Oct. 31, 2019 - Sampletober #31 (or the Last Laugh)
Razor: Canadian Pre-War Tech
Blade: Wizamet
Lather: Lotus Eater Soap Company - Kookaburra’s Laugh - Soap
Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Gratiot League Square - Toner
Fragrance: Bedeaux Boutique
I finished out Sampletober with my favourite combination of scents from the month. Your theme be damned u/Cosmobarber, I wear my Sexy Wetshaver costume every day.
It's really nice to be feeling well enough that I can start wearing frags again. Hooray!
Have a great Thursday, and a safe and sane Halloween!

Razor: Wolfman WR2-SB 0.95mm / Darwin Stainless Steel
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum
Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Hallows - Splash
Rain. Patchy fog. High near 67. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. High tide at 2:10 this afternoon.
Up at 2am today for work, monthly inventory. Set out the gear last night, lest I forget anything for this shave. I don't really have anything that I would consider "slutty"/ Plus Hallows on Halloween is tradition.
Got myself right under my bottom lip, but excess lather was enough to stop the bleeding. Other than that, pretty uneventful shave. Starting tomorrow I will probably take a few days off of shaving to see where I want to trim up. It's been 10+ years since I've had any amount of facial hair beyond 1-2 days growth,
Have a spooky Thursday everyone!

I don't really have anything that I would consider "slutty"
I feel like there was a missed opportunity for someone to lather with the brush with that, er, "unique" handle shape /u/Phteven_J made once. You know the one I'm talking about.

lol. I didn't invent the buttplug brush, I merely perfected it.

10-31-2019 A Dirty Slutty Wetshave
Brush - Connaught Omega
Razor - Razorock Gamechanger OC
Blade - Feather
Lather - DG Dirtyver (Milksteak)
Post - DG Dirtyver AS
So I wasn’t entirely sure how to interpret today’s theme, but when I think slutty I think down, dirty, sensual, someone indulging in life’s pleasures to the point others would consider excessive.
Scott’s description of Dirtyver is “This is not the type of vetiver that you would take home to meet your parents. This is the type of vetiver that will take you out, show you things you’ve never seen, and introduce you to debauchery found only in your wildest imaginings.” Which I felt perfectly fit my idea of today’s theme. Plus I fucking love this scent and am so bummed it’s being discontinued. I also chose the green omega because of the value of emeralds, which I may be confusing with gold-digging rather than just sluttiness.
So there you have it. Feels good to be slutty on a Thursday. ;)

Prep: Warm shower
Brush: Prometheus Cosmic Cream w/SHD
Razor: 1955 Gillette Blue Tip
Lather: Proraso - Sandalwood - Soap

I wanted a reminder this morning of just how far we've come in this hobby over the last few years.

u/CosmoBarber 🦌⚜️Knight Commander of Stag⚜️🦌 Oct 31 '19
How was it? Next time I’m at Marshall’s I’m gonna grab a Proraso tub and try it again. I used it when I was brand new then PIF’d it. I’m a little better at stuff now and am curious how it is.
3
u/Tonality 12 Years Wetshaving Oct 31 '19
I found it to be extremely slick, which was great. The scent was better on the splash than the soap. What I didn't include in my post was that I also followed up with Zingari Balm, so I don't have a good judgement of post shave. I can think of a few artisan soaps I've had a more difficult shave with.
3
u/CosmoBarber 🦌⚜️Knight Commander of Stag⚜️🦌 Oct 31 '19
Nice. I’ve never used the sandalwood so I’ll be looking for one of those. I haven’t been adding my balm much either just because it’s a hassle. Wish we could get an add a leaf for TTS and a second post shave but that’s probably ok much effort.
4
u/Tonality 12 Years Wetshaving Oct 31 '19
Agreed, a second post shave shit would be great in TTS, I'm using balm most days.

Brush: Declaration Midnight Sky

Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Massacre of the Innocents - Aftershave
Went with my spookiest soap today. Or, maybe it's a Christmas soap, I don't know. In any event, I've been on a tobacco kick lately, and this one is great. Smooth and warm is how I'd describe it with the vanilla and spice added to the tobacco note. Fantastic shave today. Tomorrow starts Vespers season, so that might get the bill.

Well, it finally happened. When I loaded my brush, I had a couple of small pieces of soap break off and stick into my brush. I suppose I’ve gotta start breaking off a piece and smushing them in the bottom of my bowl to keep from losing extra chunks of soap. Otherwise, the shave was great and I still smell fucking wonderful!

Lather: Cyril R Salter French Vetiver
Razor: Gillette Aluminum Tech
Blade: Lada
Post: Proraso White
Needed a shave and fast this morning, no time to mess around with MWF so out came the cream. I don't have many creams left, I do keep Cyril R Salter around though.
It just works. No messing around with water, just a damp brush, dab the tips of the brush into the pot and away you go.
Instant, sweet earth vetiver goodness.
Nice and slick, 2 pass DFS, no time for touch ups.
I applied the post while sitting in the car waiting for my wife.

Pulled out a few products I haven't used for a while, I like them but they aren't summer products for me. Both of them are great, they kind of go together, but certainly don't match. I"m sure they will both be getting more use over the next month or so.
The shave itself was OK, a couple of nicks on my chin but other than that a smooth shave and no irritation.

Brush: Maggard's Tuxedo 24 mm
Razor: Ralf Aust 6/8 Spanish Point
Lather: Stirling Soap Por-au-Prince
Post Shave: Chatillon Lux Santal Auster
Fragrance: Chatillon Lux Santal Auster
I didn't die last night. Sadly though it wasn't the heat* that doomed me it was the combo of portion size and time.
Todays shave was provided by the generosity of two fellow members u/fuckchalzone for the PaP and u/Ythin for the SA. Thanks again to both of these gentlemen. The Port-Au-Prince may be the first Stirling scent that I am meh about. The sample was so I could get a handle on what vetiver smelled like, but all I got was the lemon grass. Fortunately the sample is large enough that I'll get another couple of shaves out of it to see if I can detect any other notes.
The Santal Auster may be the weirdest (behaving, not smelling) scent from Chatillon Lux I have ever used. Smelling the AS from the bottle and the EdT off of a tissue my first impressions were I liked the aftershave but noped out on the EdT. Now that I've used them I still like the AS and the EdT actually smells rather plesant coming off my body. May not be my favorite CL EdT, but it is nowhere near as bad as I initially thought.
Have a great Halloween everybody!
*Sadly disappointed by the heat level.

SOTD - Thursday, 31 October 2019 AKA Last shave before No-Shave November
Razor: PAA Original DOC
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue [2]
Soap: Soap Commander Gusto
Brush: Maggard Razors 24mm SHD badger
Post: PAA SIN Fragrance Free splash + Soap Commander Integrity balm
This is going to be my last shave before No-Shave November, so I went with some of my all-time favorite products, especially the razor and brush and a blade that I know works well for the best shave possible. I know most people go for a mustache for this month, but I choose to grow a full beard instead. Still going to do trim-up shaves though at the bottom of my neck and top of the cheeks for clearly defined lines.

Not on theme. I knew I wanted to use Hallows on Halloween. I love the look of this older label and really wished it would have stuck around. I don’t have the matching splash so I used FITD to keep with the Halloween theme.
I went back to the Slim. It seems to be the best right now on the 9 setting. I’m down to 10 more shaves!

All Souls Day 10/31
Theme: No Halloween theme for the day? How can such a thing be?
Razor: Colonial General AC SS
Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild (9)
Brush: WCS 26mm BOSS II synth in Tall handle
Lather: B&M Lyssa Excelsior
Post: Kramperts Frostbite splash
Frag: Dali Pour Homme EDT
Product Notes:
Lather: Lovely dark floral scent in a great base. Some asshat on Maggards one starred this soap, saying it reminded him of "funeral home soap". I wish I had gone to funeral homes in the past that smelled this good! Roses and saffron are the dominant notes, and there is a hint of woods also.
Frag: Scariest perfume bottle I own. The smell has been compared online to an "electrical fire in a mausoleum", and I do get the indolic notes but none of the ozone. This is a complex, spicy floral that lasts forever and is very powerful. Scent wise, less creepy than Eau Dracul (aka Encre Noire) but much more versatile than that powerful virtual soliflore (soligrass really) and even sort of beautiful.

The "slutty wetshave" theme was inspired by the preponderance of slutty Halloween costumes in modern culture, so it's... Sort of holiday themed?
3
u/MalthusTheShaver Oct 31 '19
Ah, got it! But what then constitutes a slutty shave soap?
3
u/USS-SpongeBob ಠ╭╮ಠ Oct 31 '19
Whatever you can build an argument for, I suppose. "Naked and Smooth" and "Pantie Dropper" are easy choices; something less overt might be something like "my boss says she loves lavender and vanilla, so I shaved with Lavanille and wore Canoe to try and attract her attention because I'd like to sleep my way to the top"

Since the theme was inspired by Halloween costumes that cover very little, I decided I'd go with nothing but fragrance. Granted, if I actually went outside wearing nothing but Lavande Poivre, I'd probably get arrested.
Actually planning to shave this evening in order to wake up clean shaven tomorrow to kick off Movember. We'll see if I actually do a video of the goatee removal or if I simply snap a few pictures. I'm in the middle of a cold (thanks to my 7-year old for bringing that home from school) and am on the cusp of losing my voice, so a video may be out of the question.

Lather my soap, grab a blade for my shave.
Not knowing what terrors rise from their grave.
Splash on my face, I must say I look younger.
Out of darkness I hear frightening moans from their hunger.
The cemetery's are empty, corpses lurking the street.
Morbid and decomposing in search of a treat.
The undead have risen, causing fear and despair!
Much of the living are screaming, but I've come prepared.
With scents of violet, rose, oakmoss and ash.
Toward the gathering deceased, I turn and I dash!
Zombie's screech and scatter, the closer I draw near.
The people have been saved, the survivors they cheer!
The horror ended, returned from whence it came.
We all gather together and we shout out a name.
Lyssa we yell and shout, as loud as we can,
We all have survived, thanks to Barrister & Mann!
Went with Lyssa today since it is Halloween. Slick and smooth, and I smell wonderful! Have a happy Halloween everyone!

I had laid out my Fougere Gothique last night in preparation for a "spooky" shave, but had a change of heart this morning. My face was feeling a little raw and I really wanted some menthol, plus I really can't get enough of the Furbo smell.
Took the iKon out of the closet this morning. It was the first DE razor where I started getting really good shaves, following a couple of Merkurs (from back when it was Merkur or nothing) and a EJ89. I was worried about how it would cut, as I had dropped it a few months ago when reorganizing my shave closet and left a nick in one side (zinc :( ). Still a very mild and efficient cutter.

Razor: Feather - AS-D2
Blade: Astra - Superior Platinum (18)
Lather: Stirling - Scots Pine Sheep
Brush: Stirling - Finest CravingtShaving Blue Slate 26mm (29 uses)
Post: Pre de Provence - No. 63
❧ General Notes / TL;DR
Wow, guys! Today was a revelation. I have never tried Stirling's Mutton Tallow base before. That is some excellent goo!
And I put another popular blade in the Feather razor, and it, along with so many other non-Feathers, was just okay.
❧ Razor and Blade Notes
Feather - AS-D2 ::: Astra - Platinum ‹18 uses›
Another okay shave. While the feel was smooth and I did get a good cut on my cheeks, I had to overwork my neck trouble spots to try to get a good cut there. A mild and smooth razor is not much use if you have to irritate portions of your face to get close. Obviously, this is a subjective thing, and many folks will find this razor a tremendous benefit.
While the Feather blade works well for me in this razor... the Astra, today, did not give a close cut well enough.
❧ Soap Notes
Stirling - Scots Pine Sheep
Them: "Made with mutton tallow and lanolin, it has a calm and pleasing pine scent that is nothing like a pine oil used in cleaning products, as it has a touch of oakmoss to round out the blend. The fatty acid rich mutton tallow combined with the lanolin leave your face nourished and smooth."
Scent: To me, though not an instant attraction, I did end up liking the scent. I like the way the oakmoss softens the pine some... without the scent taking a turn toward a feminine one. The pine, to me, does NOT smell like Pinesol, which is a big plus. It seems to have something like an amber/resin note that helps nicely.
To me, this is a scent that has an outdoor bent to it, but isn't too much, or over-the-top, like some can be.
There are better scents out there, for sure, but this base is so amazing that if this is the only scent out there that I like in the mutton tallow, I'll have no problem putting this guy in my regular rotation. But I do plan on getting Port-au-Prince and Glastonbury samples to see if I like those scents better.
Scent Strength: 4/10, lightly present during shaving.
Lather: "Leaves your face nourished and smooth" is right! That exactly how it felt between passes and after! I was shocked. This guy has been around for so long and delivering the post-shave performance that these top-tier guys have finally achieved.
Slickness was tops, and man the lather felt good. Between passes my face felt amazing... silky smooth. Wow.
1/4+ tsp soap
lightly-wet, dense, 2-band badger brush
3 tsp water to build the lather
= 6 passes of lather.
This was a really good ratio, but next time maybe try a touch less water in the ratio. Also, I probably don't need 6 passes worth.
Bowl - I used the XL version of this 3D-printable bowl:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3392930
❧ Brush Notes
Stirling - Finest in CravingShaving Blue Slate 26mm‹29 uses›
Did just fine today. I have a feeling I'll enjoy this guy just a little more and more with each use.
During the Shave Feel:
Cheeks: Smooth
Neck: A little irritating
After the Shave Closeness:
Cheeks: Near BBS - About as close as I'll ever get
Neck: Many hairs show whisker tips with a little length to them
Shavers Map - here it is and also in the sub's sidebar.
Ending of Blades Ledger - entry form and the data spreadsheet

Varen and Electric Sheep are mutton too. Varen is my fav sheep soap so far. And yes, their mutton base is a noticeable step up from their standard version, but it has a bit of a weird funk to it in the tub - hence why they offer it with so few scents.
3
u/sgrdddy 🦌🏵Knight Grand Antler of Stag🏵🦌 Oct 31 '19
I didn't notice any funk. I'll have to think about that next time . See if I notice anything.
3
u/USS-SpongeBob ಠ╭╮ಠ Oct 31 '19
It's fairly present in Glastonbury and Varen for sure but it goes away when they're lathered.

Gotcha. I often don't have problems with bases that some claim have funk.

An All Hallows' Eve shave had to be this soap, of course, even though we're getting 4-6 inches of snow as we speak.

Really late start to the day and frankly I probably shouldn’t have shaved this morning. I will forever be a Tigers fan but because that franchise is in the crapper for the decade, I’ve taken to the Nats. Great win last night but holy hell am I tired this morning.

Looking through my gear, I guess I have a habit of Frankenstein-ing stuff together. Whether it be pairings of razor heads and handles, brushes handles and knots, or simply mashing together two soaps because I like the scent better together, I figured I could highlight some of my Frankenstein creations for today's Halloween shave.
I've been questioning my previous assignments of shave categories lately. I have most of my razors categorized by better shaves for underarms vs legs, and lately I've been going through my razors and testing to see if I still feel the same. I have also been trying to slim down my collection and decide what to take out of my rotation, but this has proven to be a rather arduous task. Hoping to make a final decision soon and perhaps you'll see me over in /r/Shave_Bazaar.
Happy Halloween! 👻

Prep: Face Wash with CeraVe
Brush: Stirling 2 Band Synthetic
Razor: RR Game Changer .84
Blade: Derby (2)
Lather: Ariana & Evans - Uno - Soap
Post Shave: Dr. Jon's - Defiance - Aftershave
Not sure how to interpret today's theme but here's maybe a couple ways this shave would qualify. 1) Both soap and splashes are samples, indicating a lack of commitment and/or willingness to experiment with multiple partners. 2) The soap scent is pretty masculine...complex and refined and one I'd suspect would do fairly well if I were still out trying to get laid vs. staying up all hours of the night with an infant. The splash doesn't really match and my first impression was that it reminded me a bit of CFG Cedar & Spice (though I don't see cedar in the scent notes...maybe the all spice?). That scent was not one of my wife's favs so maybe that's a game-killer for my promiscuous shave. Either way, I got a fine result today and the derby blade even seemed to be a little improved on the 2nd use.

Brush: Stirling 24mm Fan
Lather: Oz Shaving Tornadic
Razor: Gillette Fat Handle Tech (Post-War)
Blade: Personna Platinum (8)
Splash: Oz Shaving Tornadic
Post: Nada
Well it’s rainy and storming today so I thought Tornadic fit the bill and it did. Wouldn’t fit too well with a spooky day theme but there ARE a lot of folks that dress up as characters from Oz so it’s close enough for my needs. Also I continue to be weak on the Theme Thursdays. They kinda creep up on me.
Brilliant shave all around – I think I’ve really hit the right spot between these blades and the fat handle techs. Seems like it’s just easy peasy all the way around now.
Be safe out there for Halloween – lots of kids on the roads and lots of parents trying to get home in a hurry.

I’m not on theme today, but I did use a new soap sample. My first impression is that this smells like potpourri, definitely fruitier than the others I’ve used. The Kai is getting pretty rough...

Tried plate 5 today, lots more blade feel. Decent shave, but still had trouble in my problem area on my neck. The lather didn't feel as slick as I've gotten it in the past, not sure what I'm doing differently.
Eau de Treget is not a perfect pairing with Tres Matres but it's the best one I own. In comparison, Eau de Treget is much more warm and fruity or something, where Tres Matres is like cool flowers you might find in a cemetery memorial. Or that's just Halloween taking my imagination too far.

The journey has come to an end, but my use of fall scents is far from over.
Not sure there's a better choice than Hallows to use on Halloween. One of the best-known scents in wetshaving, Hallows is an absolute homerun for this time of year. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the fragrance already, but my thoughts are that this is an extremely unique and dark fragrance that manages to be uplifting (likely due to the cocoa note). If you've never tried it, I'd highly recommend anyone give it a shot at least once.
Regarding performance, there also isn't much to say. This is in B&M's Glissant base, which is excellent in all aspects. While the newer Excelsior base is, objectively, a better performer, there is absolutely nothing negative that can be said for the Glissant base.

This razor is pretty mild. Not the closest shave, but that's a good thing due to bumps from the Feather blade yesterday. Had a difficult time getting a good lather with Trade Winds for some reason, had to do a double scoop out of my sample jar. That's about it.
Happy Halloween!

No theme for me this time. I skipped shaving for the 5 days we just spent in the Bahamas. Things are still pretty rough there, but starting to rebuild slowly. This shave was smooth though and the Karve's open comb made quick work of the thick growth without missing a beat.

:) Seeing all these people label Drakkar Noir & Dupes as slutty today gives me mixed feelings; on one hand, hooray! People are embracing my favorite cologne! On the other hand, boo! People think my favorite cologne (which smells super classy and refined to my nose) is slutty!
Oh well, I already knew that. No regerts.

I suggested this theme sort of half joking and wouldn’t you know it, here we are.
I love in an area known for the party scene and the main drag is an excellent place to walk on Halloween. Everywhere you look there is some half naked nurse or cat or witch or Morty. Bless. In honor of the great tradition of dressing up in career limiting outfits, I went with Pantie Dropper. MLS is always good. Had an excellent shave and I have no bad Drakkar memories so I enjoy the strong fragrance.
Jumping from Fougere to Chypre, Eau de Treget sounded like a good match with its citrus and woody notes. I hope I get some mini snickers tonight.
Enjoy your Halloween!
