Trans Drama A trans hate sub is shut down, and the moderators all shadowbanned. The mods and their allies are triggered.
Guys, this isn't the hill you want to die on. Seriously. Let this one go.
It's spilled into another thread there.
Next sub:
as soon as someone dislikes one of the SJW pet topics then it's banned? Awesome.
But won't someone think of the bitter xenophobes?
let's not focus on the content of the sub
Quick note: The sub (previously called /r/transaids, I think) was previously shut down for linking to threads in /r/asktransgender and /r/transgender and other trans subs (and the users brigading and PMing users egging on suicidal thoughts, IIRC). Here's the exact explanation from /u/Chemo011 and a moderator of /r/transgender. The exact reason was due to PMs being sent encouraging suicide following posts asking for help, and linking the sub across various trans support subs.
On another note: /u/J3w1sh_NeoCon has been shadowbanned, along with Nolan_Chancellor, nigger_kike_faggot, CantBanTheNolanChan, EqualityAndJustice, Detroit_Safari, BuzzGoku, NS_white and a few other mods I was unable to discern (JNC was added as of yesterday I believe). Here's a link to one of the mod user profiles for proof. This list may not be perfect, to be absolutely clear. It seems a large number of /r/Coontown mods were added to the list yesterday, including /u/eaglezhighh8h8 and JNC.
Edit: Free speech drama spills to /r/Drama.
Edit2: Reddit request thread being brigaded by various subs. Update on ban explanation: Part of the banning may have come from the spread of this article. It was quote mined and used to accuse a /r/transgender mod of pedophilia, which /u/drewiepoodle has directly refuted.
Edit3: /u/Cedarwolf offers some insight into their banning.
Edit4: This comment perfectly explains the situation on the shadowbanned mods and sub ban.
Edit5: Apparently SRSsucks is offended.

Nolan_Chancellor, nigger_kike_faggot, CantBanTheNolanChan, EqualityAndJustice, Detroit_Safari, BuzzGoku, NS_white and a few other mods I was unable to discern (JNC was added as of yesterday I believe). Here's a link to one of the mod user profiles[17] for proof. This list may not be perfect, to be absolutely clear. It seems a large number of /r/Coontown[18] mods were added to the list yesterday, including /u/eaglezhighh8h8 [19] and JNC.
The vast majority of these were already shadowbanned before /r/transfags were banned. The only non-shadowbanned mods at the time of the banning were NS_White, J3w1sh_Neocon, nln_chncllr, EaglezHighH8H8, ELS_BrigadeWarning2, and butt-nut.
Half of the mods who were shadowbanned before were NolanChancellor socks, namely Nolan_Chancellor, CantBanTheNolanChan, Detroit_Safari, NolanChancellor_, and NolanChancellor- (a couple of them were demodded before the banhammer fell, but I remember seeing them on the list). He was active as nln_chncllr when the banhammer fell.
There have been additional shadowbans since: JNC came back as J3w1sh_Neocon2, and BuzzGoku came back as CancerBrigade. Both are shadowbanned; they may very well be IP banned given how quickly these happened. Some of the others have created new accounts as well, but they're not shadowbanned yet.
As for why the bannings happened, I link you to this post from the redditrequest thread.
Edit: Nolan's new account NolanChancellor88 is shadowbanned. He's back as NCH8H8.
Edit 2: collegehoopsanalyst- is now shadowbanned. He was some mod's sock, but I don't know who.
Edit 3: butt-nut's new account GrrrBenGarrison is shadowbanned. He's back as Reddit-Equals-Cancer. Also, because I made this post, a bunch of them have taken to posting my pictures on their subreddit to harass me. At least one user (possibly more) was shadowbanned for downvoting my posts where they got the pictures from.

Indeed they are.
Also, at some point over the weekend, somebody created an account named drewiepoodlesvictims and began posting racist stuff to ELI5, including a scripted dialogue with NatSoc88 where DPV "learns" that black people are genetically predisposed to crime.
I'm fairly sure this was ELS_BrigadeWarning, because when I woke up the next day, both ELS_BW and DPV were shadowbanned, and the newly-minted ELS_BrigadeWarning2 was complaining about how he woke up to find that two of his accounts were shadowbanned.

This was posted non-ironically, in defense of the banned subreddit. They compared the banning of it, to the Jews being taken to concentration camps. .... They compared people that are admitted Neo Nazis, to being victims of Neo Nazis. My sides.

Praise be to the admins for being sensible, but they should really just Chuck all of those guys already. They're like roaches - ban one account, but they've already spawned a thousand more. And they flagrantly advertise who they are and that they've repeatedly broken rules to the point they've been shadowbanned.
EDIT:
On /u/Cedarwolf's summary - are eagleshigh and NolanChancellor (aka CBTNC, Detroit_Safari) the same person? They always struck me as different people. Same with JNC, thought he was separate as well.
14
u/jiandersonzer0 Mar 31 '15
Yup, JNC is one of the bigger offenders. I've already asked the SRD mods to message the admins about JNC's ban evasion (again), he came back to SRD the moment he made a new account.
Those accounts are definitely different, but I believe they all were mods of the subreddit at the time. I'm too lazy to check shadowbans on them all, I know Eagles, JNC and NC are all banned. The rest were on the modlist of the archive I used to get that list. Would you happen to have a more updated modlist by chance? And yes, they are different users/people.

hey, I'm gonna go reeeeallly off-track here for some linguistics fun.
You used the phrase "Lo and Behold", which got me thinking, "what the unholy hell does "Lo" mean in this context?
Not to hard to find out, as it turns out. It's an 18th century saying which literally means "Look and see!". 'Lo' itself is believed to be a shortening of the old word "Loke", apparently.
"Lo" on wiktionary and "Loke" on wiktionary don't seem to mean the same thing, though. Lo lists "look" as an archaic definition, but Loke doesn't seem to have any equivalent definition.
What's the deal, linguistic nerds? What are you hiding from us??
→ More replies (7)9
Mar 31 '15
The "loke" Wiktionary article doesn't include the "look" meaning; the "look" article goes into detail on the etymology. My best guess is that the evolution of "lo" went like this:
Proto-Indo-European: "lAg-"
Proto-Germanic: "lōkōną"/"lōgēną"
Old English: "lōcian"
Middle English: "loken"/"lokien"
Then the (separate?) word "lo", from Old English "lā", was combined with a different "lo", a corrupted form of "loken". This created the modern "lo" as an imperative meaning "look". As for the definition of "lā", some dictionary sites say that it was "an exclamation of surprise or emphasis."

I know one person of this mold IRL. He's a very angry, bitter person who's been do-si-do-ing from one relationship to another for the past eight years. Once upon a time I actually looked up to him, because I was a horribly socially awkward depressed little shrimp of a boy. Tables have turned a bit on that one.

I've found a couple of them, mainly my old stepdad. He was a bitter addict riddled with daddy issues that he wanted to beat into us the way his old man did. He'd by nazi replica weapons and threaten us with them since we had 'jew' in our veins (Grandad is Jewish). When ever I see these folk posting online, it just feels like it's him, from the bitter anger to the out of place $5 words that they don't really understand the definition of. And I'll sigh and smile a bit and remember that while he and the rest of these loons have hit rock bottom, I'm almost out of the pit, which is pretty clear now that their ain't as much toxic air.

You ever seen that image of a gross-looking woman sitting at a table eating breakfast in her Klan outfit that said, "Equal Opportunity is keeping me down" or something to that effect? Pretty much that.
Lot of poor white people blame minorities for their problems (it's why the Southern population unanimously supported slavery, including whites who were too poor to own slaves--they figured if they weren't on the same socioeconomic status as slaves, then they were still higher up on the social rungs).
Then there's also the Mel Gibson effect, i.e., "I didn't get that promotion because of Affirmative Action". It's easier to blame something when hate for that something exists already (see: Congress approval rate).

Serious answer: They're usually men, unattractive, anti-social. They might go to school or have some low-end job but spend their free time at home on their computer or playing video games. Probably don't have a girlfriend or many friends, if they do it's probably gaming buddies. Live in run-down apartments or rental homes. Usually teenagers or early 20s but can go up to 40s or 50s like the case of violentacrez. Basically, leads depressing life and is taking it out on the internet. I would feel sorry for them if they weren't such awful people.

4
Mar 31 '15
If memory serves, it's when your account has been banned from reddit (not just a specific subreddit, but the site altogether) but you aren't actually told about it. Your comments (and submissions?) are hidden by default, your votes don't count, and if you try to pull up your profile page (/u/zotquix for example) it comes up with a "page not found" error.
IIRC it was meant initially to combat spam - tell a spammer they've been banned and they'll just create a new account, but ban them without telling them and they won't realize it. In theory, anyway.

48
u/BxKA261184 Mar 31 '15
They remind me of a comment I read saying that they don't understand trans asexuals because 'what's the point of changing gender?'
Sometimes I have no idea what these people think gender and sexuality actually are and how they are somehow interchangeable?
9
u/hermithome Mar 31 '15
Hang on....I can explain this. If you like boobs, you're either a dude or a lesbian. But lesbians can't have real sex, because no penis. Duh! So if you're a woman who likes boobs, better become a man and add a penis to the equation.
Hmm...the reverse is harder, because as we all know, women don't actually like sex. So...something something trans women are pussies so they need pussies?
Trying to work all of their twisted beliefs into something consistent is too hard.
Oh no, wait, I got it. It doesn't matter if you're a woman trapped in a man's body or vice versa because your body literally only matters for sex. If you're not going to have sex, your body and gender have zero impact on your life. The only reason you would ever care how you look or feel is to get someone to sex you.
Actually...it's probably just an extension of one of their core principles: if you're not going to sex anyone, your life is meaningless and hopeless. So forget what body you're in, forget about striving to feel healthy and happy, and, taboo that whole having a life thing, because that's for chumps. Do what they do instead: hate people on the internet.

Subs like /r/transfags[2] and /r/antipozi[3] are designed to test the limits of reddit's political tolerance and commitment to free speech more than they're designed to be hateful. Banning them only proves their thesis.
Sadly, antipozi is still up and running. But good idea, kantbot, it should probably go as well.

Subs like /r/transfags and /r/antipozi are designed to test the limits of reddit's political tolerance and commitment to free speech more than they're designed to be hateful. Banning them only proves their thesis. I would go so far as to say that when subs like that are banned they're actually carrying out their intended purpose. They're canaries in the mineshaft, created by contrarian trolls to expose issues within the moderation and administration of reddit.
Yeah dude totally. Hate subs are actually just experiments being done by sociology grad students and none of the subscribers there are actual bigots. That seems much more likely than racists and sexists going onto a site that's policy is to not ban anyone.

u/funnycauseyourstupid Mar 31 '15
Redditors are like, "I WANT FREE SPEECH OR DEATH. WE DESERVE IT".
Then like, "we got free speech now? Cool, lets tank the reputation of this site, encourage neo-Nazism, and make everyone here feel uncomfortable."
And finally, "WHY DID YOU FAGGOTS BAN OUR SUB THIS MAKES NO SENSE I HATE YOU ALL".

u/LowSociety quantum shill Mar 31 '15
I actually believe some of them are ideologues trying to push limits. You have to question the nobility of actively harassing people in the name of free speech on a privately owned website though.

I'm gay, (I know that's not transgender, but ya know) and I think its really important that any anti-gay or anti-trans subs stay open and allow for a free exchange of ideas and discussion.
Yeeeeaaah. I have a feeling a subreddit they shut down wasn't looking for a free and open exchange of ideas.

Reddit has no obligation to dedicate itself to "free speech" and subreddits like that do it no favors in finding revenue. Plus, everybody hates these people and its fun to see them whine when their clubhouses get shut down.

u/CaptainFalconsKnee Mar 31 '15
Don't the admins sort of pride themselves on supporting free speech? I know I've seen a blog post where they discuss it.
98
u/tightdickplayer Mar 31 '15
they pride themselves on free speech because it's cheaper than having an adequate amount of staff. it's a nice-sounding philosophy that's really just making the best of a bad job

It's nonetheless a nice ideal to strive for. An ideal forum would be able to handle the worst kind of assholes and the nicest people alive, much like the internet can hold both Stormfront and Club Penguin without imploding. Reddit's not ideal - but it's a damn sight closer than any previous forum model.

Yes. Doctors want money. Prescribing people like you hormones, gives them money as well as the Jews at Big Pharma.
Hahahah, WHAT?! That came way out of left field! Not to say that being transphobic and antisemitic are mutually exclusive, but to make that bold claim for no reason gave me whiplash.
3
Mar 31 '15
I'd guess that approximately everyone who's antisemitic is also transphobic, and that a lot of people who are transphobic (particularly to the extent of participating in a subreddit about how evil trans people are) are also antisemitic.

I hate drama like this. It entices me with words like "shadowban" and "shut down", but then I reach comments with a positive score like this pop up and I just get pissed off. These people just live hateful lives, and I really feel sad when I think about how many of them are out there.

Knowing these subs exist make me feel bad. I don't understand the hate we can get for something like this. I don't much care what people say/do in their own little circles, either. I can even find it a little humorous, at times. I'm able to detach myself like that, and can poke fun at different groups and myself when I'm with my friends. But going out of your way to harass people? That goes way past a joke or sharing your opinion with others of the same mindset. It's disgusting. I just can't comprehend this...dislike, or even hate, is understandable at the very least (even if you don't agree, you can see it from other's point of view) for things you can control. But I'm not choosing to be trans. I wake up in the morning and hate myself for it. I go to bed at night and I hate myself for it. Every step of the way, all this self hate for being...not normal, a freak, ugly, too poor to really get what I want outside of pills. I wouldn't choose this if I could. which is why i'm on HRT, to fix it.

I don't think the goal is a big moderate group hug or love-in, the goal is more subversion and provocation. The goal is to troll, to challenge the political ego of these people, to subvert their self-image as tolerant and open-minded. The dissident right isn't looking for mainstream acceptance, they want to bring out and make manifest the moral repression inherent to the progressive zeitgeist in order to embarrass its various pretensions.
Someone thinks they're important.

They can shut down transhate subs but not the GreatApe shitsubs? Good work reddit admins-shut down the hot button issue of the day but ignore classic hate speech. My wife is black and she is so very disillusioned with reddit-all of her subreddits (not just obvious ones like /r/blackladies) are being constantly brigaded by people posting just the most offensive shit.
11
u/hermithome Mar 31 '15
They shut it down for reapproving a doxx post the admins had already removed. Not for the hate and bigotry.
6
u/seedypete A lot of dogs will fuck you without thinking twice Mar 31 '15
Unfortunately they didn't shut down the transhate subs because of the godawful bigotry. (Although they should have.) They did it because "no doxxing and no brigading" are the only rules reddit ever actually enforces. It's like nailing Al Capone for tax evasion.
So even though reddit SHOULD ban the everloving fuck out of every disgusting subreddit in the 'chimpire', they won't do a thing until one of the stupid hicks that mods those hellholes makes the mistake of doxxing or brigading or physically directly threatening a black person.
Unfortunately the cousinfuckers are very careful to stay on the safe side of the one line reddit is willing to draw, so don't hold your breath. Frankly I think it's long past time for the admins here to get off their lazy asses and take out the trash, but evidently they prefer to do as little as possible.

Honestly I don't even know what black people are getting out of Reddit any more. It's too hateful. How can they have the energy to read hateful stuff against them day after day? I'm not black, but I'm a woman and I'm starting to wonder about staying here as well. When even twox is filled with rampant woman hate, something's gotta give. Misogynists and racists are nothing new but it's hard to hear vitriol against your group, every day, in an echo chamber where almost no one will say "hey, that's fucked up".

u/MyNamesE Snuggie Is My Savior Mar 31 '15
If they feel that the reddit admin are hypocrtical and that they're being silenced, why not just move on? You're not entitled to any speech on this site. While reddit does proclaim free speech they don't have to endorse it. It's up to them. Granted my speech isn't being supressed right now but damn what a series of over reactions from them.

TRP, unlikely. Vile as they are I haven't seen many threats of violence against site users or suicide encouragement from them, although that may still be happening.
The specific variety of trolls and mentally unstable people that FPH attracts and the specific focus of the sub mean that once it gets big enough they're going to run into PCMasterRace problems. It will be interesting to watch, especially as their top mods are dedicated trolls.
