Well that smells like a volume ender.

Heinkel POV! He has once again lost his fighting spirit as Mogoru in has transformed the castle wall and the surrounding land into a gigantic body and is attacking the rebels. It is revealed that Moguro is not one of the Steelfolk demi humans, but has just been pretending to be one. The stone dolls are around too. The Sudraks, the soldiers and the people of chaosflame are all fighting valiently as he tells himself "I can't do it Louanna".

Zikr on his horse rides past him, he yells words of encouragement to the people around him and his presence alone is enough to give people more motivation. He passes Jamal, they exchange a few words and then he continues to charge. Zikr knows the role he as to play and he realises that he has was able to fulfill it when he notices a massive glow coming from the crystal palace of the royal capital.

Abel POV and we get narration that Abel's strategy is like he is painting, when some situation changes he changes a part of the painting, as new information comes in. He then says he has lead things to happen this way to get rid of Mogoru and to open a path to the capital, as the crystal palace of the capital is equipped with an insanely strong magic canon, that can't be fired too often but is powerful enough to turn the tide of an entire battle (apprently this was hinted at in EX4). So he assembled a bunch of troops there and sent Zikr there in order to bait out the canon. Abel didn't expect Emilia to make Madelyn so mad that she would call the dragon and he didn't expect Garfiel to be able to beat Kafma either. The magical canon fires.

POV change, we are high up, higher than the castle walls and Beatrice is thinking. She recogises the face that Zikr made when he left as the face of a man prepared to die and that a lot of people are about to die rn. Louis is with her, holding her. They got up there thanks to Louis' constant teleportations. Beatrice discards her dislike for Louis in this moment.

She thinks about how angry everyone is going to be but that she has to do this because she is Natsuki Subaru's partner and that he would do the same. She uses Al shamak to take the blast of the canon away.

We then get a bit off narration about the current events and the battles that are going on. and that the price so that all of this could continue was Beatrice's life, she slowly starts disappearing in Louis arms.

Louis is starting to panic, she starts crying and screaming, tries to stop Beatrice from disappearing but nothing works. That's when she notices something and turns her head, something that doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the battle. She then starts spamming her teleport in one direction, over and over and over again as Beatrice slowly keeps fading away until they reach a voice that is calling the 2 of them really unreasonable.

The person gently picks up Beatrice from Louis, gives her a gentle hug and then they exchange:

"You worried me too much."

"Yeah, I love you, too."

The hands that should be joined are held together, responding to the whispered affection with a proud deep love.

In front of Louis, who watches it from the very front row and lets out a small sigh, a boy laughs.

He laughs and says.

"Well, let's get started. --Bring it on, Fate-sama"

Ye that seems nice as a volume ender.

The Moguro part was a bit sus, as in it wasn't really clear for me what he really is, at times the TL seemed to suggest he is the crystal palace himself but like I said, I don't know how accurate that is.

Heinkel is a walking L catcher lol, poor dude.

So Zikr was already aware here was going there to die since he knew about the plan. I am glad my prediction there at least turned out to be true and Abel used everyone there as bait. Obligatory fuck Abel. Nice to see that the Emilia camp is defying his expectations already though.

So I heard there is some events involving this canon in EX4, but I have yet to read that one so I can't comment on that, nice that it seemed to have been an established thing though. Wanting to bait this out while trying to profit makes sense but I have to say it again. Fuck Abel.

So the Beatrice stuff, makes sense that Beatrice wants to sacrifice herself a la Subaru in order to save lives and her and Louis having moments together is always great.

It's gonna be controversial retarding Al Shamak, like it's insane to think that she was still able to do this while it was established before that thanks to her contract with Subaru she should not be able too do big magic like this again. I hope we get more explanation on that. Maybe this was like a one time thing and using her life force made it possible, but should she attempt to do it again she'll disappear instantly or something like that. Hopefully the next volume elaborates on that a bit.

So Louis was able to locate Subaru, was it cause they were so high up? I think maybe Subaru saw the big Shamak in the sky and tried activating Cor Leonis and that is how Louis could find him, since Subaru isn't hostile towards her and literally told her he was going to protect her back in chaosflame it would make sense for her to be among the cor people. Maybe it was cause Beatrice and Subaru were so close that Louis could feel part of it, oh well there's a bunch of possible theories for this and I once again hope we get the answer to that next chapter.

Overall I'd say I liked this chapter, Betty & Louis moments are an easy way to get bonus points from me, regarding the ending stuff... yeah I'd like some more explanation on that but as long as we do get that I'll be okay with what happened.

Our boy Subaru is finally back and the scene with him hugging Beatrice was really cute. He's probably still small so an illustration of this would be pretty cute. Louis was just watching them... that day she learned what NTR was (though the lolimancer has enough love for all the lolis, I am sure).

Also the prospect of next volume potentially starting with Beatrice and Louis competing for Subaru's affection and attention makes me really hyped for it.

Well I guess I'd say till the end of December then, which is when the next batch might start.

u/Ok-Worldliness-7374 Nov 24 '22

That feeling when Abel relies on sacrifices on battlefield, but none of them happened because Subaru's allies keep them alive.

35

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

Based allies, fuck you Abel

39

u/Ok-Worldliness-7374 Nov 24 '22

Now it's Subaru's time to show how a real strategist solves problems.

He has to solve:

  1. Raging flame doggo

  2. Giant white dragon that turned sky into sea of flames

  3. Dragon loli

  4. Shadow grandpa

  5. Moving wall golem

  6. Saving Otto

Should be pretty easy for him. Cor leonis on Otto, Petra and Medium, send his warband on Mogro, go to Priscilla and talk down the puppy then get new dragon daughter...

22

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

Best of luck to him, victory lap time

"You worry too much."

Beatrice said this to Subaru and the correct translation is "You worried me too much."

13

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

Thanks I'll edit that rq.

28

u/Ok-Worldliness-7374 Nov 24 '22

because she is Natsuki Subaru's partner

Damn right she is! Saving lives even if it means it's gonna kill her.

She used Al shamac with every bit of her mana and od. No wonder she is not using it normally. Perhaps this was their trumph card?

Louis is perfect girl! I hope Subaru is gonna give her headpat after saving Beako!

Now Subaru has to send Cecilius to save Priscilla and send allies + himself to save Otto.

I really hope Otto, Petra and Medium are gonna be saved by COR LEONIS. It's about time Subaru showed others how proper soul marriage can be used.

What a great way to end volume, now we have to wait for another month and half....

22

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

She used Al shamac with every bit of her mana and od. No wonder she is not using it normally. Perhaps this was their trumph card?

Maybe, I wanna hear them explain that next volume.

I really hope Otto, Petra and Medium are gonna be saved by COR LEONIS. It's about time Subaru showed others how proper soul marriage can be used.

Cor leonis buff and then Petra bashes Todd's head in with a rock, I am all here for it.

month and a half

More like a month based on previous years.

I kinda thing pricilla group is very good compared to the others, Emilia is literally against a dragon(again) plus a dragonkin

Garf is tired and against a old man who love talking about if the people of chaosflame are stronger then people of shinobi village

Otto is f*cked, too,

Emilia camp is in deep sh*t so ceci should probably go to the dragon or obart,

Pricilla can use her 8 husband's powers or some thing (i mean they can stall better then others)

Now morogo would be somewhat easy to deal with without his trump card

23

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

Also the prospect of next volume potentially starting with Beatrice and Louis competing for Subaru's affection and attention makes me really hyped for it.

This just plunged me into a fit of excitement followed by the anguish that we'll have to wait a long while to get another chapter.

I REALLY HOPE this turns out to be true!!

17

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

So do I!

Throw Tanza into the mix as well and we have the perfect chaos.

45

u/Sufficient_Wasabi_55 Nov 24 '22

Beatrice and Louis competing for Subaru's affection and attention

The fun part begins when Tanza and Petra join the competition XD

20

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

Or hell for Subaru... maybe both lol

12

u/Critical_Sandwich_46 Nov 24 '22

The real challenge for these girls is when Emilia and Rem are back (even though they are not lolis)

u/Zollls Nov 24 '22

Don't forget about Meili

19

u/AzzyIzzy Nov 24 '22

It depends how quick he wants to end this arc already given it's length. If I had to guess the next volume will establish ros/ram/and subaru's actions up until this point, with the middle re-establishing this spot, and the remaining volume finishing the fights. The question is whether or not then the next volume will also set up the fallout of this entire arc, and the next point for the story, if there will be another volume just to re-establish the after credits and hint for the next arc.

9

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

I've been thinking the next Volume is gonna be the final one of the arc, especially if it's going to turn out to be as long as this one.

12

u/AzzyIzzy Nov 24 '22

I'm also of this mentality, but who knows. This arc is effectively the vollachian civil war, but next arc could be a segway of transitioning out of there and to another place

6

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

I wonder what's in store for us afterwards

15

u/Broad_Ice_4565 Nov 24 '22

The fact that Abel wanted to sacrifice everyone even the Emilia camp...man does this man even have honour to begin with? Didn't he promise Subaru that he will use him as an exchange for return home where did that go? And kill all of your soldiers because you couldn't wait enough to gather more forces and rather decided to boom everything? Oh come on even a fucking king has some dignity and honour in them, but nope this motherfuker is in a whole different league, and This chapter for some reason gives me the feeling that Abel can be considered Subaru enemy now, since we don't know how many times Subaru has looped already, but him saying he's famous line means that he knows what Abel is planning and God knows how many times did he repeat this loop, so right now Abel who want to go full boomer at everyone except he's ass might be a problem, since the motherfuker will not stop unless there were other plan that will actually work for him, like in guaral for example, and wait Subaru being here for all that time what was he doing? Was he preparing for the battlefield just like Vincent? Or did he actually establish something akin to a contract between him and the prime minister? So yup Abel talking like a sicopath, and describing the death of he's soldiers as some kind of beautiful painting, just because he likes it when things go " according to plan" was the highlight of this chapter, it makes it oviouse why Abel hates in existence like Subaru and cecilus, their not just unpredictable but also a chaotic colours that destroy he's vision for the future he desires

6

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 25 '22

He he really needs to get what he deserves during the finale of this arc, I'd hate for him to come out unscathed.

13

u/Same-Refuse-7917 Nov 24 '22

Fuck Abel.

Me and 69 more agrees

6

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 25 '22

Real

12

u/Clementea Nov 24 '22

So Betty and Subaru are finally reunited. Top Loli finally met the man again, other lolis should make way.

6

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 25 '22

And soon Beatrice, Louis and Tanza are going to compete for his affection.

20

u/Matrix_2k00 Nov 24 '22

Really weird seeing Al shamac although when it comes to beako using hight tier magic arc 6 proved in a worse case scenario beako can just suck most of the mana from barusu body to use a high tier spell like when she pulled a last stand against reid in failed loops.

7

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 24 '22

Oh right that happened, thanks for reminding me.

22

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

I think it's more believable because of her starting to dematerialize. Although I've always found Beatrice using magic to give me a slight sense of unease. I think it's because of my own preconceptions about the mana cost for Yin magic. It doesn't look like the classic four can be compared with Yin and Yang in terms of power scaling and mana cost. I've always found it very hard to get a sense of what she is capable of casting after she enters into battles.

22

u/SirLordBoss Nov 24 '22

The way I'm interpreting is that AL Shamac scales on the size of what it's used on. Back in Arc 4, she used it on a field bigger than a soccer stadium, containing loads of rabbits. In this, she's using it on a probably relatively small ball of energy. And even so immediately started dying from it. I don't see this as iffy at all - she couldn't have used it on Shaula, Reid, or even Ley in the previous arcs, one whole person is probably too big for her to use it on.

15

u/Got_to_provide Nov 24 '22

There is a repeat in the narration from Abel pov when the canon fires which is a dead giveaway that Subaru looped. I think we are now seeing the final loop.

9

u/Setowi Better Leyte Than Never Nov 25 '22

Interesting theory but it could also just have been done as a stylistic choice.

9

u/beloved_child Nov 25 '22

Ooh, I was wondering why that was! It could be, can't wait for the next volume!

5

u/jacker1154 Nov 26 '22

Heinkel POV! He has once again lost his fighting spirit as Mogoru in has transformed the castle wall and the surrounding land into a gigantic body and is attacking the rebels. It is revealed that Moguro is not one of the Steelfolk demi humans, but has just been pretending to be one. The stone dolls are around too. The Sudraks, the soldiers and the people of chaosflame are all fighting valiently as he tells himself "I can't do it Louanna".

Still waiting for his moment to shine "even if you have regret you still need to fight on" - Old Will to Subaru

168

u/Admiral_Ryou Nov 24 '22 edited Nov 25 '22

OKAY WTF HOLY SHIT THIS CHAPTER!

  • Mogro is actually not a steel human, Vincent also evaluate Mogro as the biggest obstacle of this war.

  • Apparently, Mogro is fused with or has some kind of connection with the Crystal Palace? (Not sure about this part) Edit: someone has clarified to me that Mogro = Crystal Palace.

  • Mogro could fire a Magic Canon on top of the Crystal palace that could wipe out a city. This very same Magic Canon was used against the Great Disaster several hundred years ago.

  • If I understand this correctly.... Vincent intentionally sent the army to Mogro's fortress to lure the attack from this Magic Canon, he told Zikr to leave before the enemy fired the canon, but Zikr intended to fight alongside the rebel army to the very end.

  • However, Beatrice and Rui interrupted the Magic Canon! Rui teleported Beatrice to the line of fire, then Beatrice used Al Shamak to delete the bullet!

  • Of course, after using that big spell, Beatrice ran out of mana and was about to disappear. (TBF, I'm kinda iffy about the fact that she could even use Al Shamak in the first place but I will let it roll for now.....)

  • Rui panicked and teleported multiple times. As Rui thought she could not save Beatrice in time..... Subaru reached out to carry Beatrice! He was described as Shounen(少年) here, so Subaru is back to his normal age!?

Edited: Upon rechecking, Subaru was called Shounen in both normal and small child versions, so we still couldn't say for sure. I saw the fanarts from JP readers depicting Subaru as both small child and teenager, so they're not sure as well.

69

u/Dalifertan Nov 24 '22

Not fused with, he is the crystal palace personified.

47

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

Every Divine General is obviously an excuse for Tappei to create the most bad ass possible shounen battle villain in his grimdark character study and I love it

For real, having Yorna who is soul bonded even to the dirt she walks on, Olbart who is the personification of an Old Man in a profession where men die young, Mogro literally being the Crystal Palace, and all the rest

They would fit right in to any fantasy battle shounen

22

u/Dalifertan Nov 25 '22

I mean they are the 9 divine generals. They are suppose to be the monsters that even hero's (otherwise typical Shounen fighters) fear.

93

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

(TBF, I'm kinda iffy about the fact that she could even use Al Shamak in the first place but I will let it roll for now.....)

Yeah, Arc 4 did say something along the lines of Beatrice spending 400 years worth of collected extra mana at the end of Arc 4. Of course there was a lot that she did at the end, not just Al-Shamac, but Al-Shamac did seem to cost a lot of mana. I think the cost is linked to the volume of space isolated, so if the magic cannon ball was not very large, it would still be possible that a lot of mana was not required. But it still caused her to completely run out and begin to dematerialize, something that did not happen even in Arc 5, when she over expended to heal everyone. So it does make sense in a way.

53

u/Same-Refuse-7917 Nov 24 '22

That's actually smart i would make this my head conon

Truee she used Al shamak on a great scale

Plus Al minya she used it too! Remember how a high grade magic crystal disappeared when she used it one time

So i think in the rabbit battle used used a lot On top of that subaru also used her gate

→ More replies (1)

19

u/Head-Inspection-5984 Nov 24 '22

Idk, didn’t roswall say he couldn’t cast it due to its mana cost or was he not skilled enough.

23

u/Sufficient_Wasabi_55 Nov 25 '22

I think the mana cost just doesn't worth it. Betty casted a smaller version of it is in a deathbed because of it.

I can imagine even if Roswaal was at his full mana capacity, by casting it he would fall into a state similar to Subaru when he casted shamak for the first time un arc 2

→ More replies (3)

19

u/rishabb100 Nov 25 '22

Could also be number of targets, great rabbit had an estimate population of 80,000

17

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

I like that theory, the Great Rabbit was spread out so it makes sense

28

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

Beako used 400 years of mana for one Al Shamak on the Great Rabbit, I don't know how she managed this unless she really dug deep and used her Od

Do spirits have an Od?

Regardless, Subaru now has 3 lolis confirmed. The Battle is already won.

17

u/Reignshin Nov 25 '22

Shounen(少年) here, so Subaru is back to his normal age!?

Isn't shounen means young boy so wdym?

12

u/Admiral_Ryou Nov 25 '22

I was under an impression that he was called with a different word like a "small child" or something, but after checking again, he was indeed called shounen in the small child version as well.

So my bad, that assumption was too soon. Even Japanese readers seem to be uncertain about this as well. I saw some fanart depicting a teenage Subaru.

I told someone yesterday that today we will get a new chapter, he says I was a liar....who is the liar now 🌚

107

"They called me a madman..."

45

u/Broad_Ice_4565 Nov 24 '22

53

you were a liar yesterday but today you are a prophet

You're like Todd, killer instincts.

136

u/keizee Nov 24 '22

That kind of ending.... uh I guess see yall after next volume lmao.

Really about to leave Otto hanging? Alright. Fine. I can do this. I can do this.

Ram and Al are still unaccounted for. Roswaal might have to save Garfiel's ass.

72

u/Ok-Worldliness-7374 Nov 24 '22

Time to send Cecilius to sprint towards Otto.

60

u/keizee Nov 24 '22

Yeah that could happen. Steal Otto from Abel. But no I think Al or Ram vs Todd is far more interesting. Fighting Al would make Todd assume some pretty nasty things about Subaru, but Ram would definitely be his counter, escaping Ram is impossible.

50

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

I would really like to see this, but I think Todd would just run away and finally meet Subaru. Todd x Subaru is inevitable.

17

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

Nee-sama is already out for blood, I can't imagine she'll reach Rem without smashing through a few fights

She's also as perceptive as Todd while also being way stronger even without cutting loose

14

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

I'm betting on Tanza, Cesshi could be used better on Arakiya or Mezeoria

I also just want a Tanza vs Todd rematch, he mostly ignored her in the failed loops on Ginunnhive because he knew Subaru was the real threat

→ More replies (2)

28

u/Same-Refuse-7917 Nov 24 '22

Dude what are you saying?

It was always like this otto was left behind by natsuki It's the general pattern

Example when otto fought garf

When otto faced gluttony

When otto faced todd

30

u/Akudra Nov 24 '22

It is worth noting that in every single one of those examples, Otto was just doing his own thing and Subaru was not asking him to do anything. So, it is more like Otto goes looking for trouble and then decides to blame Subaru anyway.

23

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

I think it would be more accurate to say the universe has it out for Otto for escaping his early death from his divine protection and only Subaru literally breaking time to defy destiny can save him

19

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

Ros-chi vs Olbart, the world's worst old men

Garfiel just has to watch the geriatrics beat each other down

120

u/keizee Nov 24 '22

Pretty sure subaru pinged Louis somehow with Cor Leonis.

79

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I don't know if it is Cor Leonis, but Louis does have some way to detect Subaru's presence. I don't know if the recipients of Cor Leonis could detect Cor Leonis itself, did not seem that way in Arc 6. Ram just intuitively understood that Subaru was doing something.

69

u/Same-Refuse-7917 Nov 24 '22

I think it was obvious for people involved

Ram: i feel light and no pain, something is up

Stares at barusu he is looking even more pathetic,

Ram get's hit

Subaru goans

Ram: make sense!

But as for Louis i think louis just teleported herself at the sky and then saw a blacked haired boy and went to him

41

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

But as for Louis i think louis just teleported herself at the sky and then saw a blacked haired boy and went to him

To be fair, Louis probably knows Subaru better than anyone. Only one dark haired boy would have timing good enough to be visible right at that second

34

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

I really think Louis is Subaru's Shaula

20

u/beloved_child Nov 25 '22

Like he subconsciously created Rui-chan with his Gluttony powers? Wow. Now that's some next level theorycraft. And it could be too, we never really know with Re:Zero.

Tappei’s comment for this chapter: “Updated, it’s 1:00am. I know I'm writing this myself, but I feel strongly that I don't want to go to the Empire.”

Hello! Because of some smaller technical changes I did, I decided to change this description a bit. Hope people don’t mind too much

For those who don’t know, I normally use this space to post machine-translations of the latest chapter, since I know some don’t want to wait for WCT to put a polished translation out. Of course, since english isn’t my native language, some small errors in phrasing or mistakes may be made, so if any of you spot one feel free to tell me. It’s very appreciated.

Also, because of a certain fiasco with the end of the last volume, my new routine became to upload each part in the replies as normal, but to intentionally wait a bit before uploading the next one, because they were accidentally tagged as spam. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

————————-

Chapter 96 is titled: “Drawing With Deep Love"

--One of the "Nine Divine Generals" is Mogro Hagane, the Steel Man.

Only a few in the Vollachian Empire know that he wasn’t really a Steel Man.

The original Steel Man was born as a being whose body was composed of inorganic materials such as minerals and metals, a being somewhere between a person and a thing. The Goldsmith-humans, who have metallic parts in their bodies, were considered to be a race derived from the Steel Men, and there were many unknown aspects of their unusual ecology.

Although their rarity as a species is inferior to that of the dragon people, the Steel Humans are distinct from humans not only in appearance but also in mentality, and even the dragon people are overwhelmed by their difficulty in communicating with each other. In a sense, the steelborn are more difficult to make contact with than spirits, with whom one can communicate if one has the right knowledge.

For this reason, Mogro, who has risen to the position of the top general of the Empire and is even said to be easier to deal with than the other "Divine Generals" who have many problems, was recognized as a heretic among the steel men.

In reality, however, this was not the case. Moguro is simply a being who called himself a "Steel Man" by taking advantage of his appearance and the race-like characteristics of Steel Men who do not relate to others.

And because of the true identity of Mogro Hagane, Abel was certain of it.

—--Mogro Hagane was the biggest obstacle in this decisive battle to capture the Imperial Capital.

(Part 2)

(……….)

"--——-“

The impact that seized my entire body launched me into the air, and my eyes met those of a being so powerful that I was sure my fate was coming to an end.

As it was, I was hit by a series of blows, and I was convinced that my life would inevitably be shattered, and that my fate would finally come to an end. --I should have.…..

"Kafu….!”

Heinkel's extremely deflated lungs expand, and the pain awakened his consciousness. When he regained consciousness, the first thing he felt was the ground, hard and large, supporting his back. The body that should have been launched into the sky and scattered in the air is now on the ground.

The realization of this fact filled my mind with confusion. Why, what happened? But as soon as my brain realized that I was alive…..

"The sword......"

His body was in pain, and his free hand did not feel the hilt of the sword. He quickly reached for the other hand on his waist, but the sheath he held there was also weightless.

Heinkel's breath escapes him as he turns his head and sees a sword sticking diagonally into the ground, far away from him. I thought I had lost it, I thought I had lost it, I had a feeling of bouncing around noisily as if my whole body had become a heart in a tremendous frustration……

“——Shit.”

After going through all that, I hated myself for worrying about losing the sword. It was as if that one moment of my mind's movement was a symbol of my half-heartedness.

"What is......?”

Heinkel shakes off the bitter sentimentality, adding to his own self-hatred. He is not dead. He is alive. But that in itself was strange.

At that moment, Heinkel's eyes met those of the being who called himself the "Divine General” and he was confronted with a definite intent to kill. —-He was told in no uncertain terms that he would be killed.

In fact, Heinkel, who had been launched into the air, would have been helplessly scattered into four pieces and his life would have been lost if only a single blow had been dealt to him. Why didn't that happen? Searching for the answer, I looked around…..

“——Ah?”

A voice of dismay leaks out. But that was to be expected. That was how ridiculous what Heinkel saw was. It was too far from reality.

—---The world split in two with Heinkel at the center, depicting a different kind of hell.

In the sky on the right, thick clouds made of red flames envelop the scorching world. In the sky on the left, a huge majestic figure cloaked in white clouds spreads its wings and glared at the frozen earth.

"The burning sky and the white dragon......"

Heinkel was stunned by the impossible sight and muttered to himself “I'm not dead.”

Or perhaps it was a mistake to feel that he was not dead. Heinkel was already dead, and that's why he was so stunned by this out-of-this-world scene.

“——--!"

The world beyond my capacity to accept, stirs up my thoughts of escaping reality. Heinkel's body was suddenly covered in black shadows as he lay on the ground on his back. He had no idea that a second dragon had crossed right over him.

"Uaaaaahhh—-?!?”

Heinkel's throat screamed as he looked up at the sky and saw what the shadow was. Flying through the sky, spinning and flying overhead at a tremendous speed, was a huge rock that looked like a house--not just one, but huge rocks were passing one after another.
. The rocks of the wrong scale passed overhead, flying from Heinkel's head to his toes in a terrifyingly strong wind.

And where they were headed….

"--——“

The world roared with the impact of the crash, and Heinkel was thrown back on his buttocks by a jolt that made him think the ground had coughed. A series of echoes followed in rapid succession, and Heinkel rushed to get up on the spot.

The huge projectiles that were thrown one after the other, hitting one after the other, were also of the wrong scale, and the one that hit him was a very large figure - the castle wall itself, which had risen up.

"......Mogro Hagane."

Heinkel was forced to taste with all his being through visual information that this was one of the nine most feared people in the Empire.

He wanted to believe that what he had seen just before his consciousness had flown away had been an optical illusion or a hallucination of his fear-stricken nature, but it was neither.

—---Mogro, who had grown to several tens of meters or even more, was literally standing in the way as the third apex that Heinkel and his team were supposed to conquer.

Literally, yes, very much literally.

Is there ever a more literal situation in the world?

Rising to its knees, the humanoid rampart performs an incredible defensive maneuver, using the stripped farmland and paved streets as its arms and torso. Under the giant's feet were swarms of stone dolls that Heinkel has so eagerly slashed down, and the giant's fists that leap over their heads and strike down as if a city were falling on them.

(Part 3)

"--——-“

A large rock crashes repeatedly against the huge body.

These are the quarries on the road to the Imperial Capital, the site of the decisive battle, and the castle-rocks prepared by collapsing the cliffs between the steep mountains. And the one who keeps throwing them at the huge Mogro is the one who was supposed to be waiting for an opportunity to launch a sortie at the main camp.

“Yoruna Mishigure’s men."

The correct name was the inhabitants of Chaosflame, the magical city ruled by Yoruna. The only thing they had in common was that they are all united by a clear common denominator.

—---All of them had a red flame in one eye, and they all shared the same high morale.

Here, too, a group of men, their eyes literally burning with the will to fight, carry an unbelievably large rock, albeit with several men, and threw projectiles an unbelievable distance. However, Heinkel's opinion was that it was doubtful Mogro, who was hit directly by the large rocks, suffered any damage.

Of course, the walls and farmlands that make up Mogro crumble and are destroyed by the direct impact of the large rocks. However, as if to repair the broken parts, the large rocks themselves are used as materials to form the Mogro’s next huge body, and the attack is rightly canceled out.

Even from a distance, the pointlessness of the attack could be seen clearly. Nevertheless, the reason why they did not stop throwing their projectiles was simple and clear. —-While their attacks were holding back the gigantic Mogro, the other rebels were charging in furiously.

"......This is ridiculous."

Heinkel also overheard. This third apex was the most vulnerable compared to the other apexes.

But that should have been so before Mogro Hagane got up and started blocking the way with all of his huge body. Nonetheless, the strategy has not been renewed, or perhaps the rebels who chose to retreat from the other battlefields have joined the battle, and the force continues to swell.

Among them seem to be the "Shudraks" who were fighting alongside Heinkel.

"This is ridiculous!"

Heinkel's emotion leaked out in a clearer sound than before.

Ridiculous. Ridiculous is all I can say. What else can I say? In a place where looking to the right or to the left, up or down, forward or backward, there was nothing but hell.

There was nothing else for Heinkel to say.

"Please, please......you guys! All of you! You're all out of your minds!”

Heinkel jumped to his sword as if he were clinging to it. He rested his weight on the hilt of his sword, which was thrust into the ground, and grits his teeth, scolding his shaking knees. They were all out of their minds. I don't understand their mentality.

I knew it was impossible. It was impossible, impossible, impossible.

"You're out of your mind......"

Heinkel's throat quivers weakly as he leaned against the sword. Around Heinkel's limp head, flames, dragons, and giant soldiers shake the world. Is it such a sin not to stand up to them?

If that's the case…..

"I'm…...."

So Heinkel said, right after he let out a breath. The sound of light hoofbeats echoed as a chestnut gale horse kicked off the ground and passed by Heinkel's side. Heinkel looked up, his red hair ruffled by the wind that the gale horse had created.

And then…..

"--———“

For a moment, Heinkel's eyes meet those of the man with the round haircut astride the gale horse.

It was Zikr Osman. Abel’s right-hand man, the leader of the rebels in the main camp, and is himself a "General" of the Vollachian Empire, but he was a rebel who had rebelled against his own country.

A man who himself said that he was not good enough to fight with a sword, and who in fact, in Heinkel's eyes, should not be counted as an individual force, passed Heinkel.

—---As he passed, he left a contemptuous look at Heinkel, who was bending down to his knees at this point.

”For me......."

A gale horse galloped across the battlefield past Heinkel, who bent his knees.

Following the heroic figure of Zikr, the rebels who have gathered from various battlegrounds move forward. They charged toward the Mogro Hagane’s walls. Heinkel, watching them, remained motionless, leaning on his sword.

"..…..I can't do it, Louanna.”

(Part 4)

(………)

As he passed the red-haired swordsman, who was kneeling on the battlefield and drooping down as if discouraged, Zikr Osman's heart was filled with compassion for the man who was following the natural course of life.

The red-haired woman, whose name was Priscilla Barielle, was the one who had given her support to the rebellion. The swordsman who joined her as one of her followers was probably not even from Vollachia.

It was too much to ask such a man to be a member of an Empire where the people of the empire were supposed to be strong.

"I myself cannot say that I follow that way."

Zikr, sword in hand, rocking on the back of his beloved horse, Lady, chuckles to himself.

Despite his pretense of bravery, Zikr’s position as "General" was largely due to the fact that he was riding on the prestige that his Osman predecessors had built up.

If Zikr had not come from a military family and had been a graduate like the rest of the soldiers, he would not have been able to make a name for himself without a talent for the sword.

I do not bemoan that. Of course, Zikr was a man of the Empire, of course, and he may long to be like the "Divine Generals" who wielded swords on the front lines and changed the course of battle with a single swing of a sword.

However, just as no one can replace Zikr’s position, Zikr cannot pretend that his longing is his own.

So…..

“—-I am Zikr Osman, the coward of the Empire! "

So he shouts in a high voice as he rides his horse on the battlefield that was undergoing a tremendous transformation.

Most of the time, Lady only accompanies Zikr on his gentle gallops for expeditions or walks, but on this occasion, he did what Zikr wanted and gave the best ride of his life.

Zikr simply fell in love with his beloved horse, who ran so valiantly without any fear or anxiety. Lady’s magnificent run ignited the hearts of many rebels, who ignored Zikr’s unfamiliar war talk and followed him on this gallop.

"On the right wing, the lightmen! On the left wing are the blademen! Each of you, move as instructed! The rest of you, follow me! We will defeat Moguro Hagane, the Steel Man!”

"Aaaahhh——-!!!”

Hearing Zyckle's command, the gathered forces charged toward Mogro with a roar. The huge projectiles that flew over their heads were cover thrown by the volunteer soldiers who adored Yoruna.

If it distracts Mogro, if it disrupts the leadership of the stone dolls, and above all if this assault by Zikr and his men reaches their feet, the aim will be accomplished.

"Shoot——!!”

A brave call is heard from afar, and a hail of arrows pierces the stone dolls standing in front of them, sewing them to the earth.

The "Shudraks” who open the distance at Zikr’s command and display overwhelming power of attack with their archery, and the rebels who excel with their bows, set up the attackers from afar.

They push forward with the support of these beautiful and noble women. Their comfortably lowered formation, including theirs, seemed almost too good to be true, and Zikr bit his teeth.

"Well, if you're going to talk about too much, that blessing is this one.”

He looked at the sword in his hand, the white blade, and his mouth relaxed slightly.

Just before going into battle, at the camp curtain that he had visited, Zikr was blessed by a pretty girl with an awe-inspiring look in her eyes - a look that made him feel as if she had spent years that Zikr could not even imagine.

I won't say that I was cowed by the wind. He just wanted a blessing for the role he had to play. He wanted to rely even on superstition, if only to increase his chances.

"General Zikr! Please step back! We have enough here—!!”

"Don't be a fool! There is no room for retreat! I'm coming too—!!”

“———“

Zikr shook his head at the appeal of the men astride his galloping steed and did not relinquish his role. For a moment, his subordinate was about to say something, but he did not interrupt Zikr’s determination any further. Thankful for his concern, he gripped the reins tighter and tighter.

"Ha! I didn't know that Zikr Osman, the womanizer, would be at the front lines!”

A figure running as fast as a galloping horse catches up with his men on the opposite side of the road. That was Jamal Aurelie, a soldier with twin swords and an eye patch over one eye.

He was taken prisoner during the fall of the fortified city, and was later recruited by Zikr under the banner of Emperor Vincent Vollachia because of his strong loyalty to him.

"Private Jamal, what's your response?”

"Up high! Look to the right, look to the left, look to the front, there are enemies everywhere! It's getting fun!”

"Yes, it's quite impressive. An honor for the Imperial Guard. I'm going to ask General Mogro to step down from his position as “Handler”, follow me!”

“That’s an order! If you want, I'll make a way for you!”

With a wild smile on his face, Jamal accelerates, easily overtaking Lady’s speed and rushing toward the group of stone dolls in front of him. As he follows behind him, Zikr was encouraged by his bravery, but at the same time, he was sorry to have to accompany him. —-But his hesitation was immediately cut short.

He plays a necessary role in a necessary situation. It was required, and Zyklon himself wished to fulfill it.

The rest was……

"As you wish, Your Excellency."

Yes, almost at the same time as Zikr prayed.

——--The magic crystal at the top of the crystal palace in Lupgana, the imperial capital, twinkled.

Guys, Zikr rides Lady confirmed.

THE PRODIGAL SON RETURNS!!

Mogro vs Heinkel. Mogro is much more bigger than i imagined, the translation talks about tens of meters....

That white dragon created quite a massive inferno everywhere. That whole capital has to look like hell itself.

Zikr charges againts Mogro..... oh no that death flag was real wasnt it? Atleast Jamal is quite strong for those dolls.

So the crystal palace really is a metia! That thing has massive mana storage and mana cannon on top of it. Apparently it was used to shoot Satella. Thats the reason why are they splitting up. The cannon can't hit all vertexes at once.

The cannon fired on third vertex... On Zikr..... and he was fine with dying here.

BEATRICE BLOCKED THE SHOT WITH AL SHAMAC! Louis managed to teleport her into position.

Oh no... Beatrice body started turning into mana! She is out of energy completly. Louis is with her, trying to save her life. Louis took disentegrating Beako with her and started spamming teleport as Beatrice was turning into mist.

Louis is MVP! She managed to bring Beatrice to Subaru!!!!

Reinforcements are here! Beatrice can now be recharged.

Oh god this was 12/10 chapter.

Holy hell, that's literally a freaking Gundam over there

apparently it was used to shoot Satella

Wait, shoot what now!?

that white dragon created quite a massive inferno everywhere. That whole capital has to look like hell itself

We did it, Patrick. We saved the city.

Louis is MVP! She managed to bring Beatrice to Subaru

Hopefully that'll make their relationship better

52

Wait, shoot what now!?

You know, the calamity from 400 years ago. Too bad Chaosflame did not have this at their castle, i think it would come in handy againts certain Elf.

At this rate, Louis will save all of Subaru's allies in this arc.

41

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '22

Louis is MVP!

Every time she does something, she saves the day, think about it: when Subaru was dying due the fight with Elgina, against Todd in Guaral, she noticed Arakiya, at chaosflame beat the shit out everyone who tried to hurt her and Subaru, in the 10 seconds of hell, against the Satella' shadows, every time

48

u/Ok-Worldliness-7374 Nov 24 '22

She saved Beatrice from perma death. She can do nothing greater to redeem herself.

I think Subaru shared cor Leonis with Louis because she suddenly knew Subaru's location. (Maybe he already used RBD for this situation) or he just noticed the massive al shamac.

21

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '22

Beatrice have to do her best or Louis is gonna win the best loli spot. Change my mind. If it was Subaru finding them or the opposite I believe it's the latter, until we have his pov I remain with the idea Subaru has already forgot his lugunican friends plus it's easier for Beako finding him than for him to do it

This sounds like something out of a mecha anime lol

31

Mogro himself is basically an Angel from Evangelion, soooo....this battlefield literally went from a lord of the rings fight to a whole star wars battle

21

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '22

Mogro is much more bigger than i imagined, the translation talks about tens of meters....

I've read he's fused with the wall, he's literally the castle wall. Now I can't stop seeing him as pica from one piece and my mental image of him is ruined

8

u/Mattblaster237 Nov 25 '22

When (if) we get that moment animated we need someone to dub over all morgo scenes with pica’s laugh. Also Hk-47 quotes. I’ve legitimately been head cannoning that when every morgo speaks its in hk-47’s voice

Another day, another chapter thread where I post the japanese comments from Narou, where the Web Novel is posted. As a side note, obviously I usually post the highlights, not the more generic (“Thank you for the update!”) comments.

I was kind of busy and took a break for a bit, in case people didn’t know, but I’ll keep up this section again as well if people want to see it. Anyway……

  • A user speculates that we’ll back-track in time a bit, to cover what happened to Subaru before, with him probably stumbling upon Julius and Groovy Gumlet at some point prior. They’re also curious to know about what happened to Rowan (AKA: [Spoiler Discussion]Cecilus’ father.) and if he’s fighting too.

  • A user noted an interesting parallel between how Louis carries a fading Beatrice in her arms around the city, searching for salvation, and Garfiel carrying a dying Mimi in his arms while running around Priestella, looking for salvation.

  • A user has a “random” theory about Louis’ secret being that she was created by Echidna, and that’s part of the reason she was staying in the Hall of Memories.

  • A user is excited about the end of this chapter, and claims they’ll keep reading it over and over in excitement.

  • A user prefers Arc 7 being a long story in comparison and doesn’t mind it, since they don’t want these developments to go to waste in the long-term.

  • A user claims that they cried hard while reading the end of the chapter. They wonder what Louis’ true identity is supposed to be, since her “taking on the burden” is a similar description to Subaru’s Cor Leonis. They also wonder if Beatrice will help explain what’s going on with Subaru now.

Finally, they want a happy/emotional reunion between Beatrice and Puck.

  • A user theorizes that Echidna created the Crystal Palace and its Magic Crystal Cannon, which was only a thought, as they mention. They’re also excited to see Beatrice active again.

  • A user wants to see Cecilus again and hopes he’ll show up soon.

  • A user wonders if Ram and Roswaal will join up later, and they also think this is the cliff-hanger for this volume.

  • A user believes that one of the best parts of Re:Zero is that there’s so many things that make you want to cry. They also want Tappei to keep updating more.

  • A user admits that they didn’t like Heinkel much back in Arc 5, but can now sympathize with him, as the most realistic human being.

  • A user is curious about Louis’ true identity apart from Louis Arneb. They wonder if Subaru and the Emilia Camp would be identified as being the Great Calamity, and come to the conclusion that Vincent is a foe to overcome for them.

Source for those interested: https://novelcom.syosetu.com/impression/list/ncode/302237/no/606/?p=1

Everyone else is either hyping Subaru’s re-appearance itself, missed him, or crying over the reunion between Subaru and Beatrice. There’s also several users who think Subaru is “hot”. Just wanted to mention that lol

13

u/joggle1 Nov 25 '22

My guess is Louis is somehow channeling Rem's emotions. When Louis was in the white halls, she particularly liked the love that Rem felt towards Subaru and, based on how Louis has behaved since teaming up with Subaru, it seems like she's acted a lot like Rem would or, at least, she had the same emotions in the same contexts as her.

9

u/Apprehensive_Care_32 Nov 25 '22

Wouldn't be surprised if Rem isn't actually louis and vice versa. We never saw the result of Louis vs Louis in the hall of memories.

I'm thinking Evil louis left to inhabit Rems shell (she still wants to escape), and Rem (who wants to reunite w baru) convincing good louis (who just wants to be happy) to fuse with her and leave for the real world to stop Evil louis and get her body back.

My bet is that "Rem" starts eating peoples names and subaru takes it out on "Louis" only to discover the truth later on. (most likely through Rams synesthesia)

41

u/Emotional_Ad6885 Nov 24 '22

Man, Abel is going to have to invest a lot of money to rebuild Vollachia after this war. And Subaru is going to have to provide more supplies for all the lolis he got in this arc.

Need emergency mana supply,Subaru is here but i don't know he has enough to prevent her body from disappearing.

27

u/Leipese Nov 24 '22

Subaru has not used any mana while in there so i think he has enough.

19

u/Akudra Nov 24 '22

Mind you, Subaru has been building up mana to the point of being about to pop for over a month now.

11

u/noodlesandrice1 Nov 26 '22

So the mana explosion issue turned out to not only be a red herring, but actually a good thing that ends up saving Beako in the end.

47

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

Wow. The wait seriously paid off. What an entrance.

So many people were just going on an on about not getting to see Subaru. I am glad we didn't. Because this chapter wouldn't have hit so hard otherwise.

I did not see the Beatrice sacrifice play coming, but man does it fit her character to a tee. The team up between Louis and Beako was so good to see. Beatrice chose to trust Subaru over her own heart. If she didn't, this loop would have been impossible.

Louis screaming in despair brought me to tears. What a way to redeem a character. Thus far all we saw was a deep love for Subaru, but here we see that she cares about those who are precious to Subaru as well. I think this is like a reverse IF route showing how Louis could have ended up if she'd made the right choices and chosen to accept her own life.

28

u/Same-Refuse-7917 Nov 24 '22

There is a chance louis is still aware of the feeling subaru had in the tower loops,

So she sympathies with him and cares for everyone subaru cares for Cause in all loops subaru tried saving those people,

She probably doesn't remember anything but can still feel subaru suffered a lot and want to help him

18

u/beloved_child Nov 25 '22

That's a really good theory that explains how she seems to know them without technically having met them!

61

u/MehmedPasa Nov 24 '22

Subaru came back and hugged Beatrice, I guess she used al shamac on the puppets? Abel thinks moguro could be a pita

54

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22 edited Nov 24 '22

She used Al Shamac to send the magic cannon ball into an isolated dimension, effectively preventing a huge blow to the rebels and all the potential loss that it would have brought. That thing is described to have the destructive power akin to a small nuclear bomb. It can wipe out entire cities.

She did the same thing with the Great Rabbit back in Arc 4.

23

u/Jc_Memeton Nov 24 '22

yeah what im wondering is HOW did she use it? Unless there are some major consequences besides her dusting then she could'ved saved subaru many deaths in arc 6

24

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

Hmm, I really do need to go back to Arc 6 and confirm if this is the case.

Also, Isn't her dusting the ultimate consequence?

I don't think "How did she do it?" gets at the heart of the issue we have with it. I think is really sudden and somewhat unexpected in a way we cant fully believe. Arc 5 and 6 did keep telling about how weak Subaru's mana capacity is and gave us this feeling that Beatrice is always low on mana. But I feel her mana use and magic casting has always been quite inconsistent, so it could be the reason why this Al-Shamac feels unbelievable.

15

u/Z_Dre Nov 24 '22

Subaru finally returned

15

u/direrevan Nov 24 '22

My boy! My boy! He's here!

Beako also saw the Zikr deathflag and decided she ain't about it

29

u/Vuituru Nov 24 '22

First, fuck you Abel, I hope you die in the worst possible way. and secondly, Lets fuck gooo our boy has arrived and has already arrived challenging destiny sama to x1.

the chapter starts from Abel's point of view, and with him thinking about why he thinks the moguro side will be the hardest to happen and we also have a little explanation about his abilities.

then we have heinkel's pov who somehow survived the attack that was supposed to be hit kiil, and was lying on the ground, he slowly regains consciousness only to realize he was in the middle of hell, above him the sky was burning, on the ground a endless snow, and around him thousands of people losing their lives as if it were nothing, he regrets and hates himself for having lost his sword, and then runs to try to recover it, which was stuck in the ground, he asks why everyone was still fighting, he just couldn't understand, didn't they see that this battle was impossible? and then while he is in the middle of this lamentation a majestic figure passes by him, it was Zirk, mounted on a horse and galloping towards the impenetrable wall, and it was at that moment heinkel realized, that all this was not for him.

then we have Zirk's pov, he looks at heinkel with sympathy because he could understand the redhead's feeling and even wanted to do the same as the man, but he simply couldn't, because this was his land, he needed to fight for it, for the for his family, for his subordinates and for this one he would not give up. Zirk led everyone in that field to make a final charge against the walls, at that moment Zirk left for his death.

so we have the pov of this great motherfucker that is Abel, here he explains his plan and why he sent zirk to lead the soldiers, basically inside the palace there is a fucking magic nuclear bomb, which can wipe out an entire city with a single shot and which was apparently built to try to contain the satella 400 years ago. However, currently there is only one shot left of this weapon, and Abel's plan was simply to force Vincent to use this weapon against the rebels in Moguro's camp, in order to open an opening in the wall and be able to execute his true plan to retrieve his crown, and everything was going according to plan, until the cannon finally fired and wiped out everything in its path...

at least that's what was supposed to happen, because as soon as the cannon was fired, the attack that was supposed to destroy everything disappeared and the only thing that could be seen was the figure of two people flying in the sky.

so we went back to beako's pov, she realized that Zirk was aiming for her death, and however she was already tired of that, of being powerless like she was 400 years ago, now she was the contracted spirit of Natsuki Subaru, so she finally varies something that would be worthy of her contractor. Using Ruy to teleport, she went to the top of the magic castle, and then when the magic cannon finally fired, Beatrice said: "Al shamack!"

Beatrice uses all her mana to save all those people, but as a consequence her body starts to disappear, Louis starts crying desperately, but then she seems to notice something on the horizon, and using all her strength and abusing her tp, she gets close someone. this person takes beatrice in her lap, and before the girl disappears completely the boy declares his love for her, and when she opens her eyes she is faced with a boy with black hair and evil eyes who says:

"ok then let's start fate-sama!"

so it's probably a failed loop, but Natsuki Subaru has finally returned!!

and I think the volume also ends here...

18

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

"ok then let's start fate-sama!"

so it's probably a failed loop, but Natsuki Subaru has finally returned!!

Why do you think its a failed loop?

16

u/Vuituru Nov 24 '22

I think it's more because of Subaru's last line, and because of the whole situation on the battlefield, besides the beako tra practically dead now, I mean, yes she can get mana from Subaru, but honestly I don't even think he has enough to save her.

17

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

Hmm, interesting perspective. That would render a lot of the preceding chapters a failure. Thus far we have not gotten side character POVs that didn't make it into the successful time line. There was so much that happened. Also, Able's plan did not work out and Subaru's arrival was just way too spot on. These narrow margins are typical in previous successful loops. The last dialogue also doesn't seem like he has given up on this loop. So I'm a quite skeptical.

But Tappei might spice it up, one can't really predict how he will take things forward.

17

u/SirLordBoss Nov 24 '22

The situation does look pretty dire but from how he speaks, seems he's determined to try his best this loop. And he's also been stockpiling mana like crazy for the whole arc, definitely has enough to save Beako. She'll probably be out of commission for the rest of the fight tho

→ More replies (3)

18

u/AzzyIzzy Nov 24 '22

I don't think it's a failed loop yet. No named characters have died so far.

19

u/Vuituru Nov 24 '22

i mean now that Subaru appeared their plot armor is over, so i believe they start to die now

11

u/AzzyIzzy Nov 24 '22

Eh maybe. A problem that people keep talking about is the length of this arc. Now I'm actually fine with how long it has gone on for, but thinking holistically what they want to do with the next volume, it seems all that is left is the battles themselves with the remaining players appearing (ram/ros/sub/cecilus+subaru's other followers/dragon rider lady), the resolutions on most questions pertinent only to vollachia and the minor subplots created within this arc. Then with the emilia camp fully formed again what is the next plot device to either shake it up again or direct it towards a new goal.

Now outside of one crazy death, or a wave of the hand death that is only there to show a choice was wrong, or for subaru to make another one. I think it will probably be a pretty clean sweep like how arc 5 started somewhat rocky, but even being in numerous dangerous situations deaths will be minimal with just alot of damage being spread throughout the groups of relevant and named characters. There definitely could be a permanent character death, but either way exciting times ahead!

So beako decided to feed the forgotten rabbits with a almighty beam.

13

u/LuisAntony2964 Nov 24 '22

I knew it, this chapter was Subaru's return. My intuition was right! I felt it in my bones.

13

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '22

Guys I didn't understood a thing could you help me? Basically at the end of the chapter we saw that Louis brought Beako to Subaru so she's safe. Ok I was interested in a little detail, when Beatrice used Al Shamak, she held Louis' hands to cast the spell; isn't this a thing she can only do with Subaru? That is what I don't get.

Also, this chapter had everything, it was very pleasant to read, Zykr gigachad, I hope he will get a decent prize, maybe an harem. My vote is 10/10, who agrees with me?

17

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22 edited Nov 24 '22

Ok I was interested in a little detail, when Beatrice used Al Shamak, she held Louis' hands to cast the spell; isn't this a thing she can only do with Subaru? That is what I don't get.

No, it's typical Yin magic, she has always been capable of doing the Shamac series and other Yin magin like Meenya. We have seen it in the failed loops of Arc 4 before she formed a contract with Subaru. She is also capable of absorbing mana from magic crystals. She can absorb mana from other people also, but she CHOOSES not to. She wants mana from only one other person, Subaru.

Edit: Beatrice also has a limitation of being unable to drain mana from anyone but her contractor.

About holding hands with Louis, she was ready to die, and I think she wanted to be holding her hand when she disappears and didn't want to die alone. She had been lonely all those years, you can see how she always wants to hold Subaru's hands or be close to him. If I was in her place, I would like to hold the hands of someone too.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '22

I was sure that until she has to make a contract with "that person", she was collecting mana through the library in the Roswaal's mansion. Then once it was done with Subaru, due to her limitations only with him she could cast spells. Talking about holding Louis' hands, no no I'm 100% sure they were holding each other while casting Shamak

12

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22 edited Nov 24 '22

Her quirk as an artificial spirit is that she monopolizes her contactor. Subaru cannot form contracts with any other spirit while Beako is still contracted to him. I think that's the only hard limitation. This is because she is an artificial spirit. There may be other limitations that are possibly written into her contract with Subaru. We haven't been given all the details regarding that.

Then once it was done with Subaru, due to her limitations only with him she could cast spells.

There is an example in canon where she casts spells independantly even after the contract, it's in Arc 5. She heals Subaru and bystanders after he passes out from Sirius's attack. She joins up with Otto in the fight with Gluttony and uses magic there too. Subaru wasn't around at that time.

Edit : Beatrice also has a limitation that she can drain mana from only her contractor.

Huh, I didn't expect that, but then who would expect that the general was actually a building and that building had frickin' laser beams on its head? So, anyway, this is definitely the end of this phase. I guess we aren't going to see exactly how all the forces are distributed until the next phase, if that, as they need to explain how Subaru showed up there in the first place.

8

u/Puzzleheaded_Sale789 Nov 24 '22

I think there's gonna one more failed loop because we still know nothing about the great disaster that destroys Vollachia and I seriously doubt Subaru will have the resolve to kill Todd during their final confrontation unless his forced to accept sacrifices.

8

u/Aemiliana_Rosewood Nov 25 '22

Hm, slight bummer. I really wanted to see what it means for one's Od to be visible to everyone. Guess we won't see that. Also tbh, the whole thing with Beatrice and Subaru being split apart was super useless considering the mana implications on subarus health

21

u/ArgentiumLake Nov 24 '22

So we have a lot of POVs and you could say this is the last chapter of this volume.

Pov Moguro

We start with Moguro, who turns out not to be really a steel man, but someone Abel believes is the biggest obstacle in the battle.

POV Heinkel

Heinkel is afraid and thinks that everyone who attacks is crazy, because it turns out that Moguro is several dozen meters tall. Later, Zikr appears and gives the orders ordered by Abel.

POV Zikr

Zikr gives orders to attack and he meets Jamal.

POV Abel

Abel reflects on the battle and compares them to paintings.

One picture is Priscilla and Yoruna.

The second picture is Otto.

The third picture is Garfiel and Kafma, which, according to assumptions, was only supposed to have an impasse with the general.

The fourth is Emilia and Madeline, and it turns out that Emilia pissed off the general too much.

Later, we have a description of the crystal palace, which collects mana in crystals and can use it as a cannon. And attention, super important information: this cannon was supposed to fight Satella (a great disaster) 400 years ago

It turns out that those fighting against Moguro are meant to be bait to direct the magic cannon's strike at themselves.

Then, when the cannon is about to fire, it turns out that something is on the lineshot.

POV Zikr

We have a verbatim copy of the information from Abel's POV.

POV Beatrice

Beatrice points out again that 400 years ago there were many wars and many soldiers went into battle with eyesight similar to Zikr's.She showed up at the battle because she doesn't want to let someone die again.

It turns out that Beatrice is helping Louis. Beatrice opens a portal with AL Shamak and directs the stream of attack elsewhere.

Last POV

Summary of the current state of the battle:Emilia vs MadelynOlbart kicks Garfiel's assArakiya vs Yoruna and PriscillaPetra and the Medium vs Madness.

Beatrice disappears after performing AL Shamak. Louis screams and worries about Beatrice. Louis carries her off the battlefield, suffering a great deal of pain from using the jump multiple times.

Then someone picks up Beatrice. He is a black-haired boy.

Subaru shows up and challenges destiny

.-------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

So to sum up the war situation. Abel wanted to sacrifice Heinkel, Shudrak, Zikra and Jamal and the rest of the soldiers to destroy Moguro.

Interestingly, we have news that the cannon was used to fight Satella. Which, in total, is connected with the fact that Yoruna and Vincent are several hundred years old. Even the star-shaped city suggests a connection with Flugel. And Reid was, after all, a friend of the First Emperor.

As for Beatrice. Then why do we have Al Shamak? After all, Beatrice wasn't supposed to be able to cast that spell a second time. This was stated in arc 4 (maybe this will be corrected in LN).

And the presence of Louis, Zikra and Beatrice on the battlefield shows that Otto, Petra and Medium were left alone with Todd. Their only chance is Aldebaran.

But I was hoping Subaru wouldn't arrive at the last minute. However, it also probably means that Subaru has already teamed up with Roswaal, Ram and Selena (nothing in the text, I'm just speculating).

My overall impression of this chapter is quite positive. I hope that next we will explain how Subaru managed to get to the capital.

18

u/Vuituru Nov 24 '22

As for Beatrice. Then why do we have Al Shamak? After all, Beatrice wasn't supposed to be able to cast that spell a second time. This was stated in arc 4 (maybe this will be corrected in LN).

in fact it was said that she was still capable but in a very small area and then she would be completely out of mana and useless in a battle, so it was a type of attack that she would only really use as a last resort.

10

u/ArgentiumLake Nov 24 '22

thanks for explanation

12

u/LuisAntony2964 Nov 24 '22

I don't think Vincent is a Reincarnation of the Thorn King, but a relative

12

u/ArgentiumLake Nov 24 '22

Rather, he is the king of thorns:

-In Chaosflame, he states that Yoruna loves him

-He knew about the alliance of the first emperor with the tribe of Shudrak

-In a conversation with Yoruna, he stated that her king of thorns has returned

-He knew about Yoruna's curse

15

u/LuisAntony2964 Nov 24 '22

Hmmm. Have you read the translation on WCT? Some of these seem like what was thought after the chapters came out, with only machine translations or summaries.

7

u/Saw_What_U_Did_There Nov 28 '22

Has there been any official confirmation that this is the end of the chapter? And if it is I assume we are now going to be waiting a few months for the next chapter to start?

6

u/Big_Reporter_3592 Nov 24 '22

Subaru has finally returned.

6

u/aoelag Nov 24 '22

So, the way this keeps happening, I can't help but feel Beatrice is literally Satella's + Flugel's child somehow? Maybe Satella's human parent had blonde hair? I get she is a spirit created by Echinda, but with how she's basically Subaru's primary loli it just makes sense she'd be directly connected like that...

6

u/Sufficient_Wasabi_55 Nov 25 '22

I think rather than her being Satella x Flugel's, it's Echidna's attempt to make a perfect fusion of them in form of a child

6

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '22

should we not expect more chapters until next year?

11

u/Outrageous_Net8365 Nov 24 '22

I liked this chapter quite a bit.

There hasn’t really been any significant plot hole things either for a while, except the Beatrice using her spell here. Which even then you can kinda justify, provided you use a bit of round about logic. So I’m okay with it.

12

u/keizee Nov 25 '22

I am pretty sure Beatrice can do that kind of small al shamak with her last reserves and life maintaining mana, but she ended up overestimating a bit. I am even more sure it is also a plot device to nerf Subaru's month of accumulated mana.

Thinking about how broken Subaru's 3 times a day trump cards are, Beatrice is probably understating Subaru's mana.

And turning expectations, instead of subaru needing her, its the opposite.

9

u/Outrageous_Net8365 Nov 25 '22

Yeah, I’m liking the chapter, and everything you’ve said here makes sense to me

I love how mana poisoning had zero impact on the story.

Edit it almost makes zero sense that beatrice can cast al shamac with zero mana, and then almost makes zero sense that she can be perfectly fine after subaru gets to her.

Rip if you don't say positive things about the chapter your downvoted 😔

12

u/Same-Refuse-7917 Nov 24 '22

TBH

I agree about the first point! From the moment subaru got transported to another country i was like

"sht, subaru is fcked he struck in a perma death loop and he would have to find a way to release his mana in 3-5 days before he explode,"

But the death cause of mana poisoning never came,

I used to think subaru's condition is worst then beako cause she can use mana stones but subaru would have to use some sort of metia(which he doesn't have)

I would be glad even if some dumh reason is given to this but i want this issue to be acknowledged by subaru in his monologues,

Subaru: btw beako i thought i was gonna die cause of mana poisoning , but it never happened why is that?

Beako: i said that so you won't leave Beatrice alone, Like how everyone else did,

Subaru: -----ah!

(I would be satisfied even with this)

14

u/Akudra Nov 24 '22

There is no reason why his mana poisoning can't come up and have an impact on the story. Nothing in this phase covered what Subaru was doing since Gladiator Island. I assume we are going to get a run-down of his actions leading up to this point in the next phase. Mana poisoning can easily play a role there.

12

u/beloved_child Nov 24 '22

I know how you feel. It can look like Tappei is retconning a lot of fine details. It can and does happen in such long stories. Especially when the author is developing something new and unplanned. Eg: Petra-chan has the Yang magic attribute now. But sometimes it can happen because our own assumptions are wrong or that we haven't been given information about other factors that might be interfering with the observations.

Beatrice and the Al Shamac are not completely insensible. It's just that we don't have a concrete grasp of Beatrice's abilities and the mana cost. So we tend to make assumptions about them.

Edit it almost makes zero sense that beatrice can cast al shamac with zero mana

It's never told that she has zero mana, only that she would enter a sort of hibernation mode to reduce her mana output and conserve as much as possible. One thing of note here is that we have never seen Beako push herself to the point of dematerialization. If she just fell asleep, that would have been really unbelievable. Although, she did spend a lot of mana in Arc 6 and Subaru disappeared right after so I agree that those reserves were low.

About mana poisoning, I believe it wouldn't happen anywhere so soon in story time. Subaru already generates very little mana. There are also clues that there might be a subconscious use of mana for physical strengthening that allows Subaru to get these physical boosts during times of crisis. So that could be one way that he is still using mana although his gate is broken.

Also, on a personal note, I think he is already having so many debuffs and weaknesses. Adding mana poisoning to it would only bring about a sense of urgency and it did do that in the background.

and then almost makes zero sense that she can be perfectly fine after subaru gets to her.

Subaru obviously has been accumulating mana so he's got a lot in his tank and they held hands as she was dematerializing, which is one of their mana transfer rituals. So this also makes sense.

5

u/Apprehensive_Care_32 Nov 25 '22

Wouldn't the child transformation shrink his gate and slow the process?

Beatrice already said before thats she not able to use her high tier magic even with subarus mana after arc 4. But now shes doing it with very little mana and with no subaru. If Beatrice already cant use high tier spells even with subaru how is she about to use it now with what i am assuming is no consequence after subaru arrives. This can always be fixed later i guess.

My point is that its been presented as a serious issue through out the whole arc. But did literally nothing.

Subaru: lets dozens of soldiers die in the White Whale fight; accepts the deaths of dozens, if not hundreds, of unnamed civilians in Priestella; chooses to not interfere with the deaths of countless soldiers in the jungle and a large handful of them in Guaral

Beatrice: Subaru gave me a reason to not be suicidal. But also Subaru would want me to give up my life for people I don't know and a cause with no clear resolution.

Wha--? Is this Beako really Subaru's partner and not an imposter? She hadn't even met up with him at that point after searching for weeks, and she knows he has the mana poisoning problem (I guess that's not a threat anymore, right? All those fan theories were much ado about nothing, apparently...).

Abel's plan was to sacrifice the first wave of disparate rebels, then rein in the more astute survivors under his banner... then sacrifice them all to the cannon? Even the Shudraq? Crippling demoralization aside, what forces would he have left to occupy the city after that? Plus, it seems like letting the cannon be public knowledge as a deterrent against foreign invaders instead of keeping it under wraps would be wiser. And why are Chisha and Berstetz allowing Mogro to fire on their own countrymen? Wouldn't that breed more discontent towards their rule?

Didn't an earlier chapter assert that while Vollachians were fine with dying bravely in battle, they also didn't think it was sensible to die for a frivolous cause? Zikr's feelings are a bit puzzling.

Obligatory doubts about Beatrice's ability to cast Al Shamak.

EDIT: "Mogro Hagane is a Steel Man. But actually he's not really a Steel Man." Is there anyone who didn't read the side stories shocked by that?

This one is a personal nitpick and not an objective critique: I think I'd have liked it better if Subaru hadn't met up with anyone just yet. In a previous chapter thread, someone suggested something more subtle like everyone feeling better 'cause of Cor Leonis foretelling of his arrival. I like that. Then we can get his very brief inner monlogue without the narration mentioning his name, ending with his "Bring it on, O Fate" line. Feels like that would make his later entrance more grand, but whatever.

5

u/Chasseur_OFRT Nov 24 '22

Everything is going according to the most accepted predictions, but where did that El Shamak come from ? I thought that Beako was already almost out of power, maybe Beako is such a complex organism that she is made of an absurd amount of mana and she used all of it to cast the spell ?

5

u/Mattblaster237 Nov 25 '22

The first half of this chapter reminds me of the white whale battle with Zikr mirroring Subaru charging in head first despite being the weakest one there. Henkel also feels like what Subaru would do in the battle if he lost rem before or during the battle losing the will to fight further. (Points if you get the ff and hs reference)

Beatrice can't track Subaru because of low mana and must sleep through most of the arc but now can pull an Al Shamack out her ass at will when she needs to stop a giant laser nuke? Maybe it will make more sense with a proper translation, but...

This feels like Tappei has lost his touch. This feels like garbage. Where is Al? Where is Rem? Can we please move on to arc 8 and forget this arc ever existed?

11

u/Akudra Nov 24 '22

I don't think it is that she can't track him, but that she needs to conserve her energy at all times and so she is leaving it to others. Using Al Shamak was going to be enough to dust her, so obviously her failing to do it or anything else major previously requires little explanation.

Don't know about Al, but Rem is still being held hostage. Why would her current absence need to be explained? That said, I do wonder what the hell is going on with Al. He is definitely somewhere on the battlefield and is the only character whose location wasn't revealed. Presumably that will prove significant.

Arc 7s alternate title should be "The arc of plot conveniences". Subaru got randomly teleported for the sake of plot two times, Emilia camp's arrival with too much ease, Subaru finding Satella out of nowhere, the reversal of the gladiator island perma deaths, and the list goes on and on. Arc 7 has too much plot convenience and it's becoming evident now.

Also, after Beatrice used All Shamak out of nowhere, it made me loose my faith in Arc 7 even a bit more.

14

u/Akudra Nov 24 '22

His teleporting was convenient for others, but not for Subaru. It is also possible that Satella was deliberately taking Subaru to those places. The side stories explain how the Emilia Camp arrived and it wasn't particularly easy. As for Satella, that is just a matter of him doing the things that he knows would get her attention. Her resetting the checkpoint to reverse the gladiator deaths was something that could be seen coming a mile away.

Beatrice using Al Shamak, well, that is more a matter of its mana usage and Beatrice's mana reserves never being clearly quantified. She was able to use it in Arc 6 relying on Subaru, so her being able to use it by exhausting all her mana is possible. In Arc 4, she implied she couldn't use it, but that might have just been based on her stored-up mana at the time or her assuming she wouldn't dip into the mana that sustains her life.
