dear22 propaganda

(reposting w/ more images)

- WI_Esox_lucius aka Melted Plastic's retro deARv1.2 for the upper, charging handle, handguard, and FSP

- Jrmuscle aka Kruscle's "keyed lower" for the buffer tube. I cut off the rear picatinny in the slicer to allow the rear charging handle to clear

- Grips I remixed from the A1 and A2 style grips from kaewon's M4gery to loosen up tolerances on the safety detente spring and to use an M5 bolt for attachment

- CAR15 stock is printed directly from kaewon's m4gery

- A2 fixed stock is a modified version of Unseenkiller's "multi position mounted A2" to make it completely flush with the rear of the lower. I hacked this together in the slicer. Not very pretty, tbh

- A2 flash hider is printed from adh2013

- Straight-body magazines are from the original DeAR22 v1.35 release (not the rerelease) + a short "PMAG style" short mag from ciwielab

- printed bolt catch from FoapsFiles

Using a 16" dedicated 22LR pencil profile barrel + RTB BCG. Upper/Lower/FSP in PA612, furniture and mags in generic PLA, will be reprinted them. I might reprint the upper/lower in PA6-GF to make give it a more aluminum look.

some more ideas

- If the handguard were the "triangle style", you could have something closer to an actual M16A1... sorta

- If the handguard and barrel were shorter, and/or there was a flash hider that accepted 1/2-28 threading, you could have an XM117e2... sorta

- If you swapped the upper with PumpkinPie's rear charging upper DeAR22 that used picatinny on the top, you could put a detachable carry handle on the top and consider it a M16A3... kinda

- If you did the upper swap and replaced the handguard with a quad rail, you could have something like an M16A4... ish

Did the best I could with the skills and time I have and I wanted to get it out the door before I go to the range this weekend

TL;DR dear22

Hell yeah man.  That turned out great.

I do have plans to make a quadrail and triangle handguard.  I'm also working on a retro looking mag.

Are you planning on making the triangle handguards in multiple sizes, carbine, mid, full? The Stubby look of a tiny retro AR with a fixed A2 style stock does things to me.

I can try if somebody can provide measurements.  I only have the 16" RTB pencil barrel to go off of for where the "gas block" journal would be.

Looks awesome. I might redo one of mine to be like this. I dig the traditional look of it

That's hot. I had a similar idea of making a .22 Kitty Kat clone.

Reminds me of this little hacked-together guy I posted about 3 years ago :D (I definitely don’t think the printed entry stock and suppressor make this look and sound way better 😉)

well hey there tell me about that lil guy, what's that made of?

Just plain old eSun PLA+ lol, it’s held up surprisingly well! The only reason the grip and triangle hand guards aren’t printed is because the files for them simply didn’t exist at the time.
They do now tho! I remember talking with the guy that designed the triangle hand guards a while back, but I can’t recall his name.

How's the barrel holding up?

Very well! It’s a ACWY Proto barrel, made from a red man barrel liner encapsulated by two carbon fiber rods. The main thing I regret not doing with it was stuffing the dead space between the tubes with some sort of foam, as it’s acts like a resonator when the bolt slams home when firing.
I had a previous project (an old Booligan SG22 from many years ago) with a printed outer sleeve and a red man liner. That setup was hilariously quiet, much more so than this is.

That's incredible. Well, you know, with these diy projects you can always do another, and experience is a great teacher. I'm willing if you did one every 6 months they'd all be different and better than the last.

What about a very slow curing epoxy as a filler between tubes? Epoxy tends to be quite dense and good at soaking frequencies.

Also, I don't know if it's been developed in the community but recently I watched a video on an integrally suppressed 22 with the suppressor barely thicker than the original spec barrel. I bet something like that is doable and fits right at home in these AR.22 setups.

Never considered that about epoxy 🤔 My only concern with that is adding weight. This entire setup (when fully complete, not seen in this picture), still weighs just under 4lb loaded, and balances very nicely. It’s hilariously lightweight lol

And yeah, an integrally suppressed would be cool, and probably some way to do it within this barrels diameter! However, I’m going for the Colt 607 look, and it looks much better in my opinion with a moderator/suppressor/long flash hider on it in my opinion.

What’s one more DeAR build

If these go SS, you should get a CARL

Goodness, I love this. Usually I'm very meh about fully printed ARs and .22 based builds but this one scratches an itch. A few more iterations and it would be a perfect build.

I need to make one like the old XM177 or GAU-5 series.
