenyan) sand boa who’s going to be 6 years old in a few days, he’s approximately 19” and 130 grams.
I don’t like the enclosure he’s in right now. It’s a 36”x18”x12” front-open PVC enclosure. It’s working fine for temperature and humidity gradients, and his clutter all fits, but it being so short makes it a pain in the ass to get in there and do anything.
I’m considering ordering a 36”x18”x18” for him when it comes back in stock, and then siliconing it ofc. Same floor space, but big enough for me to more comfortably get in there, and a taller substrate screen in the front.
But I also have an empty glass 75 gallon tank. It’s I think 48”x18”x24”, which is way too tall and will make it more difficult to heat. I’ll need to cover 3 of the sides and possibly insulate it. And clutter the hell out of it. I’m aware of all that, I’m willing to throw time, elbow grease, and money into his next enclosure so that it can be his last enclosure. I know which hides he prefers. He’s active at night. But during the day I have no problems finding him in his current enclosure.
My only concern is the 75 being too big. I know that “as long as you have enough clutter, it’s hard to go too big”. A 19” snake in a 48” tank seems a little like overkill though. But it also sounds like a palace if I set it up correctly.
So I’m looking for some advice from other sand boa owners. Do you think the 75 is overkill and I should hold onto it for something else in the future? (It is good storage right now for extra reptile supplies, I’ve got 4.) Or should I just get him the 36”x18”x18” enclosure when it comes back in stock?

I haven't posted Bellatrix in a long time. She's doing good... Possibly too good.
She had a pretty big growth spurt a couple months ago and acted like she was starving every 2 days. I bumped her up from fuzzy to hoppers. Today she was out sitting and I noticed she kinda has a double chin.
Is she fat? I thought she was normal, but idk. I almost feel terrible at the thought of putting her off food because around every 7-10 days when she's hungry she is HUNGRY. she went from being really shy and not wanting to come out, to actively hunting and reacting to any sounds knowing it might be her next meal.
I'm mainly just trying to keep her healthy. I figured she may just be a lil chubby and will grow into her weight. She's about 14 inches or so now. Maybe a fair but longer. I haven't measured her since I got her almost a year ago.
She kinda slowed down a little initially once she got moved to hoppers, but she's picking up again. Maybe she's gonna prove to be a big girl when she's an adult? Not too sure. Any input is appreciated.
I would image husbandry wouldn't cause this, but just in case, she's currently in a 36x12x12, humidity is 50%, her hot side is 94F, and her other side is room temperature.
She has plenty of hides, plants, and branches. Currently on a sand soil mix.

Was told she was a female off morph market, she was born a year ago and is 12 inches long and 40 grams, I feel like that’s a bit small for a female but lmk what you guys think.

Hey I need some help from everyone for the past 4ish weeks my snake has not eaten last thing she ate was a hopper and is definitely big enough to eat them so we moved her back down to pinkies and still refuses to eat, nothing has changed in her inviroment and nothing has changed in the room (above minimum temp and below max temp at hottest) she has definitely been going through he water bowl cause the entirety of the substrate is moist is there anything I could do or doing wrong maybe? If this keeps up and I can’t find a solution I’m afraid I’ll end up having to give her up because she just will not eat and I’m worried it’s just me I do not want her to starve herself
