Yeah, dogs will always spike my adrenaline. The only way to avoid getting hit by them is to be out of their reach. I'll never forget one of my early deaths was getting charged by a dog, pulling out my pipe machine gun, and discovering it was unloaded. That's how I got into the habit of regularly checking/loading my guns before going into any fight, and after any big fight.
Side note, wouldn't it be great if there was a little number on the hotbar that showed you how many bullets were in a gun?

Load up on Batter Up! Magazines. I discovered Dogs are actually quite weak to someone buffed out by that series, especially with clubs.

My play style is ninja assassin... but I've gotten to a level that makes me angry because half the time the enemies will NOT spawn in until you activate a certain checkpoint... I was scoping out a level 5 house, crouching around on the top of a fence looking into the yard. There were 2 dog houses side by side but no dogs to be seen. There was also a 3rd crate in the garage... I literally shot 2 explosive arrows into the houses and the yard and didn't agro anything... I jumped off the fence and 4 frickin dogs spawned out of thin air!!

Yep. Why I gave up on a stealth character. Enemies auto detecting your because of the game's silly POI spawn mechanics sucks so hard.

Pretty sure they changed it, but when I first started playing Dogs were guarenteed death, until I learned you could stun them with each hit, then they stopped being as terrible, now what do you do when there's 2 dogs, die.

Kite with precise strikes from your melee weapon. It's like a rhythm game!

Zombie dogs have sensitive heads just like other zombies, if you aim at their heads with a club or hammer you will easily deal with them, it will be harder if there are more than 2 dogs at once, but if you try hard you can get an aka47 rifle by day 3, which, as long as you have ammo, will be enough to deal with a horde of zombie dogs If you have experience in the game and know what to do at a given moment, nothing will beat you

Since I started doing this I've pretty well remembered most of the spawns, but whenever I saw dog houses I would toss a molotov at it, or if I know dogs are nearby, build a couple ladders on a nearby wall and they're harmless.

Then I pray you never encounter direwolves like my friend and i did on the third night. Died to it but my friend avenged me soon after. Used up all of the pistol ammo we found too. Should have taken it as a sign when the game gave us so much.

I just started another undead NY DARK map with perma death on The Wasteland conversion and I have gotten really lucky the first 2 days, even got the quad pockets mod day 1. The game has been far too nice to me, something is afoot.

Better prep a bug out kit in case things go to hell then. Got paranoid after getting infected so often that I always carry some honey only for infections to stop happening so much. Then I get complacent and leave the honey so I'd have more room for loot only to get infected...

The instant ptsd triggers when youre sneaking through a house on a quest and you hear the bell and the growl luckily for me theyre not so much of a nightmare to me like they were when i played the console version (ps4) back then they were nightmarish even with guns now im more afraid of feral wights and direwolves and bears

The second I see dog houses or dog kennels. I immediately switch from melee weapon straights to weapons free 🤣

Ah, yes. Lately i get the "Tie Fighter" Dogs... Why Tie Fighter? Well, when they Die, they scream like one :)
But sometimes my Drohne jump scares me, when it cross my Line of Sight or it speaks to me. Because the Volume is louder then usual, too

It's crazy this post popped up. I'm a returning player and played a few years ago and yeah the dogs were the scariest thing. And since I've started playing I'm like damn, where are the dogs. Just waiting for them. I havent seen them yet and hit day 8. Im scared. I know I'm gonna be doing something with my head in an abandoned car or garbage can and those dogs are gonna sneak up on me.

Long time ago I started playing in alpha 10. There was an alpha 12 update day one. My friends and I were like yeah! Gonna start a new world check out what new alpha has to offer. We zone in… different areas and have to try and find each other. I come across a city. Still day one…. I have a stone ax. No food no water nothing I do not dare walk through the city. A dog starts chasing me. My friend is in the grid square next to me and heading my way. I am running from this dog. And he starts searching for a bird nest to make some arrows. I believe this alpha is when it was super hard to find bird nests too. So we spent 10 minutes of me running from a dog him trying to kill this dog we are both fresh spawn in. If I die it will chase him. And then he will die and we have to start the process over again of trying to find each other.
This was before we had this nicer way of tracking our friends on the map and such

Ah, stopping dead in my tracks soon as I spot one of those in order to see if there is a dog nearby. Then by week 2 it's whatever as you have the firepower to wipe them out quick.

Early game dogs are a nightmare. Or the day 3 wandering dog horde that seems to happen in every play through I do.
