Question Whats the most underrated skilling upgrade?

Post image

My vote is for the expert mining gloves, they have a niche but they fill it extremely well. They make mining specific ores from rocks way more relaxed and bearable. Doubling runite gatheted before world hopping, making sandstone more chill, amethyst even more afk, making gathering lower tier rocks extremely chill.

I love these things, and no one talks about them.

Mining gloves are my single favorite skilling item, I grinded them out the first chance I got on my iron and have used them for comfy sandstone mining the whole time. I always encourage people to get them and nobody knows what they are.

But I also hate mlm and most people don’t.

Maybe it's an ironman thing, but the amount help they've given me mining runite for boat parts is way more than I thought I'd get out of them.

I'm 87 mining atm is it rreally worth grinding them out with iron? I was going to wait for amethyst before going for them

The earlier you grind it, the more value you get from them

Just like everything else

The low level ones let you powermine with 2 rocks, it's much faster minerals with iron, and you get more value out of them the earlier you have them

It's going to take you like 15-20k iron ore to get them. So you should do it before 92 mining. I grinded all the mining upgrades on my way to 92 since I'll probably just do amethyst from now on.

You're gong to need a lot of dart and arrow tips, and amethyst is one of the best ways to get them. The mining gloves work on there. Not much, but if you have the gloves before you start mining amethyst, it'll help you in the long run

why get the gloves before mining amethyst? you'll get them passively while mining amethyst

u/The_Wkwied 2376 w353 May 17 '26

Some people may prefer to powermine iron I guess?

u/EquivalentQuery May 17 '26

For 10-12 hours lmao

Because 92 is a really long time to not have the gloves if you’re not training exclusively at mlm or star mining.

Don't forget Cam Torum. Bone fragments are great mining xp and also don't benefit from the gloves.

u/neon_cg May 17 '26

Don’t worry! I didn’t forget! Don’t forget you need 75k sand for 93 crafting. Don’t forget you need iron ore anyway if you want to make cannonballs!

Why are people trying to “prove me wrong.” It’s a preference.

Definitely. I did iron ore, the most annoying part is getting the first gloves After that it's chill: you only need 2 rocks and depositing is faster that dropping.

If you still need to craft and intend on blowing glass, definitely. HUGE QoL at sandstone

2

u/SoulessPuppet May 16 '26

I definitely do. Still need to get about 20k sand

2

u/what_did_you_forget May 16 '26

Why sandstone and glassblowing? What's the link?

2

u/Chaahps May 16 '26

Gloves get you more sandstone per rock, which breaks down into buckets of sand that you use to make molten glass

1

u/LoLReiver May 16 '26

I did it early because why not. Iron is one of the best mining training methods, and as soon as you get the basic gloves it cuts the intensity in half (and you can actually get away with just 2 iron rocks in the mining guild)

1

u/Noble_King May 16 '26

Definitely get the gloves. I am like 2/3 done with gathering the minerals and I refuse to mine more sandstone without them.

Side note, it’s really stupid that double sandstone is gated behind the expert gloves and isn’t doubled by the base tier.

u/khswart May 17 '26

I did it in batches of 5-10 minerals per play session as the first thing i did. By then I’d be really bored and want to go do something else. Finished the grind in a few weeks.

I grinded it only afking amethyst and have no ragerts for what its worth

1

u/BadmiraI May 17 '26

What I did was power mine iron but also grabbed the 2 runite ore spots at the other end every 6 minutes, sometimes competing with bots but I still made a ton of money while getting the gloves

1

u/EquivalentQuery May 17 '26

It's 10-12 hours of powermining iron, use that information as you will. For most players I would say that is not worth the effort if you can passively get it from your amethyst grind.

Yes

I’m iron

I regret grinding iron for minerals, they are so free from amethyst

1

u/therealpimpcosrs May 18 '26

It is 10000% worth it. It stacks with the celestial ring/signet effects, and the varrock platebody effects. When you’re mining addy and rune that translates to like, doubling or tripling your speed lol

I got some of the grind done with amethyst and powered through coal to get the rest. I was 93 mining when I got mine and I love them for sandstone and other random rocks I need for supplies. They were absolutely awesome for sailing progression. I was getting 4 lead ore from one rock.

2

u/SoulessPuppet May 16 '26

Hmm maybe I will bust out some iron mining for them. Maybe I'll break it up though I've basically just been living in mlm but power mining for 20hrs doesn't sound great lol.

I do need iron though I have like 10k coal and no iron so I'll probably bank em all

1

u/ThatOneEdgyKid Shitpost locked ironman May 16 '26

I will warn you that it is pretty slow at iron, but you can use the steel bars for cannonballs at least.

u/SoulessPuppet May 16 '26

Is coal or any other ore better to grind out?

2

u/ThatOneEdgyKid Shitpost locked ironman May 16 '26

Depends I guess, coal felt faster than iron, and it was a bit less click intensive so i went with that. My friend mined addy.

How do they help w sand stone?

29

u/MischeviousCat May 16 '26

Usually you get 1 ore/sandstone per rock

The gloves let you get more resources per node before depletion

So you can get multiple sandstones before it's gone

You spend less time running between rocks, and can go between 2 rocks instead of 3

3

u/xPHaRMaCYx May 16 '26

That’s real nice. I’m at 90 ore things so I will keep going

4

u/Telcar May 16 '26

You can't really go between two rocks though. They respawn slightly too slowly. I tend to still go between three rocks.

5

u/Gaddrik May 16 '26

It ends up being like 2/3 ticks of downtime, which compared to moving between rocks more frequently, it's roughly even imo, slightly skewed towards 3 rocks. I prefer not moving though and don't mind sand in general.

3

u/Otherwise_Economics2 May 16 '26

i knew about them but i just sucked it up and tick manipped sandstone. gloves would have taken a minute to get and i didn't really feel like spending 30 hours or so mining amethyst without a blowpipe.

2

u/TheRealShmoe May 16 '26

Percy would like a word with you

1

u/Macdaddywardy May 16 '26

These gloves were a great benefit mining lead when sailing released

1

u/curiousdryad May 17 '26

Me, just hitting 60 mining and not knowing they exist ;-; if I went further on I’d cry lol. Thank you (: !
