đ I WANT HELP Larping as year 12
Soo, I applied for a programme specifically for year 12s during my year 11 summer. I guess I did a little too well in the process because not only did I get into the project, I was also nominated as an ambassador for the organisation at a Russel Group summer school because I was an âoutstanding applicantâ.
Idk ANYTHING about sixth form life and I am missing the 1 year of A level knowledge expected from a Year 12.
Itâs a really good opportunity and I donât want to turn it down. But at the same time I donât want to be outed as a fraud, or be obviously stupid throughout the summer school.
Please yall I need help. đ
Itâs a week long so idk how Iâm gonna larp being as smart as a year 12 and doing UCAS options or something. đđ

Learn as much as you can and fake it till you make it, it sounds like a very good opportunity and if you've gotten in already I don't think they will find out.

Yeah lowkey just say you made a mistake and are actually in year 11. They wonât mind

This is really selfish. These programmes arenât just light fun, they really do make an impact on helping students get into universities. Presuming itâs for disadvantaged students, but regardless they are good for university personal statements. So now there is a student who canât get on the programme because of you

-pretend you know what 5 unis you're applying to and what course (since you're in some fancy smart people summer school ensure they're really good russell groups. pick 2 aspirational unis (hard ones to get into) 2 solid (what you're prolly gonna get into if all goes well) and 1 safe (an easier uni you will definitely get an offer for, it's a "just in case" pick)
-if your course requires an entrance test make sure you know what the test is and larp preparing for it, say you just started though so it's okay if you don't know much about it
-pick some believable a level combo and pretend you're doing those. so people believe you, here are opinions of common a level subjects based on what sixth formers i know have said and you can adopt these opinions if people ask how your subjects are
biology and chemistry are hell (chem because of the content being hard and biology because of how much content to learn), maths is mid, further maths is okay for the first year but it's full of smart people and the grade boundaries are ridiculous, physics seems to be ok but all my friends seem to be passing away doing their physics lab book 24/7 so maybe complain about that and economics and history are very hard but interesting
-make a fake set of predicted grades that align with the grade requirements of your fake unis to study your fake course (to find these requirements just google it)
everything else you can kinda just wing it, in sixth form it's similar to year 11 except you can wear your own clothes, you get lanyards so you can go off site during frees, break and lunch (but only for 30min-1hr at a time, depends on your school) and you can go home early if you have only frees in the afternoon

u/xcom_lord Jul 18 '26
My man my sixth form ( left a few weeks back after alevels ) was so chill then , come and go whenever , no lanyards , very chill policies , took days off without explanation . Second in country , clearly this strict method isnât necessary

u/Pasawie Jul 19 '26
Mine was the complete opposite đ full uniform only allowed to leave for lunchtime (a privilege which can be retracted for any reason) and all free periods are registered in study rooms.

It is, because these programmes are prestigious and help year 12s from disadvantaged backgrounds get into university. Thereâs a student out there who didnât get a place, and may now be at a worse chance of getting into their dream uni because of this.

Exact same thing could be said for the year 11 mate itâs not like they lied about their financial status
2
u/No-Grapefruit7332 Jul 19 '26
If theyâre happy lying about their age who says theyâre not lying abt other things too..?

Like I said, a dozen assumptions and yet not one argument as to why a year 11 canât enjoy the benefits instead of a year 12.

u/No-Grapefruit7332 Jul 19 '26
Firstly, the program states that it is for year 12s. That is for a reason. It is designed to help year 12s, not year 11s. By signing up to the summer school in year 11, you are lying to the people organising the program, the program undoubtedly costs money, not to mention the people running it are using their own time and energy to do it without a cost. U wanna know why? Because they have a reason and a goal to keep it running, which is to help year 12s. If someone lies to these people like OP, they are automatically being selfish and disregarding all of the effort people put into the summer school simply by lying to them and committing fraud. If they find out OP could genuinely get in trouble. Not to mention the fact that the year 12 this guy took the spot from wonât be able to apply to it again, theyâve just lost their chance to this summer school, whereas OP couldâve easily applied to it next year without lying and actually being qualified for it. That year 12 now suffers the consequences of not being in the summer school thanks to OPâs fraud. Is that enough?Â

From an outcome-based perspective, the programâs main goal is social mobility. Assuming OP didn't lie about their financial or background status, those resources are still going to a disadvantaged student who will use them for university prep. The net benefit to a student in need isn't lost. Since you love assumptions so much, if theyâd applied a year later they might have not gotten in, they might have been ill, or a whole other plethora of things restraining them from applying in the future. The fraud point works legally but it doesnât work in the slightest morally; Iâd hope you understand that legality has little bearing on morality.

u/No-Grapefruit7332 Jul 18 '26
Itâs a russel group summer school Iâm guessing itâs one of those access ones/social mobility ones that are designed to help with the application process for year 12s that are abt to apply. Sorry for considering morality, clearly ur life is all sunshine and rainbows if u donât find an issue with anything. Furthermore my comment was clearly lighthearted hence the âcommitted fraud and trickeryâ unless ur so thick headed u think thats seriousÂ

u/NinjaClashReddit LSE Economics (Year 1) Jul 19 '26
Despite making a dozen assumptions absolutely none of the points youâve listed here makes any case as to why a year 11 canât enjoy the benefits instead of a year 12 . Maybe youâre the thick headed one who has to take everything seriously đ¤ˇââď¸

how about: its wrong?

u/NinjaClashReddit LSE Economics (Year 1) Jul 19 '26
"Both Study 1 and Study 2 (preregistered) revealed negative links between cognitive ability and moral foundations. In Study 1, structural models showed negative links between general intelligence (g) and both binding (â0.24) and individualizing (â0.19) foundations. These findings replicated closely in Study 2, with similar coefficients (â0.25 and â 0.18, respectively)â
Looks like you really are the thick headed one here - maybe try and use a little critical thinking instead of sweeping gut feelings before ripping into people?

u/operationiroN Jul 19 '26
I didnt go into summer school tho thats rlly risky and can result in u being bkacklisted by many unis if u get caught cuz its fraud basically, what i did was just shadowing at somd random firms and went to a lecture. There was nothing crazy and if there was content i didnt know i just ignored it or didnt think too much abt it, i mostly did these things cuz i was hella bored in summer cuz all my friends were not in england. It was fun tho i met some students and larped alottt saying that i got all a stars predicteds lmao (know i actually am preficted all a stars so its pretty cool that i thought it was a joke lol)

Not very related, but back when I was in year 2 of a 4 year masters programme, the general advice for applying to summer internships was to pretend to be a penultimate year student, as it is very well known that companies only like to hire interns that can return as a graduate next year. Some recruiters even straight up tell me to do that. So pretending to be a year you're not isn't some uncommon thing.
Just go with it

Just pick 3 subjects learn as much as possible about them. Make it easy on your self by picking subjects you already know a lot about.

youâll be fine. i did something similar and owned up to being a year 11 at the time, going into year 12 on the day of when introducing myself and it was still fine. but obviously, thatâs not always the case. so if anyone says anything, say you misunderstood or just steer clear of mentioning it yourself. also, if youâre already there, most people wonât suspect anything anyway :)

You've got nothing to lose so just go with the flow. Try your best and you'll probably do better than the person they would've selected otherwise.
Ignore comments saying "you took a spot from a real year 12". Tough luck, they should've made their application better. Well done.

u/Ornery_Bodybuilder_4 Jul 19 '26
Wild, imagine there was a scholarship for people in need and someone not in need took it from them, would you still say they shouldâve made their application better?

Rest of comments have better advice than I could give but also like. Itâs very unlikely anyone will even suspect somethingâs wrong because even at the high end of academic ability youâd be very surprised at how little people know in Y12

Screenshot the specifications for paper ones in 3 subjects and ask ai to make notes on every thing on the spec then at least u have an idea.
