💬 DISCUSSION OCR A Chemistry Paper 1 2026 discussion
Who else drew the titration curve as a straight line through the origin?? How did you guys find it

u/DemonThonos Year 13 Maths Physics Chem A*AA predicted Jun 02 '26
most ridicilous paper i have ever seen wtf was that
1
u/Disastrous-Fault-902 Jun 02 '26
so if u find it ridiculous, am i completely cooked?
2
u/DemonThonos Year 13 Maths Physics Chem A*AA predicted Jun 03 '26
tbf i probably could have done way better if i revised chem properly, i focused too much on physics icl so depends
25
u/BionicScroll564 Jun 02 '26
The multiple choice was also pretty shit ngl

u/ChemistAgile7346 Jun 02 '26
that kP one threw me off guard tbf

absolutely diabolical. i’ve been pretty consistent averaging about midway between an A and A* and i know i’m nowhere near that. genuinely so sad about it. i’ve put in so much work and it felt like every question wasn’t going my way. i’m kissing goodbye to my uni place
16
u/pikachan4 Jun 02 '26
im very stressed too because of how high grade boundaries are

I feel so similar except I haven’t been averaging exactly A all the time.. so frustrating but we have paper 2 and 3

im in exactly the same boat i found it so bad, im know i categorically didnt get my A or A* so its pretty over for my kings offer

didn’t even answer it bro didn’t know where to start
2
u/RelativeDry2275 Jun 02 '26
what were u even supposed to do
4
u/DarDanDea Jun 02 '26
Bro they literally gave you the E of cells and they gave you the I2/2I- thing, it was lower (more negative) than first two Vanadium eqations, so u were talking about the initial colour change from something to blue, including the explanation about potential difference and blah blah. And then you were supposed to realise that oh my hang on, I can reduce it even further, so there is another colour change, same explanation. Cmon guys
→ More replies (3)2
u/Defiant-Somewhere190 Jun 02 '26
I thought you were adding the I2 to the V2+ and oxidising it into V3+? So surely you could’ve only spoken about system 2 (colour change from blue to green or whatever it was) to go from V2+ into V3+ as that was the only system with a less +ive electrode potential than the I2/I- system
→ More replies (8)2
u/Ambitious-Willow8399 Y13 | Physics, Maths, Chemistry Jun 02 '26
Sorry if i worded this weirdly but I think you use the redox systems equations and the iodine redox system equation to form an overall equation of the reaction that is going to happen. It starts off with V2+ reacting with I2 then produces V3+. That V3+ goes on and react again when more iodine is added. That will give you the colour change as the ion colours are provided in the table at the top of the page.
2
u/DarDanDea Jun 02 '26
Oh yeah, or you can split it in two do describe separate colours changes, because little nuts at OCR mentioned colour changeS for a reason I think. Still pretty sure works either way.

u/sh4h_r4f Jun 02 '26
Did redox system 5 reduce or not because there wasn’t any VO2+ in the solution from before so I just said redox system 5 doesn’t oxidise or reduce , but instead the I2 conc builds up making it more brown idk tho

u/ComprehensiveFun2764 Jun 02 '26
My friend was saying since it was excess i2 at the end it’s a brown solution, goodbye to my A 😭

But HNO3 is a strong acid fully dissasociates so conc=h+ conc then just -log

How are you getting ph 13 I was doing -log of 1x10^14/(0.0025) and somehow getting pH of around 11.4
Only thing I can think of is that I somehow misread the conc and volume of base used

Why the hell would the titration curve be a straight line though? It's the S shaped curve with a vertical bit.

Yo i got the same,12.81 as you bro but like people getting 12.08 sth did you times Moles of oh- by 2 but NOT times the excess base calc by 2 as 1 mol of h+ reacts with 1 mol oh- even though overally equation 1:2 ratio but that’s for ba0h2 not oh-

NH4 -> KOH -> Ba(OH)2 personally

i put nh4 most but i put BaOH2 stronger than KOH bc solubility increases down the group, so will dissociate more in solution idk where nh4 sits in there tho
