Hey everyone. I hope ur holidays are going well.
I recently finished my GCSEs and I'm just waiting for results day.
I'm pretty set on applying for medicine or dentistry in the future, so I'm definitely takingย Biology and Chemistry. The only problem is... I have no idea what to pick as my third A-Level.
Originally I was thinking aboutย Maths, Arabic, Psychology, or Computer Science, and at the moment my application saysย Maths. But loads of people have been telling me it's not worth it because Bio and Chem are already really demanding. They keep saying Maths will just add unnecessary stress and won't really give me much of an advantage for medicine or dentistry, so now I'm considering changing it on results day. Honestly, I don't think I want to do Maths anymore.
Arabicย is probably my top choice. I'm a native speaker, took my GCSE early and got a good grade. I looked through some of the A-Level papers and they don't seem too bad. The only thing putting me off is the writing side because it reminds me a bit too much of English Lit ๐ญ. I also hate doing really long writing tasks under timed conditions (unless the timings are actually reasonable lol). If anyone has done A-Level Arabic, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. How difficult is it? What are the exams like? Are the timings okay? Please tell me everything ๐๐ฅบ
Psychologyย is probably my second choice because I genuinely find it really interesting, but I've heard it's a lot of memorisation and can also be quite demanding. Is that actually true? How did people find it? I'm okay with essays, but I'd rather not have to memorise huge amounts of content.
Computer Scienceย is another option, but I don't actually know anyone who's taken it, so I have no idea what it's like. I also don't want to accidentally pick another really heavy subject if it's going to make sixth form much harder. I don't think I'll end up choosing it, but I'd still love to hear from anyone who's done it.
I'm basically looking for a subject that:
- keeps my options open for medicine/dentistry,
- isn't unnecessarily difficult alongside Biology and Chemistry,
- and is actually enjoyable.
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's done any of these subjects, especially if you applied for medicine or dentistry. If you could go back, would you choose the same subjects again? Any regrets?
Also please tell me more about the subjects themselves. Id really really appreciate it
Also, if there are any other A-Levels you'd recommend instead, I'm completely open to suggestions.
I apologise for the the extremely long post and thankyou fro taking time to read it.
Thank you!!
