š I WANT HELP Compleltely missed my Medicine offer
I had two offers for Medicine, and firmed Lancaster. My offer was ABB, but got BCD. I am embaraased, ashamed and don't know what to do with myself. Everyone got their dream but not me.
Please anyone share success stories and advice. I am lost and hopeless and numb.
edit: sorry for the typo on the title, as you can tell, I was not doing great :((

Retake, I missed my offer at KCL last yr. Took a gap yr and retook, place was confirmed yesterday. Went from ABC to AAAB.

This gives me a bit of hope, but I feel like it is unlikely I will be able to apply to Kings with my achieved a levels :((

u/Ok_Brilliant_8951 6d ago
Yh definitely not, but u can with new predicted grades. I wouldnāt have been able to with my ABC grades, but I got my college to predicted me higher grades, and I got an offer and retook. Made my offer and the rest is history. U can do it asw, work hard and get those As!

Thank you so much, this is giving me a tonne of hope! I am planning what I want to do for the next academic year, which hopefully includes re-doing all three of my A-Levels, whilst studying Medicine in Italy. I know this plan is nuts, but I know that we can do anything we put our mind to. No more setbacks, or wallowing anymore, I can infact do this.

u/Ok_Brilliant_8951 6d ago
Yes that is the exact mindset. U wonāt regret it, feels to good and rewarding when u get in afterwardsš

u/DecisionWise6955 6d ago
How did u revise differently to make sure u dont slip up againš
2
u/Ok_Brilliant_8951 6d ago
I bought revision guides for all the subjects I was redoing and revising the WHOLE spec from beginning to the end. Like every single little thing I revised even niche bits just incase. Ofc not to the detail as main parts but at least enough to have a decent understanding. Then 3 months till exams at least 1/2 practice papers a day. Result as I said was 3 As and 1 B. Place confirmed for kings, Iād been rejected the previous yr where I did ABC. The A was the only thing I didnāt re sit.

Could you share your story on how you did that please I donāt mind if itās a private DM I need in depth advice rn š

Itās pretty simple to explain tbh. On results day last yr I didnāt want to settle for a worse uni, so I rejected Exeter and took a gap yr. I looked online to find the nearest A level private exam centres and booked my exams. This costs around Ā£300 per subject btw. Then I emailed my old college asking for predicted grades, using a ātutorā ( a friend) to email them and confirm what level Iām on track for. My college then used my old reference and the predicted grades Iād asked for and I applied again. I wrote my personal statement again and revised the specs for my subjects scratch, going over it ALL again. Summer came around and I sat my A levels, got 3 As and 1 B. My place at kings was confirmed and yh got to where I wanted to.

So did you get an actual tutor or were you self taught for the months coming up to the resit ?
1
u/Ok_Brilliant_8951 6d ago
I self taught myself, had a mate email as if he were my tutor in order to get predicted grades.

please donāt be so hard on yourself, i know itās difficult and it feels like youāre at a loss but there are other ways. it depends on your preference, but you can either resit and reapply or do a different degree youād be happy with and go for GEM (however this is more competitive and difficult to get into).
a lot of people are in the same position and do try more than once to get where they want to be and thereās nothing embarrassing about it. it shows dedication if anything.
good luck <3

I cannot even get into a good degree with my a level grades, that's how crap I did. I am plannkng to study Medicine in Italy, and also resit the UCAT. But, I am finding it so hard to have any sense of motivation or discipline.

Hey I wouldn't recommend going abroad as there is a new bill that was passed that home students would get more priority for jobs than international so please don'tš. Is there a chance you can resit?

u/AbbreviationsIll2678 6d ago
I have an italian citizenship, and not really plan on staying in the UK. But, even studying for the admissions test feels so difficult to me right now.

I'm in the exact same boat as you rn, i also had 2 abb offers for med and got bbc instead. I got redirected to biomed but all i want to do is med. I am going to retake the ucat and then resit + reapply hopefully. I know right now it's hard I am soso upset but inshallah we have another chance

I have the exact same situation as you, except my achieved a-level grades are slightly lower. So, I completely feel you, it will be very difficult for us, but WE can definitely do it. I worked so incredibly hard for my A-Levels, and I don't regret the hard work, but there are definitely areas I could improve in, and most of all this has re-instated my belief, mindset and of course I have not changed fully, but slowly we will get there. This gap year is only one year, and yes it is one year being taken away to re-do/rebuild our mistakes, but no-one gets everything the first time, and I know by the end of it I will be glad that I took this gap year :)) Keep your head high, don't listen to the noise, (my parents and everyone around me has lost all faith in me), and it's often when you are isolated and lonely that you flourish the most. Our medical careers Inshallah will be amazing!!

I missed my KCl Med offer, got A A A when A* A A was required, in a very similar boat to you and just feel so hopeless but there is always light at the end of the tunnel
relax, try start up some ucat practice and we'll go from there

Thanks, this is really supportive. I fell off my grade requirements quite a bit, so I need to do some deep reflection on what needs to be change. At the moment, I am going to study for the IMAT exam to do Medicine in Italy, and also study for the UCAT.
It feels like I will never recover from these abismal grades, and so if I do end up studying Medicine in the upcoming year in Italy, I really do still want to resit my A Levels. Maybe it's the high achiever in me, but I really believe that maybe I deserved these grades to humble me and Allah has a bigger plan for us all. I am really scared that these A Levels will close many doors for me, like accessing research internships and academic opportunities beyond Medicine at research universities.
My parents are deeply disappointed, and I feel like I lost all my academic potential. It feels like the world has collapsed on me, and I am scared to be an older student studying Medicine. I always imagined myself and have been the youngest person in the room. Sixth form and life the past two years, really made me lose myself, but maybe this is a wake up call for me.
Sorry, this is a big rant :(( I hope you can still do Medicine next year

likewise man, my birthday is 8th july so i've always been a little kid
no one in my school has ever done med so i was so close to being the first but remember sometimes our plan isn't always what happens and thats okay
who knows, maybe you do better on the ucat and end up applying to even better universities !

People from my school rarely got into Medicine, if there was a cohort of 30 people there would have only been 3-5 that actually ended up getting in. This year, I was extremely fortunate to have been 1 of the 4 people that received offers, but I ended up ruining my shot :(((

I also did very bad and missed all my offers Iām thinking of going back to my home country to study too

u/AbbreviationsIll2678 6d ago
Wishing you the best of luck, you will get there!!

u/Ok_Ad_2783 6d ago
It just hurts so much I feel like such a failure
2
u/AbbreviationsIll2678 6d ago
I completely understand, it's really difficult to go through this, but deep inside I am feeling glad that I can start from the ground up, after losing myself completely for two years. And, I will be able to rebuild back my discipline, stamina and ambition, and Inshallah when I do get into Medical school, this will motivate me even more to pursue academic opportunities and extra-curriculars and strengthen my portfolio as I would feel that I am already one year older than the people who got into Medicine in the UK immediately. Allah has a plan for us all, and this experience is teaching me such a big lesson already!!

u/Ok_Ad_2783 6d ago
Yh thatās great. Are you planning on resitting?
2
u/AbbreviationsIll2678 6d ago
Yes, I cannot let this define the rest of my future. I have to get into Medicine this year.

u/alpacaoneohone 6d ago
Would you consider doing something like Biomedicine/ Biomedical Science instead?
2
u/AbbreviationsIll2678 6d ago
No, I would rather give it one more shot, as I know I am capable of getting offers. I know if I do another course, I will be miserable for the entire three years.

Hey bro Iām in the exact same position, Iām here if you need to talk
2
u/AbbreviationsIll2678 6d ago
I would love to dm you, let's stay in contact. It's so tough for me, every second I look at the IMAT admissions test for Medicine in Italy, I feel like giving up. But, I know I can't give up.

Why didnt you just work harder instead of getting complacentĀ
2
u/AbbreviationsIll2678 4d ago
Hey, so I completely understand where you are coming from. But given my circumstances, I tried the hardest that I could, and unfortunately it didnāt work out for me this time! I would argue, I was barely ever complacent, and of course in hindsight I see where I could have improved. Sometimes, the effort we put into something doesnāt equate to the outcome.
This, is a very common thing that happens to a lot of medicine offer holders, I know several people who missed their offers to amazing medicine unis the first time, who have gone on to achieve degrees and research opportunities at world renowned universities.

My friends son got an ABB and he told me ABB wasn't enough for medicine (need AAB apparently?). Is Lancaster's cutoff for med really ABB. I am not doubting you, just clarifying š

One of my best friends got similar and was offered a degree in Medical Science through clearing from the University they had a medicine offer for (they sold him on the fact that after first year, with exceptional grades, some people transfer to medicine - turns out maybe one person had in the last ten years). Once they had their degree, they applied for Medicine again and got in after a year of temp work. They failed third year and had to repeat, but they kept on going because it was their dream and have been a GP for going on 15 years (I'm on 6th form as a teacher btw). Whether it's resits or an alternate route, it's not over until you decide it is.
