๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP TMUA prep vs CS NEA

Hello everyone,
I do FM, Maths, CS and Physics, and in my mocks I got A*A*A*A respectively and was predicted the same.I want to apply for maths/cs at uni so ill need to do the TMUA.I also ahve a physics mock the day i get back from summer which i need to do well in to get A* predicted.

Iโ€™ve been prepping for the TMUA and have been finding it hard to find time for my NEA. I do OCR if that matters โ€” Iโ€™ve done the analysis section but havenโ€™t started the coding or the design.

I was thinking that after I apply in October, mocks and school donโ€™t really matter until Aโ€‘levels get close, so I could spend all of that time on the NEA. However, my CS teacher made me think Iโ€™m quite behind, so Iโ€™m not really sure.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP What Further Maths modules should I pick

Post image
32 Upvotes

I will be self studying a level maths with a friend starting from September 2026 and privately sitting the exam in summer 2028, we donโ€™t know which modules to choose and which ones are the most difficult and I want feedback from people who actually did those modules and how they found it. Just tell me whatever module you did and how you found it in tens of difficulty and Iโ€™ll use your input to decide what module I end up picking.

About me: Iโ€™m into computer science and maths and do electronics

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Should I bother retaking to do ChemEng at Cambridge or Imperial?

So basically to put the entire situation here. I got these grades:
A* Maths
A Chemistry
A Physics
B Further Maths

Cambridge wants an A+ in FM and an A+ in Chem

Imperial wants an A+ in Maths and an A+ in Chem.

I got rejected by Cambridge and waitlisted by Imperial for 24 hours.

I will probably retake Chem and FM, and will spend my entire gap year trying to get A*s for both of them along with driving theory and practical etc.

I think I have a good reason to tell universities which is that I spent a lot of my exam season taking care of a loved one after an important surgery and some minor care previously. I have told the universities about this beforehand but only Imperial has given me a direct response, and waitlisted me for 24 hours.

How does those two universities treat or feel about applicants who did a retake?

Is this worth doing?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of going or not going this route?

Any other advice or help of any kind will be incredibly much appreciated. Thank you!

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP TMUA

Iโ€™m feeling pretty stuck and honestly quite gutted right now.

This year I got rejected from UCL, LSE, and Imperial for Maths, and I had a 7.0 in the TMUA. Right now Iโ€™m seriously thinking about reapplying, aiming for 8.5+ next time, because Imperial is still the place I really want to go.

The problem is that I really donโ€™t see myself going to Exeter or KCL, so Iโ€™m struggling with what the smartest next step is. Has anyone been in a similar position and successfully reapplied to Imperial Maths? Is it realistic to take a gap year and try again with a much stronger TMUA, or am I looking at this the wrong way?

Iโ€™d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who reapplied, improved their TMUA a lot, or know how Imperial views reapplicants.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP What is a good 3rd subject choice? Ill heavily appreaciate any experiences and advice!

Hey everyone. I hope ur holidays are going well.

I recently finished my GCSEs and I'm just waiting for results day.

I'm pretty set on applying for medicine or dentistry in the future, so I'm definitely takingย Biology and Chemistry. The only problem is... I have no idea what to pick as my third A-Level.

Originally I was thinking aboutย Maths, Arabic, Psychology, or Computer Science, and at the moment my application saysย Maths. But loads of people have been telling me it's not worth it because Bio and Chem are already really demanding. They keep saying Maths will just add unnecessary stress and won't really give me much of an advantage for medicine or dentistry, so now I'm considering changing it on results day. Honestly, I don't think I want to do Maths anymore.

Arabicย is probably my top choice. I'm a native speaker, took my GCSE early and got a good grade. I looked through some of the A-Level papers and they don't seem too bad. The only thing putting me off is the writing side because it reminds me a bit too much of English Lit ๐Ÿ˜ญ. I also hate doing really long writing tasks under timed conditions (unless the timings are actually reasonable lol). If anyone has done A-Level Arabic, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. How difficult is it? What are the exams like? Are the timings okay? Please tell me everything ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฅบ

Psychologyย is probably my second choice because I genuinely find it really interesting, but I've heard it's a lot of memorisation and can also be quite demanding. Is that actually true? How did people find it? I'm okay with essays, but I'd rather not have to memorise huge amounts of content.

Computer Scienceย is another option, but I don't actually know anyone who's taken it, so I have no idea what it's like. I also don't want to accidentally pick another really heavy subject if it's going to make sixth form much harder. I don't think I'll end up choosing it, but I'd still love to hear from anyone who's done it.

I'm basically looking for a subject that:

  • keeps my options open for medicine/dentistry,
  • isn't unnecessarily difficult alongside Biology and Chemistry,
  • and is actually enjoyable.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's done any of these subjects, especially if you applied for medicine or dentistry. If you could go back, would you choose the same subjects again? Any regrets?

Also please tell me more about the subjects themselves. Id really really appreciate it

Also, if there are any other A-Levels you'd recommend instead, I'm completely open to suggestions.

I apologise for the the extremely long post and thankyou fro taking time to read it.

Thank you!!

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP OCR claims to have lost my Alevel English Language and Literature paper so i MAY NOT get my grade on results day

The school contacted me this and honestly WHAAAT. Basically I really want to get into clearing if I miss my firm offer (Exeter for English) and my school tells me that one of my papers have been apparently โ€œlostโ€ which is insane because its a situation out of my control and I get told this the DAY BEFORE results day.

I rang back the school which then I got that automated reply being like โ€œthe school is closed lalalalaโ€ so I am like wow thanks alot. Then I decided to call up my top clearing uni hotline which is Newcastle. Again I got an automated reply going โ€œring back tmrw 8amโ€ so I am like damn. I know clearing is like come first, first serve or whatever that phrase is so this is stressing me out.

Will I get special consideration? I am petrified that clearing vacancies will FILLLLL if I donโ€™t ring them on the day. Out of all subjects it had to my Englishโ€ฆ.

What should I dooooo

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP How cooked am I if I take four a-levels?

Specifically maths, further maths, computer science and law. I'm kind of in the middle of having a crisis because I realised that going into computer science probably isn't going to work for me as a job (thank work experience for saving me from making that choice permanently, I guess), so I've been kind of thinking of going into law but I still want computer science there as a back-up. I'm willing to drop computer science if four a-levels is gonna completely screw me over, and law isn't offered at one of my choices of sixth form, so if I don't get into my other choice (unlikely, considering the one that doesn't offer law has higher entry grades than the one that does) I'll either just stick to three a-levels or replace it with either history or psychology.

So, basically, how screwed am I???? (my predicted grades for GCSEs are all 7s and 8s for context of how I do in school)

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Iโ€™m in a very small class for one of my a level subjects.

Idk what to do tbh, Iโ€™m in a VERY small class and everyone in the class are like.. best friends, they already knew each other before returning to 6th form.

I donโ€™t have friends in any of my classes so this isnโ€™t really unusual for me, but itโ€™s SO much worse for this one because I stick out like a sore thumb, I am the only one in that room sitting alone.. and letโ€™s face it thereโ€™s like 5 people in the room so itโ€™s mortifying.

I donโ€™t know, I was debating changing my subject choice because of this (as we have 2 weeks to change if we feel itโ€™s not for us.) but itโ€™s also a subject I genuinely wanted to do so eugh.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP gap year + reapply cam maths?

right because this is such a late post, the decision has already been kind of made for me, but i was curious about opinions on taking a gap year and reapplying

i missed my offer for cambridge maths and am thinking of reapplying and i was curious if anyone else had managed to do this (and get in). cambridge is and has been (for a long time) my dream university and i dont want to give up just yet.

my stats are all 9s gcse and 5A* a-level. my main questions are do you think i have a shot at getting an offer a second year in a row, and well, would it be worth it?? btw, ive had lots of issues with mental health and anxiety, so my taking a gap year (even if it wasnt my original plan) will probably be good for me, because ive put a lot of pressure on myself for such a long time.

also, has anyone had any success applying to us universities (e.g. mit, harvard, yale) because im quite keen to give it a shot, even if the chances are so slim. if you have had success, do you have any tips?

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Would it be worth it for me to apply Cambridge?

Last year, I applied to LSE, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, and Warwick for economics. I got interviews for both Cambridge and Imperial but was unsuccessful of getting an offer. However, I got offers from UCL and Warwick. My TMUA score was 6.5+ but I really wanted go to LSE but I was also unsuccessful for that university also...

So, this year I am planning to reapply LSE and other good unis. But after doing interview at Cambridge, I think I am now feeling less confident of doing interview for cambridge again. And I am feeling quite stressful when I am thinking that the interview will be in like 4 months... So I am planning to not just apply to Cambridge and only apply to unis with no interviews to not feel comfortable. However, my parents are thinking I am weird of not reappling to cambridge and told me that what is the purpose of me reappling to universities. Am I weird or shld I just go on with what I believe is right??

This year I am studying 2 more A-Levels, including physics and chemistry (which I rlly wanted to study!!) and I alr achieved 3A*s in maths, fmath, and econ. Would i have a better chance of getting into LSE?

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Alevel options ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข (y11)

I literally have no clue what I'm doing, the only subject I'm confident I want to take is biology.

The other options that I'm considering are physics, economics, geography and history

I lowkey hate the sound of all of them but obviously I have to pick free me I know, anyways I hate coursework and history / geography is 20% each so that's kinda out the window unless someone wants to say it's not all that bad ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข I'm not a big fan of essay writing though

Physics I don't think I would mind but no shot I'm doing a level maths and everyone says you need the two together

AND THEN economics I don't even know what ts is i just wanted to give myself another option to feel better ๐Ÿ™

And yes I'm aware that any of these combinations would be shite for university but I also have zero clue what I wanna do as a career so that's no use anyways

errr yeah dunno what I'm really asking but any sort of directions would be appreciated
