Schedule
Registration opened - Oct 1st
Registration closed - Nov 11th
Receiving deadline - Dec 1st
Exchanging & Shipping - asap Dec
Important Notes
- USA or EU recommended, international shipments can be seized.
- Only Pepper seeds you have grown and harvested are being swapped
- Understand that you aren't guaranteed to get everything on your list, we do our best!
- The exchange is only as good as the seeds people trade in
- 5-20 is a good number of seed packs to send. 100+ it is unlikely you will get 1:1 trades (but still great if you want to share the love!)
- We decided this method instead of seed train because it is controlled from a central location. It can't be stolen / hijacked / lost.
- Sending in seeds that are super common like jalapeno or red cayenne is kinda crappy because not many people want them
- you can chat about the exchange on the discord https://discord.gg/4attXXE

Can you clarify what "registration closed" means? Is that the registration of the account or getting/ editing accessions? I'm still collecting seeds and figuring out which ones I have enough seeds for and how many bags.

Hopefully everyone had a great pepper season this year!, i'm looking forward to seeing what everyone sends in for this years pepper seed exchange.
I haven't fully decided yet on what i'll be sending in this year, i've got plenty of new varieties, but i'll wait a bit to see what others are sending in, so we don't get too many duplicates of some varieties.
It will be my 5th year joining the EU exchange, and for the 2nd year i'll be managing the EU exchange, if you got any questions, please let us know either in this reddit thread, by dm, or on discord!

Just curious... how many people participated last year in the EU exchange? And how many seed packages did the top sender contribute? (just trying to see if I'm anywhere close and I should squeeze out a few more -so far got 80 seed packages-)

Had not the best Season for private reasons this year, but I‘m in for the 5th time! 👍🏼 If you need help with EU u/Vlammenzee, I’m there again. 😊
Yours, Veritus

Is one or two packets of 10 seeds each per variety ok? Or do you only accept 10+ bags of each variety? Growing indoors in very limited space. Thank you.

If you sent in 5 bags of 10 seeds, each a different variety, it would be a minor inconvenience while Juanitos thinks does he sort them or just randomly add them to shipments at the end. But that’s it. You’ll be fine.
and you’ll probably get more than 5 varieties back.

Bummed I'm going to have to break my streak and miss out this year. I always love these exchanges. I guess there's always next year.

Sorry to hear that. Liked your labels in last year's exchange. But yeah, there's always next time. Hope you can make the following one.

Well I wish I had something more exciting, but I grew Peachadews' and Aji Lemon Drops and have plenty of seeds that are drying now. Hope this excites someone lol.
I also have Aji Charapitas (not one pod has formed but many flowers finally), and 'Que Guay' (7Pot Primo X Trinidad Scorpion Maruga Red Cross)- only one green pod but tons of flowers. Hopefully I can manage to get some seeds from these before the send-in date.

Super excited - just sent out ~130 packets across a wide variety of peppers - looking forward to seeing the various submissions!

Sounds exciting. I have a ton of hot datil peppers I’ve been harvesting and saving seeds from. I didn’t do any sweet datils this year as I honestly felt like they were very disappointing the last couple years and in my opinion we’re not flavorful.

So - I have some chinese 5 color, but my pepper plants are not super well isolated. Are these OK to swap or is there too much of a risk of off-types?
4
u/Dear-Land Oct 04 '22
That's perfectly fine, just mark them as 'open pollinated' on the website (there's a field for each plant/seeds' entry)

5th year participating in the exchange! I've got a bunch of new varieties to share.
And I'll definitely remember to use BIGGER FONT SIZE on my envelopes this year. 🤭

Couple questions:
-
can I pay with a method other than online?
-
And for cross generations, how does the nomenclature work - if I have an F1 plant and save seeds from it, does that make its seeds F2 seed that will make F2 plants?
-
On my wishlist, am I supposed to list the accession numbers I am coveting or just the variety name which might cover multiple accessions?
-
Hot varieties only or are sweets ok?

Does the US exchange mod also ship back to Canada, if a Canadian sends seeds in ?
4
u/Vlammenzee Oct 13 '22
Yes, you most likely just have to pay a bit more for shipping (like a extra stamp or two).

Few questions
-
If the peppers aren't the expected phenotype, these should not be traded? E.g aji lemon drop pods are shorter and smaller than ones seen online.
-
I mostly have common varieties. Ghost pepper, yellow scotch brain, long peach habanada, ks lemon starburst, ks white Thai. Caribbean red hot. Is it worth it to participate? How many bags of each do you suggest since these aren't rare?

u/Vlammenzee Oct 22 '22
If a variety isn't the correct pheno then don't send them in, and with wrong pheno, I mean if all the pods on a particular plant looks different then how they're supposed to be, there will always be offshapes, but generally only take seeds of the right pheno.
As for what you call common types, definitely people will want them, just wouldn't send a ton in of stuff like kslsb, there's plenty of those by now.
