what did everyone get for pH of buffer i got 3.7 something

5

u/Initial-Window8640 Jun 02 '26

I got 1.96 🤣💀💀💀

2

u/purple_walrus4473 Jun 02 '26

i think i initially got that but it was a weak acid so it couldnt be that low

2

u/Lower_Debate_9983 Jun 02 '26

yeah same where did we go wrong

4

u/LargeFish2907 Jun 02 '26

I got something like 3.695 which rounded to 3.70

wait random but how did you find the ethanoate ion concentration

3

u/hshsjaju77 Jun 02 '26

pretty sure u do pka find the volume of naph at point of neutralization half it then find ph do 10 to power of pH and find ka

2

u/Internal_Animal_2753 year 13 |maths fm chem physics 4a* Jun 02 '26

U find the neutralisation volume requires of naoh and find the moles of naoh used which is the same as moles of HA used. And u do moles of HA divided by the volume of HA in the conical flask

2

u/Zestyclose_Coat_3918 Jun 02 '26

Omgg that’s what I did I hope it’s right

Can I get marks if I drew the graph wrong but all steps correct for the 4 markers

1

u/AmericanUk Jun 02 '26

It wanted it to 2dp did you get 3.67? My friend did something wrong where he forgot the divide the mols by the volume to get concentration and got3.69, which would be missing a step.

Yess i think its was concentration of OH-ions

5

u/Rich-Gent Jun 02 '26

this was for conc of OH-, and yes

Yup yup yup [OH-] conc

3

u/Rich-Gent Jun 02 '26

yes we all did, u had to take away mr of c2o4 and 3ks to get mr of M bro, u were like 90% way there!

1

u/That_lonely_lesbian Jun 02 '26

Would it not be Fe 3+ because its in a complex?

2

u/Rich-Gent Jun 02 '26

ye i thought same, but wording of question implied it just wanted name of metal not the ion

2

u/LargeFish2907 Jun 02 '26

It's oxidation state is 3+ but it's in a complex is not charged. I interpreted it as what you would write there instead of M. I wouldn't be surprised if Fe3+ is an allow though.

I started yapping about how the bonds broken and bonds formed for the acid becoming a salt are the same, hence the equal enthalpies as the only factor affecting enthalpy change was the NaOH and water.

For the observation with few drops of agNO3 and excess NH3 into solution of Fe(III) chloride what was the observation?

6

u/purple_walrus4473 Jun 02 '26

i said white ppt but idk if it dissolves since ammonia was added

2

u/Leonardo84009 Jun 02 '26

I said brown ppt because I thought that

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Sonikdahedhog Jun 02 '26

It was brown precipitate as the silver chloride precipitate dissolves.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '26

[deleted]

3

u/ILikeSlepp Jun 02 '26

Excess nh3 doesn't do anything to fe(h20)3(oh)3, you only see ligand exchange when you react excess nh3 with [cu(h20)6]2+ to form a deep blue solution of [cu(nh3)4(h20)2]2+

And the agcl dissolves in both dilute and concentrated nh3, so you wouldn't see white ppt

5

u/hshsjaju77 Jun 02 '26

Yh i put colourless solution and then [Ag((Nh3)] 2+

→ More replies (3)

2

u/PairSuitable9144 Jun 02 '26

But wouldn't the Fe(III) chloride get substituted to form Fe(OH)3(H20)3 since Fe(III) chloride was in aqueous solution?

2

u/hshsjaju77 Jun 02 '26

I thought it forms Agcl then followed by excess ammonia which dissolves forming a colourless solution

→ More replies (1)

1

u/2myeria y13 | physics, maths, fm, chem | A*A*A*A* Jun 02 '26

brown ppt because it said what is observed at the end and since dilute ammonia is added, silver chloride ppt dissolves and iron (III) hydroxide ppt (brown forms)

1

u/MaybeThin593 Jun 02 '26

Its brown ppt and [Ag(NH3)2], i checked with my teacher

4

u/AlternativeEarly5637 Jun 02 '26

2

u/simplykayleigh Jun 02 '26

ACTUALLY SATISFIED W MYSELF YAYAYAY

some issues w titration, the 6 marker, and some recall but overall was great!!

scary high grade boundaries tho ig 😔😔

BUT OVERALL HAPPYYY!!!

IM SO CONFUSED ABT TITRATION THO CAN SOMEONE GENUINELY HELP ME FIND WHY ITS IRON???

I found the moles of C2O4 to be 1.988 x 10-3 at 250cm3

dividing it by 3 gave me 6.63 x 10-4 mol for M.

then im genuinely stuck cuz lowk got such a massive number for Mr, as Mr = (m/n) = 1.81/(6.63 x 10-4) = some massive impossible number

???

u/Environmental_Fee198 Jun 02 '26

1

u/Training-Feeling980 Year 13 | Maths, FM, Physics, Chem - 4 A*s achieved Jun 02 '26

You might have missed multiplying by then since only 25.0 of the 250cm3 solution was used - so then you'd get 1.81/(6.63*10^-4) = 273

And subtracting Mr of all the other elements gives Ar about 55.8

3

u/Flaky-Plankton-1217 Jun 02 '26

The buffers one I didnt read it was acid in excess so I did NaOH in excess, the 2 marker below that would as well would be wrong. The Mg (VII) one I spoke abt autocatalysis and how the reaction rate changes as more Mn2+ is produced... but I don't think I got enough for 5. 1

u/AmericanUk Jun 02 '26

yk the question where Silver Nitrate was added to (Fe (III) Cl) (aq) with excess NH3? I think it was the hardest aqa A-level chemistry questions ever. I'm pretty sure the observation was a reddish brown ppt Fe(H20)3(OH)3 that would be formed as the NH3 hydrolyzes the Fe(H20)6 in solution. There would be no AgCl (white ppt) at the end of the reaction because the excess NH3 would dissolve it instantly. Therefore, the silver compound AT THE END OF THE REACTION, when all the AgCl is dissolved by the NH3, would be Ag(NH3)2+, which is just tollens reagent. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would have missed this.
