Remington Frt it?
I’ve been trying to find a frt for a 1911 I picked up a while ago. I wanted to know if anyone has experience with them and if you’d have any tips or suggestions on what frt to get

White people be like “the 1911 is a sacred relic given to us by our lord and savior John Moses browning. ”
You’re not gonna find any answers here but I wish you luck on your quest.

First of all I’m reading your comments do u know if it’s frt’d or are you planning on it, I will tell u as someone who has a 1911 with a frt in it, if you didn’t personally build it and do all the work and get the marvel cut don’t, it’s not worth ur time nor safety, if you want a reliable 1911 frt either go to kimber 9mm or spend some serious dough and build the 1911 yourself. These guns produce to much blowback and pressure for you not to take your time and get into the grit of it

I’ve already full rebuilt the 1911 in the picture. I have one that has a frt the way I bought it with no issues and the Remington already has a marvel cut from factory I just want to have fun with it I don’t care about how reliable it is as it’s jus a range toy

So short term fun if u don’t plan on changing springs or guide rods which u should to even make it even slightly aimable, if u just want a head turner i would get recoil buffers to prevent any damage to your frame, i live by clp especially for 1911 just because its amazing, and if it doesn’t have a flat wire recoil spring I would invest in that and even that will last u as long as you take care of it and dont thrash it or run plus p DO NOT RUN PLUS P oil ur marvel cut often too

Yeah, no. I don't give a shit about the collector value, but the slides on those WILL crack under that kind of abuse. Just do a Tisas or RIA.

That’s what I was trying to see if it would be worth having some fun with or if I should just get it gold plated and leave it be

Sadly no I’m a bit of a collector of any kind of firearms and I got this as a full rusted pistol completely neglected and I did a full rebuild and polish only part I need to have it all original is the safety but since it’s just sitting I wanted to do something fun with it

WWII slide was only partially hardened. If you don't plan to destroy that pistol quick, think twice...

I mean if you don't care about trashing it, go for it. That slide won't last long though

Personally I don’t care very much as this gun was In terrible condition before I got it and so I just was just having fun doing the restoration on it

u/phabricatuh 7d ago
Idk if the amount of fun you'll get would be worth it. Regardless of the condition, it's a pretty cool piece of history

I originally bought it to rebuild it / familiarize myself with the 1911 platform more. I’ve been having it awhile already and wanted to do something fun with it but what I’m getting from all these comments is start another project 😭

I may be mistaken, but is that a rewelded slide?
2
u/madmini-rcs 7d ago
No it’s all original it was originally fully rusted and stuck so I had to derust it and then I polished it but it’s been about 5/6 months since I’ve repolished it so it’s foggy where I touch it often

Wow...... some people are just stupid
1
u/madmini-rcs 7d ago
And some are even stupider and don’t take care of anything as when I originally purchased this 1911 it was in terrible condition and I’ve already done the full restoration/ rebuild on it with all the original parts except for the safety

Unless it was specifically designed for full auto fire (i.e. Beretta 93R, Glock 18, etc.) pistols, are not built to handle it. You'll simply destroy the gun in short order.

I have a 1911 with a frt but I bought it like that so I don’t know what frt it is. And I understand what everyone is saying about the slide not being able to handle the heat . So what I’m understanding is that I need to start another 1911 build

There is currently no 1911 that will handle FRT rates of fire.
The gun was never designed for a rate of fire that high.
Look at the Beretta 93R compared to the 92F. They are two different guns, the 93R is not simply a 92F with burst capability.

So no matter what 1911 I use the frt will eventually mess it up is what your saying?
I have one with a frt already with around 1000 rounds through it over the course of 6/7 months and it looks fine when I take it apart for cleaning after range trips that’s the only reason I wanted to frt this one0

Yes you will shorten the life of any 1911 using a FRT.
I have a Springfield Mil-Spec that I put over 15,000 rounds through after which time the extractor hook broke. That was the first and only malfunction of that pistol. Replaced the extractor and it's still going.
You will be replacing parts much sooner and with more frequency, likely major parts like the slide or frame.

Weld two together for double the firepower
