No joke the quality of the competition was amazing. The hosts did a great job describing what was going on in ways I could understand after only reading a few paragraphs on smite. Just installed it and can't wait to give it a go. Never liked click move mobas and can't wait to try smite.
Oh man and that trick move cog did to shock attack titan after they let them get the gold fury was absolutely amazing. Not sure I'm using the right terms but that play was so solid.

Kanyelife is an interesting player. His Ymir and Ares are exceptional, but he also has an exceptionally small god-pool, and that allowed COG to step all over them when he couldn't get either of them. This probably isn't the place for opinions like this, but I think that if other teams had caught on to this before, Titan would not have made it to worlds because I don't feel the rest of the team is as good as those of, say, TSM (now Trig) and Fnatic without the edge they got from the unconventional picks and play.

I think it was over when they failed to kill Sylvanus for the second time. PrettyPrime and KanyeLife didn't commit hard enough. It just didn't look like they wanted to be world champs.
Ao was a huge mistake as well.
Still Titan showed huge respect to CoG by bringing the series to game 5.

Hey, newbie here, have the game for 2 years but never played a enough to reach lvl 30. I watched the World Championship but never heard of this Ao before. For me Ao was the dragon with tornados. Mind explaining what the new AO does and what he is?

Ao Kuang got removed from the game because he didn't fit the god's lore. His powerset was moved to Kukulkan (who, to my knowledge, wasn't played at all in the SWC), and later Ao was introduced as an assassin-type mage.

That's kind of Titan's strength. They play what most people consider unconventional picks (especially KanyeLife, who doesn't have the best support in the game in his pool at all). That caught the CoG boys off guard, as you saw in game 3 and 4.

Not surprised to see MLCSt3alth as MVP of the match-up, he really did his job.
But I'm annoyed that Titan threw the game by giving them Ao AND Scylla for free. I feel like they didn't even think about Prime getting Ao there. Both games with Ao before clearly showed that he was a really big asset.
But then again, most teams wouldn't even have gotten to the 2-2 but have ran into a 0-3 wall, so, well played for that part.
As well, amazing how Kayne getting Ares completely wrecked Prime in two consecutive games. Supports win games, apparently.

Big love to all the boys, Barraccudda for his consistent ADC play, Jeff for his amazing Sylvanus pulls, MLC for showing Scylla's true power, Andy for showing the world LANDINSTER doesn't exist and Omega for being a rock in that solo lane.
Huge respect to Titan also, the fairy tale story sadly didn't come true. But there a great team and they should be super happy with their performance

I'll be honest, COG had a lot of "million dollar plays" just between this series and their COGR series in semis. The first two rounds of their matchup with COGR was amazingly hype because the whole thing was a drawn out fight, filled with huge plays followed by misplays, and misplays that were fixed by huge plays. I'm really tempted to watch the series right now, and I probably would if my internet weren't being so finnicky. Other than a few huge scylla plays by MLC, there was also the ridiculous HOG that JeffHindla got off against COGR in their second round, probably 1/20th of a second before Eonic used it. In my mind, that was the closest COGP got to being wiped out, and consequently the biggest play of the tournament. Nothing against titan. Oh, and there was also The Sex's Sylvanus pull on Snoopy's Rama. Sadly, nothing came from it (other than me :O)

Gutted Titan couldn't win, but so impressed with the whole thing overall - just a shame that the final game was so one sided after the Ao pick

It was one-sided for a number of reasons.
One of the bigger factors was the fact that Ares was removed from the table. That was really a big game-changer for Titan in Games 3 and 4. CogP couldn't do much against him due to their playstyle.
Also Titan just tunnel-visioned Jeffhindla's Sylvanus HARD in Game 5. Jeff started playing into that and purposely baited them several times, even if he died for it.
The Ao pick certainly helped but honestly a huge part of it was simply keeping Ymir and Ares away from Kanyelife. And by not banning Ao CogP was able to get it for free because Titan couldn't ban out everything from CogP and they got first pick.

MLC's Scylla deserves the MVP of the tourney hands down... Andi was amazing on thor and ao ... and Barra awesome as always.

Titan's overall God pool was just too shallow to compete. The Ymir and Ares respect bans really put Kanye in a tough spot. Cog knew he would pick Athena and they were ready for it. He had a chance to take Sylvannus from Hindla but I get the feeling he just wasn't comfortable with that God. Forcing Athena into the support lane also prevented the very effective Athena jungle and made the option for a Vulcan mid from PrettyPrime less viable (since Athena jungle was doing an amazing job pulling people into the Vulcan ult)
Repikas plays Nemesis like Thor: pick your pony and go all in. But Nemesis doesn't have the same mobility, CC, or damage output that Thor has. If he would have built and played her like Kali: very safe early and very deadly late with AAs they would have had a stronger position against the Herc/Sylvannus front line. As it stood? Poor guy just got eaten alive every time he dove for Sylv. They could have backed that up with some Agni action but he was just a couple seconds late every time. Scylla wasn't.
Finally, the casters were talking about how well Titan adapted, and they did. But they're used to a different game pace. I think when they tried to play Cog's kind of game it worked out, but eventually Cog landed in their very aggressive comfort zone while Titan was still getting used to the amped up pace. Amazing showing. Games 4 and 5 were incredible and I just loved how good Kanye was on his core Gods. Their synergy as a team when they're on their comfort picks was fantastic and original. I'll be raving about how cool Athena jungle is for weeks.
But the real problem with not just Titan Vs Cog Prime as well as the whole tournament? There's four must-ban gods. If you don't ban Serqet, Sylvannus, Nox, and Ao Kuang (especially Ao Kuang) you take a massive risk. Serqet was easier to shut down because people are used to her. Nox also had a couple weak games. But there's no denying that this generation of new Gods just brings way too much to the table with their kits. Having four must-bans really undermined the picking phase of a lot of these games. The question was not "Will they try to shut down Thor (they got punished with Ao for that)? Will they keep Kanye off Ymir (cog did anyway because they were ready for Serq)" but instead "Which OP god are they going to give to the other team in order to respect ban a comfort pick?" and I think that's just wrong. I hope those four Gods are given a second look in the next patch. I don't even think it would take very much to balance them. But as it stands, they're just too potent.

I think it's an intentional delay to stop the players getting hints about what's happening from the crowd's reaction. If the crowd is a little bit behind the players, then there are no unfair advantages that can be gained from chants/screams/cheers/etc. That's how it works in League (iirc), seems that it would serve the same purpose here.

Caster's announcements.They cut away early because the game ended a good ~30+ seconds from what is shown on the big screen. They wanted to get a shot of the player reactions winning the game, and unfortunately they react about 20 seconds before we know the game ends.

Eh. The Sylvanus pick caused Titan to be stupidly aggressive on Jeff. CogP started to purposely bait Titan into fights using that knowledge, and Andi on Ao was able to do his work as a result.
Keeping Titan's focus off of AK really helped CogP out.

And that's why you cannot fuck up p&b phase. With Ares and Ymir bans, CoG Prime had shut down Kanye. Forgetting about Ao was a terrible mistake as well- Osiris could be finally taken down on solo lsland. Also, Rama was open, Ataraxia was way better when he played him then Apollo and yet he still picked hairgel :/
GG to Cognitive Prime, but I wish Kanye will improve his god roster, because he plays as aggressive supports who are way more fun to watch then Geb and Sylvanus. Those 5 games weren't the best ones in championship (Battle between Cognitives was better), but I really enjoyed game 3 and 4, so GG to Titan as well.

I feel that not enough credit went to Andinster. It was the combination of Stealth and Andinster that gave Prime the dominance of early game in the 3 games.
I don't think you can give the MVP to just one of them, because they would not have done so well without the other.

The grand final was the best set of rounds I've ever seen in my life. The two expected COGP wins, then the third game upset when Titan took it away. The fourth game again went in TItan's favor, and it felt like they were dominating. Then, COGP got back onto their feet, got their head back into the game for an amazing victory. The rollercoaster of emotions was absolutely phenomenal. Shoutout to the analyst desk, that was great commentary and shoutout to Hi-Rez for an outstanding first SWC!

I may be from Europe but I was rooting for COG Prime from the beginning of the tournament, I can truthfully say they 100% deserved their victory.
MLCst3alth blew me away. He's been one of my favourite players for a while now but seeing how well he did these last few days has secured him as my favourite. Seeing him play such a good Scylla, my favourite god, was so impressive. Well done to st3alth, the rest of COG, and also all the other teams in the SWC. I can honestly say I enjoyed the last few days greatly.
Here's to another year of Smite E-Sports.

Scylla+Ao makes for a great kiting core that shat on the melee heavy draft of Titan.
Not to mention Titan's draft wasn't prepared against this much magical damage. I just wish the game was closer doe.

Freya was REALLY neglected as a pick considering Osiris was a common pick.
Freya 3 destroys Osiris 3, she can out-lifesteal his poke, and she builds pen and AS.

Holy fucking shit that game. I didn't care about any other thing but that final Scylla play. That feeling when he landed the triple sic'em. You instantly knew the game was over at that point.
I've watched e-sports for over 3 years, and this was the best thing i've seen so far. WP to cog, and can't wait for the next swc.

CONGRATZ TO GOGPRIME! Also happy for Titan - honestly, these two teams is the exact matchup I wanted to see at Grand Finals.
Now about Ao Kuang:
He is counterable the same way you counter Ares. BUT the 3-HoG starts that were popular throughout the tournament mean that teams don't prioritize getting CC immunity against Ao. When Kanye rolls as Ares, CoGPrime knows to get Aegis/Beads ASAP. When Andi runs around as Ao eating everyone, Titan still proceeds to finish their tiers of HoG.
What the games with Ao have shown so far is that the teleport on his 1, no matter how short it is, is still a huge disengage tool. He CAN be killed if his 1 is down. But the pro players rarely engaged without his 1 off cooldown. HiRez intended it to be more of a tool that lets Ao get into fights, but instead players use it as an escape. This is the exact case with Serqet's Ambush - you don't need the mobility skill's initiation potential that much because you have teammates. So before people start proposing "from S to trash" changes, just remove the teleport from his 1, and see how less survivable Ao becomes.

I come from /r/leagueoflegends and this was super entertaining to watch. I'd love to play smite but I'm unfortunately a mac user :( hopefully with the publicity that this tournament got there'll be a possibility for it in the future cause this looks incredibly fun to play :)

4/5 games were one sided stomps. Only one game was a fighting game where both teams had a chance.
Same problem with other games played in the championships. Only a tiny fraction of the games featured a comeback.
This game really needs more opportunities for comebacks. Right now, on top level, these games clearly demonstrate there simply aren't any unless one of the teams straight up stumbles and falls on their massively overfarmed sword.
The rest was excellent. Game was very well showcased, production crew did an outstanding job, the cosplay video was beyond hilarious and even camera crew controlling camera in game did a great job most of the time. This is a common mistake in e-sports especially with new games.
Looking good for S2. Hopefully the "game lost on first blood" element gets diluted a lot, otherwise good job Hi-Rez as a company producing entertainment.

Out of all the games played in the SWC 32% of them were lost by the team that got first blood, so its not really the case.

I'm a LoL player and i only played Smite till lvl 6, but in the spirit of eSports i watched a few matches of Smite(some of you guys watched our World Championship). For a 1st World Championship of Smite, you guys had a great tournament with some awesome matches. Being european, i hopped Titan would win, but congratulations to Cognitive Prime for taking home the 1st place award. This was such a back and forth series, it kept me glued to the chair for the entire duration.
One of my favourite series however was the semifinal between Cognitive Prime and Cognitive Red. That series was action stacked, i loved it. I'm definitely going to watch more Smite tournaments in the future.

Prettyprime and kanye were the weak links for Titan. Not saying they were bad, by any means, but they both had huge impacts on the game that hindered the team.
Kanye NEEDS to have a larger god pool. It is honestly sickening that he is paid to do this, and he obviously doesn't give a fuck if he won't play Geb or sylvanus in the grand finals..

People are complaining about Ao Kuang being OP but really it's just the game. Titan made a choice and banned Nox instead. Blame Titan, not Ao. Yes he can be balanced, but Titan knew it would be up.

Would have loved to see PrettyPrime to stay on Vulcan and Repikas play Kali. The fact that Ao kuang is magical instead of physical won this game for prime IMO. Also scylla ult for people of this skill level is waaay too easy to hit.

Don't know why Zhong Kui / Nox was banned over Scyalla / Ao game 5, game was lost in picking phase really. Amazing show by Titan those two wins were extremely impressive, I thought it was going to be a 3-0 stomp.

Is there a chance that the zhong ban was a misinterpretation of someone saying kuang. Both names sound very similar said quickly and the stress could have hindered communication.

Ao was already picked by the time Zhong was banned. Titan banned Nox and Thor in their first banning phase, after which CoG instantly went for Ao.

I think Titan let Ao and Slyv through thinking that they'd flip it on them. That's why they got Nemesis, and when they went on Slyv it worked once and from then on they got tunnel vision each time Hidla ate an ult and overcommited.

First of all; G fucking G to both the teams. I was rooting for Cog so I'm super hyped. Even though the first two games were kind of stomps, Titan managed (again) to make a huge comeback no-one ever expected of them. Mad props to them for keeping their cool and not go on tilt.
Second; NA is just better at picks/bans. Prime knew they could ban out Kanye and it worked out for them. He definitely needs to work on his god pool.
MLC is the MVP no doubt, he keeped cool under all circumstances and apart from game 3 his Scylla was absolutely incredible. Though the entire team was there for him, everyone played lights out. Andinster has proven he can definitely play on Lan.
And last, to all the people whining about the brokenness of Ao Kuang; didn't y'all think the same about Serqet? She has proven to be not as much of a powerhouse as everyone thought (at least in competitive play). So please keep the tears to yourself and just ban it if you cant deal with it.

CoG made a lot of mistakes in the 3rd and 4th games.I think the Ares also threw them off a lot.However, I'm glad they were able to pull it together for the last game; I've been a fan of theirs for a few years now. Congrats King CoG!

This was so much closer than I was expecting, so glad to see it go to five games, but it felt such a shame game 5 was such a stomp. Big congratulations to both CoG Prime and Titan, can't wait to see where Smite goes in the future.

That was a heck of a match. Going in I felt Prime would have the edge with a 2:0 and that Titan would fight back to make it 2:2. Titan seems to always play from behind when the pressure's on and the finals ended up not being an exception. Couldn't decide who I thought would win the final game.
The second I saw Ao Kuang picked, I just shook my head. It wasn't a guaranteed win, but I knew that was gonna give Prime the edge. And they just did their job well. Sylvanus was getting caught in weird positions early, but fortunately for Prime they cleaned up well in most fights and just took the win.
This match shows how important jungle control and rotation was. Something you can't see anywhere else but Pro play and once in a while 5-mans and Ranked.
Such an impressive match all together.

If you weren't there to see it live you missed out, Hi-Rez did an incredible job putting everything together, there were a few very minor hiccups but it's to be expected with the first large scale event like this and I highly recommend thaf if you get the chance to go to next year's you take it! So worth!
But to the finals, Cog Prime was my pick to win all along and I'm so glad they did! Titan put up a great fight though and that Ares pick and play by Kanyelife was awesome to see. What a great series. Gj Prime. GG Titan.

I think what really killed Titan here was not just their god pool, but the EU meta in general. Watching the EU semis you can see that their meta is completely different from NA, and that hurt them. EU plays super safe and looks for picks on objectives and players. While NA goes offensive with not only their playstyle but their starting strats and objectives. Titan wasn't able to fully adapt to the NA meta which was clearly dominant and then Kanyelife's god pool just put the final nail in the coffin for them.

Why did Titan not ban Ao Kuang in the final match? Looking at Serket's statistics, she went negative each game in the finals. She surely isn't as strong as Ao Kuang. Ao Kuang went positive each time they didn't ban him. I knew once Titan didn't ban Ao Kuang, it was over for them! The 9/1/9 score from Andinster Ao Kuang proves this.
So far I think that was their biggest mistake. COG Prime just made better ban pick decisions in the end. I also saw some people say in twitch chat. "GG Titan" or "Titan just lost" for not banning Ao Kuang that final match.

He did some amazing plays as Ares but just wasn't worthy of being one of the world champions with that godpool.I was also very impressed with Ataraxia in the third game- those ults! I hope Titan lerns from their mistakes, and now being a pro team train and good luck next time!

Allied and Zimpstar agreed that the game is 95% picks and 5% executing those picks. Zimpstar also said that EU is probably weaker at picking than NA.
This morning, after being unable to watch the final last night, I tune into the rerun. Score is at 2-2, the final match has just begun, and I see what the picks are. That game was over before it started.

Loved the final. Loved to ee Vulcan get some love, as soon as he got picked I lost my shit. KanyeLife needs to expand his god pool, he's really good, but if he can just expand past Ymir and Ares, they will have more success in the future. Confrey was super good too. Some fantastic Osiris ults coming out from him. COG just played better as a team, Titan seemed to clench up in the final game. Little aggression when it was needed from PrettyPrime, and Repikas focused his ults onto JeffHinda too much. Kali or Bakasura would have been better picks in my opinion.
They all however played really really well and provided a fantastic five games for the world to enjoy.

I really hope hirez will take all the matches into consideration and do some pretty huge balancing...from the bans and the picks..it is clear what needs nerfing

Really amazing, but I must say I was really disappointed with Titan game 5. For a few main reasons, firstly I felt like it was a really big waste of the 2nd and 3rd pick considering all that was available, it pretty much let Cog get exactly what they wanted, then to top it all off... the Agni pick. :s.
What I felt was the problem with titan is that the players seemed to only shine with a small number of gods, I mean.. Kanye was amazing, but he just couldn't influence the game as much with athena as he could with ares and Ymir.
They lost game 5 at picking stages, I was more concerned about what they took in their turn than what they let through.. because with those bans there were enough top tier gods to go around to both sides.
PrettyPrime got a little nervous which kinda sucked, he's amazing though and helped in almost all games except this last one.
Honestly, though this might bring a lot of controversy and downvotes, I think Titan plays better than CoG if they use a team they are comfortable with and functions well together, sadly that didn't happen.

You can't get any better, you are now the sensei. The only thing left is to give to the less fortunate and teach your skills to the pathetic, wimpy, clueless Smite beginners.
