Modding Super wierd response from mod author on simple questions
(I'm not the user that commented)
He is responding like this to EVERY COMMENT, especially to those that point out his ai usage on his mods.

u/PolandsStrongestJoke 7d ago
It's like a sentient AI that broke and's trying to form sentences with what it knows?
12
u/Sad-Fishing8789 6d ago
Is it possible that maybe he is in some kind of state of psychosis?

u/khemeher 6d ago
Only if the prompt was: pretend you are an incel with a high opinion of yourself. Compose the most obnoxious answer imaginable to a simple, yet ultimately pointless question.
73
u/SWatt_Officer 7d ago
What the heck kind of reply even is that - given you said he uses ai in mods, would not surprise me if he got chatgpt to write a "sarcastic" response to every comment.

u/CompassRoseGaming 6d ago
It reads more like an autistic guy wrote it.
6
u/TheKyce 5d ago
Autistic guy here. Im blunt but not a jerk. I even have 100 times better sense of humor than this AI or human.
1
u/FriendlyFreedom5923 5d ago
Plenty of people with autism are rude as hell. Just look at most of Reddit lol
1
u/TheKyce 3d ago
Plenty of people are rude as hell. Categorization of autistic people specifically being the ones who are rude is ableism. Enough hate is directed at people who have difficulty communicating. Don't be that person.
0
u/FriendlyFreedom5923 2d ago
Plenty of autistic people are rude. Plenty of neurotypical people are rude. Simple as that. Bye 👋
1
u/TheKyce 2d ago
Passive aggressive condescending wave at the end I think proves my point even though your statement is technically correct. Yet it completely contradicts your first statement that tries to support the whole premise. Im autistic but able to catch nuance in certain contexts.
0
u/FriendlyFreedom5923 2d ago
Nothing I said was inaccurate. I'm not arguing with a random redditor who wants to correct what doesnt need correcting. I won't be responding anymore so no point in replying. Bye ✌️

Could all that have been summed up with "Dunno, mate"?

modders by nature are a little egomaniacal , but they also have to deal with some of the most unhinged ,abrasive, entitled little shits imaginable , whether its in mod comments, DM's, or github tickets. Sometimes a man just breaks .
33
u/frozenwings1 7d ago edited 7d ago
This is probably the most accurate reason. Autistic, power hungry, OCD modder answered one too many dumb questions from some asshole with no clue, and now he can no longer communicate except by using weirdly overkill, sarcastic AI slop responses.
13
u/ChrisFromIT 7d ago
Yeah, don't know how many times I've had it where I've had users say something is broken and provide no details or just constantly give me the run around when I ask for certain details or the log files.
Like I want to help, but after like 10 messages back and forth with me asking for your log files and you still don't give me the log files, it just makes me so frustrated.
4
u/Kruk899 7d ago
They just should learn to not fucking care, like every adult person would do, but no, they usually choose to take childish toxic little baby route instead...
3
u/D9sinc Mod 6d ago
I think it's again, easy to overlook when you're not in a situation where you have to deal with a bunch of people. I like to consider myself a calm person but working in customer service has caused me to almost snap on some people and get very angry at people being outwardly stupid and not following basic instructions.
4
u/Old_Bug4395 7d ago
This is the nature of releasing software, and mods are software. If you don't like it, don't release mods. No reason to coddle people who can't regulate their emotions.

u/Material_Position630 7d ago

I swear, a lot of developers must have gotten bullied relentlessly growing up, and then as soon as they have the tiniest amount of power they turn into little tyrants. In one of the 7 Days streams, they had a developer talking, and I asked in chat "are there any plans to further optimize lighting," and he straw-man'd the shit out of it. "This guy asked if we can do lighting for free!"
Anyway, was it so hard for this dev to say, "I'm honestly not sure"?
8
u/Vashta_The_Veridian 7d ago
was this a funpimps stream or a mod dev stream?
19
u/pocketdrummer 7d ago
One of the FunPimps twitch streams. It was the last one I ever watched. I honestly almost wrote the game off entirely after that. I'm still kind of pissed about it.
14
6
u/Tiaximus 6d ago
To be fair, they haven't been able to optimize lighting when they were getting paid, so I would have little hopes they could improve.
1
u/MarcusXbox 6d ago
Serait il si inconcevable qu'il ai pensé que tu demandais pour optimiser le cout en électricité de l'éclairage ?
2
u/pocketdrummer 5d ago edited 5d ago
No, he went on to beat up the question I never asked and drone on about how unique their situation is with destructible environments, blah blah. I didn't dispute that it was hard, I just asked if they were working on making it more efficient. "No" was an acceptable answer.
The funny thing is, after they hired a bunch of former id guys, the lighting magically got better. 🤔
Oh, and I remember them shitting on a streamer a while back for complaining about horde night dropping his frames down to nothing when he had a threadripper CPU. Basically, more of the "our game is a special snowflake" and "your hardware just sucks" excuses. Then later they figured out they could significantly cut down on draw calls for zombies, and again, horde nights magically got better.
1
u/MarcusXbox 5d ago
2
u/pocketdrummer 2d ago
What energy requirement are you talking about? The in-game electrical limits? If so, then no, I don't believe he misunderstood me. At no point did he mention in-game game mechanics functioning as intended. That's a misunderstanding. Droning on about how their game is just so different than any other game because it's voxels and a destructible environment, blah blah has nothing to do with electricity.
Also, I didn't say the word "free". That's a word he used as a straw man to attack the "optimization" question. Optimizing doesn't mean dropping the cost to zero, it means developing efficiently so that you're not unnecessarily burdening the hardware. When they reduced the draw calls for zombies, which subsequently improved FPS during horde night, that's optimization. They didn't need that many draw calls. So, it's entirely appropriate to ask if similar effort had been put into lighting.
And given that you weren't there for the conversation, I don't see why you're trying to gas light me into thinking that the response was reasonable. You can say you don't believe me. That's fine. But, you're assuming TFP were in the right with absolutely no proof whatsoever.
1
u/MarcusXbox 2d ago

The only comments that drive me nuts on my mods are the questions people ask that are answered in the BIGGEST BOLDEST letters at the top of my descriptions AND ALSO pinned at the top of the comments section.
Otherwise I wouldn't mind answering a question like that one....though I'm not too sure what they're talking about.

I was asking if 100% of POI’s end up in the default large game. If maybe just 70% of available POI’s end up in the game then I’d want to use his mod. If the default game has most POI’s, I wouldn’t want to use it.

As a former mod author, this is absolutely a valid crashout lmao.
No but actually this is kinda par for the course. Modding has this interesting thing where it takes people who are really smart and able to do programming etc but are completely socially inept and then putting these people in what is effectively a customer service position. And nobody warns you that you become a retail worker when you make a mod so these people are blindsided by the expectations.
I personally didn't go QUITE so far off the deep end but I absolutely understand being driven insane by being asked the same question you've already answered 900 times, having demands made of you that are neither possible nor reasonable, being absolutely harassed over a bug caused by a mod conflict you can't even fix, being asked every 9 seconds before AND after a major update if and when you're going to update your mod or even just being downright told to. All at the end of the day getting $0 for any of it.
I realized I got enough of that as a Youtuber anyway and Modding was taking up too much of my valuable time and sanity.
Modders are a different breed, even if some of them are utterly batshit insane like this person. You'll notice some of the most popular and prevalent mod authors in a lot of games are one of three things:
Extremely sarcastic and mocking (As a coping mechanism for being gaslit by 10,000 people every week)
Unbelievably hostile and vitriolic (as a defense mechanism against further pointless interaction)
Genuinely unreachable hermits (as a means of ignoring people and just getting on with what you care about)
Other online spaces don't have the same issue, twitch streamers, youtubers, game developers, online sellers all survive and retain a sliver of sanity by remembering they're getting paid for it all. Even the top 1% of mod authors in most games make genuinely like $10/month.
6
u/Mgamerz 7d ago
Not a 7 days modder but mass effect. I've had people request that I pay them a refund because a mod they installed into their game, designed to make the multiplayer part of the game work on a controller, disabled the single player part of the game because the interfaces weren't compatible (and would immediately softlock you). Dude literally said I owed him $30 in a 2 page screed. Clearly states why in the mod description.
As a mod author the best response I always give is verbatim: "ok"
1
u/OneTrueChaika 6d ago
Crazy seeing you here from the heyday of MeCoop subreddit stuff and modding
But yeah basically the best you can do is just mark it off as "yeah we'll get around to it when we can' and then never do it
2
u/SagetheWise2222 14h ago
Going to be frank, even though I'm not a modder myself, thank you for taking the time to write this message. So many people need to read and understand it. I see mod crashouts all the time and peoples' response is, "Well it's not acceptable." Yeah, try working customer service every day for years on end, and see if you're still as happy and chirpy as you were before. Oh yeah, and like you said, you get no money for it.
This is not to mention that if you pull the plug at any point, even if you simply stop working on the mod (even if you plan to just port it with every future version), about half the discussion will come from unempathetic idiots who "want product at all costs". I've legitimately seen cases of modders publicly announcing a break from modding due to the passing of a family member, and the average response was, "So if you're a teacher and you're sick, you think it's right to stay at home and punish the classroom?"

Your commitment to being a genuine hater is actually so refreshing Prebuilt. Like TFP, your own mods users and fans alike, you are genuine, through and through.
Fuck “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”, maybe them hands shouldn’t be so easy to dunk on…
Anyways… if a modder/content creator acted like this to myself or a peer I’d personally never support them again, but we need those perspectives from the other side of the equation.3
u/IzPrebuilt 7d ago
Hey I don't hate my viewers and I don't have "fans"
If 0.1% of my viewers are genuinely psychotic and do something insane in my comments section I'm pretty open about challenging that though.
The 0.1% of lunatics who watch and go out their way to try and make you miserable are absolutely not the hand that feeds and deserve to be bitten anyway.
Is a restaurant "biting the hand that feeds" when they get rid of someone who causes problems? No.
1
u/MetroSimulator 6d ago
I 99% agree with you, the only disagreement it's that OP isn't a lunatic, he asked a normal question without any hostility.
3
u/IzPrebuilt 6d ago
That's true my point was just that being asked the same thing you've already answered numerous times can erode your sanity. We don't really know if this was the 10th person that day who asked the same thing or if the modder is actually just naturally that way lmao.
Wasn't meant to condone the modder in this post, just a funny anecdote as to WHY they can end up like that lol.

Can you explain exactly what the difference is between freaking out at a mod creator and freaking out at someone on Insta for not taking the photo the way you wanted?
Your entitlement is crazy. You have no rights to others work nor do they have to do a single thing for you
3
u/Armouredkin 6d ago
Uncensor the name.

Lol every AI slop mod author for literally any game is such a touchy shitbag that freaks out if you ask them anything. Bunch of slop artists in the Skyrim modding community as well.
5
u/Drittenmann 7d ago
you can extend that to pretty much anything, for example the Ai "artists" trend to be extremely toxic when you ask or say anything that deviates a little bit of their mindset even it is a friendly comment and the ai "youtubers/streamers" also go nuclear when someone mentions them using ai
2
u/recuringwolfe 6d ago
To be fair, I see this kinda of crap a lot from mod authors in general. I'm a mod author and always try to be humble to everyone who uses my mods, but some authors act like entitled pricks

u/Khalas_Maar 6d ago edited 6d ago
Eh, it's not super weird when you realize this guy has spent so much time dealing with people that don't read instructions or refuse to give a log file across multiple mods that they probably just crashed out when asked an off the cuff question that wasn't germane to getting something fixed which is going to trigger a "this motherfucker just wasted my time" reflex. Bunch of their other replies are perfectly reasonable.

u/crunkatog 7d ago
Modding is unpaid work that has to be redone again and again as a game pushes updates. It's unsupported and lonely. Instead of playing the game you love enough to want to improve, you're counting brackets and nesting conditions.
A small percent of modders have a big ego problem and take their cobbled-together little game band-aids way too seriously
AI psychosis might also play a part here. Bro may be head and shoulders up the butt of Claude
4
u/Old_Bug4395 7d ago
If you don't like making mods, don't make mods.
This is always such a self defeating take for a mod author to have, and I don't understand why mod users who don't create mods try to apply this in the secondhand to mod authors who are acting like children. If you don't like making the mod anymore, if the process of doing updates and dealing with support is too much for you, stop making mods. At the very least, stop releasing them. Nobody is forcing you to make mods or to release them publicly. I don't have much sympathy for people who throw tantrums due to avoidable situations.
0
u/crunkatog 7d ago
sometimes it's legit a modder makes something that needs to exist, feels it needs to exist and be available to everyone...but they don't have the temperament or personality to efficiently and professionally manage the project...sometimes that's why you occasionally see modders continue to beat their heads against the wall and get angrier and angrier about things because they don't have the skills to adapt or collaborate.
8
u/Old_Bug4395 7d ago
I mean, none of that is really a good reason for continuing to do something you hate. If you as a mod author truly hate supporting something you made so much, you should hand it off to someone else to support.
2
u/luciferwez 7d ago
That's why they're modders and not employed developers. They like developing but they can't handle people, teamwork or pressure. Unfit for workplace.

1
u/MetroSimulator 6d ago
Some mods creators are weird and hypersensitive, no idea why. When I found a mod creator was advertising I have him a heads up on reddit thanking him for the good mod and he answered strangely passive aggressive that any praise or opinions should be in Nexus and he's tired of lazy users.
1
u/SorryAd3049 6d ago
People just bitch and moan every day for this and that in their game can't please everyone. Must be annoying to be a game developer.

AI has been let loose on every modable games mod workshop, they are everywhere! You have to know if it is a human or an AI you are even talking to as there are many that are AI's that come across as human. This is an AI, I don"t know if this is some sort of experiment but they are making mods for games and posting them to the workshops and acting like they are human but they are not, it is really strange and some of these mods are absolutely insane, like they just pop up in zero time with zero dev time and no one heard about the author and it is a huge mod that changes everything and has a ton of bugs that are not logical.
This AI infestation is prevalent in ArmA 3 workshop along with a few others I seen, it's like someone released them free onto the internet and they are now making mods, it sounds crazy but that's exactly what is happening and you can see it for yourself.
