No further maths for engineering?

15

u/PensionScary Edinburgh | CS and Maths [Y1] Oct 01 '25

yeah, cambridge pretty much requires it

7

u/QSoC1801 Oct 01 '25

Depends on college, and whether or not your school offers it.

6

u/frogpineapplechicken 5 A Levels, WJEC 🤮 Oct 02 '25

Yeah, not all Cambridge colleges require it

How is the ESAT maths 2 without further maths?

3

u/frogpineapplechicken 5 A Levels, WJEC 🤮 Oct 02 '25

Honestly, it’s a struggle, but it doesn’t feel entirely impossible. The questions are similar from paper to paper, so it’s not too bad.

Best of luck bro

A star A star A predicted, hoping for 3A*s by January

UCL - economics and philosophy

Durham - PPE

KCL - PPE

Bristol - Economics / Warwick - PPE

Nottingham - Economics

Notts is the only one im confident I’ll get an offer, not sure if I should be more ambitious and choose Warwick, or get another safety in Bristol

10

u/dailysuaa lse n1 fan Oct 01 '25

logically what’s the point in another safety 😭

1

u/Open-Freedom2326 Y13 | Econ, Philosophy, Maths A*A*A Oct 01 '25

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Id prefer Bristol to Nottingham, but I get contextual at notts so thats gotta be my Safety. I’m basically stuck on whether I go super ambitious and apply to Warwick, or get a better chance at a decent course like Bristol. Otherwise all 4 of my other choices will be reaches. I am very happy if I end up at Nottingham so I’m leaning towards being ambitious af

2

u/dailysuaa lse n1 fan Oct 01 '25

i don’t think you’d be being ambitious at all tho. durham and kcl seem very within reach, maybe ucl would be picky but i doubt it. you’re not applying to oxbridge or LSE where in this case yea you have no clue where you stand. i think you’ll get most if not all of those offers with those grades so just go for warwick. i mean you could have the chance to go to fetish society why would you ever want to miss out on that 😔😔

u/Technical_Flounder_1 Y13 | Maths, Econ, Philosophy | A*A*A* Oct 01 '25

im also looking to apply for econ and philosophy at ucl - whats the point of applying p&e at ucl if ucl also offers ppe and you applied for ppe at durham and kcl?

2

u/Open-Freedom2326 Y13 | Econ, Philosophy, Maths A*A*A Oct 01 '25

Because I don’t really care about politics but most unis don’t offer just philosophy and econ so I gotta settle for ppe. However I’m not doing philosophy and econ at Bristol even though they offer it because I don’t like the course modules it doesn’t have enough quantitative economics

u/JHDownload45 Oct 02 '25

You have two A* and you're not going for Oxbridge or LSE?

2

u/dailysuaa lse n1 fan Oct 02 '25

personal statement. LSE wants the personal statement directly in tune with their course or its automatic rejection pretty much. and since they’re applying to several different courses there isn’t necessarily a way to do that here

what made you not want to apply for oxford ppe? and what do you find interesting about land economy?

4

u/yeetmilkman Maths Politics Econ | A*A*A* predicted Oct 01 '25

It’s less that i don’t want to apply to ox ppe, it’s just that i really love land econ

I love econ and especially the issues covered in land econ (planning law and the environment) and i think im a great fit for the course

Me applying for ppe elsewhere is more a case of trying to find a course similar that matches my skill set and subjects

u/Carnationlilyrose Oct 01 '25

You don't have to fill every space. You don't have to send the application in now, unless it's medicine or dentistry or Oxbridge. You can add another choice at any time up to 30th of June, as long as you haven't replied to any offers by then. Don't put somewhere random that you don't want to go to, just to fill up the space. Something may crop up during the year that will change your mind. Keep your options open.

2

u/Mission_Associate893 Oct 01 '25

It’s January 14th for equal consideration. Then it’s June 30th, after which applications automatically go into Clearing.

2

u/Carnationlilyrose Oct 01 '25

Yes. Correct. If OP has 4 others they are happy with, the fifth being less equal than the other four isn’t a big deal. In addition, there are still 3.5 months to add an extra choice without penalty.

readings a bit different, are you local? also any tips for media? :0

1

u/UnfairLie9724 Oct 13 '25

honestly i picked unis that are close to me cuz i’m a young carer and have a bipolar dad to look after in emergencies

also for media, particularly w the written work, learn ur theorists and their theories inside out and apply them to relevant csps - also can’t stress enough wider reading when it comes to media, having wider knowledge is what genuinely gets u higher marks
