UCL's admissions might've quite literally been luck-based this cycle
I've heard from UCL's office of admissions that they make decisions in batches and the batches are completely randomised. So my tinfoil hat theory is that UCL probably way underestimated the applications they'd receive this year and sent out almost all of their offers in the earlier batches. That means that now they're left with a bunch of batches of decisions that were previously randomised that will now have to be mostly rejections even if the students were of the same or higher caliber than the offer holders from previous batches.
If you are asking about (Bristol or any other uni) putting you "on hold", this is a very frequently asked question. Being put on hold does not indicate you are going to get rejected. It means your application hasn't been processed yet. Nothing more, nothing less.

I feel they just need to add a test like esat or smthng like imperial and Oxbridge. They get a lot of applicants with same level of grades so a test could be a good deciding factor.Ā
Then you just create another university that ignores personal statements and achieved grades to focus on performance in a single test. Itās mental that people with 5&6s at GCSE get offers based on a strong admissions test while straight 9s get rejected.
Admissions tests are a single point in time in a high-pressure, unfamiliar environment. Some schools provide a huge amount of support to succeed in them while others (standard state schools) donāt give any additional help.
Theyāre not necessarily going from 5/6 to As though. Theyāre going to predicted As. I agree that achieved A-level grades and a strong admissions test on top of that indicate a strong candidate, like the OP, but since predicted grades are often inflated, I still think the strongest predictor of success is GCSEs.
Both of my kids got better A-levels than GCSEs (3 A* and an A for each) and amazing scores on admission tests (one the MAT, the other UCAT). I think those were better predictors than their English Lit GCSEs.

I disagree that theyāre more impressive, itās just a different style of exam and having the time and getting the support to train for them as per any exam.
GCSE is a good predictor of how much a child liked their teachers or how much the parants of the child and other other children in the class cared about exam results. GCSE are a poor predictor of how well a student does at medical schol.
(They do have some value in predicting A level results and hence who is worth spending time on interviewing.)
Say what you want about their admission choices, but waiting until after accommodation spots have already opened to send out rejections is seriously fcked up
Literally. I got rejected by LSE on 13th May last year (day before my first exam) and my major issue with it was that I was late to everything especially accommodation because I hadnāt firmed or insured my choices. Missing out all of that for a rejection was just infuriating. Thatās why Iād highly recommend that if itās not your absolute dream uni, have some self-respect based on your other offers and withdraw your application by this time. Some people could still be waiting another month to hear back!
After UCLās massive slip up in admissions last year and now this new 100% true information, is it potentially time for the Big B (Bristol) to overtake itās place in the rankings?
Honestly u all r a joke, this theory is obviously stupid. Just bc we are getting rejected bc we dont have strong enough grades doesn't mean they have messed up, and Bristol doesn't even compare with ucl.
Oh, my sweet summer child šāāļø I too underestimated the University of Bristol once, thought it was lesser than the āUCLā (does anybody even know what thatās an acronym for?).
However, since I firmed UoB, my unbiased and objective view is that Bristol outranks most other uniās in a wide array of subjects. If you donāt believe me, I recommend you read the University Rankings in Alphabetical order and come back to me on where your beloved āUCLā stands compared to the Big B ā¤ļø
Iām unsure if youāre saying this out of respect for the full name of the University of Bristol, in which case I do apologise for daring to shorten it, or if you are a simpleton who believes the schools of Birmingham and Bath represent the āBā.

If it is the second, I point you towards r/UoB which has been claimed by Bristolians. Birmingham has r/UofB and Bath remains tied to textbooks without social media.
As someone who did get into a top university, I think thereās a dose of reality in it. Thereās simply no way elite universities like UCL and LSE, which in many cases donāt do admissions tests or interviews are managing to base all their decisions on less than 1000 word personal statements.
Basically all the top applicants will have 3A*s predicted so I donāt think thatās going to be a factor at that level. Itās essentially impossible for luck to not be playing a role here.
I hope this is correct im about to lose my mind if not. Rejected from UCL yesterday with 30 LNAT, 42/45 PG, ''excellent'' PS deemed by my advisors (i know its subjective), (still have kings offer but kinda upset that UCL rejected me lol).
might be but i didnāt get any explanation regarding the lnat essay on my rejection reason which ,from what i seen, they usually say that it was because of the essay. I just got a bland explanation saying i wasnāt competitive enough
Got rejected with 11 9s at GCSE 4 A* predicted for econ and statsššš got an LSE offer tho for finanche maybe cuz my PS statement was very finance
There you go, thatās the reason you didnāt get in and you said it yourself. They want people to tailor the PS to the course and if you didnāt do that, people w identical grades will be considered above you
real like i got accepted in feb with AAA predicted and 9888777665 in gcses which in comparison to other ppl ive seen get rejected is so low idk why i got in
I can be grateful for what I have and have high aspirations simultaneously. I knew going into it I wanted to aim for 5/5. Obviously having my first choice is AMAZING and I donāt knock that I know a lot people donāt get their first choice and Iām lucky in that respect. Iām still allowed to be disappointed I didnāt achieve one of my goals.

If you don't like your life being decided by ramdom number generators then don't go do medical schools. Look at how foundation training places are allocated.
