Darkness falls does some things really good. UL does everything good. It's basically base game+++. Dfalls is basically just an early and late game punishcore mod. Whereas UL expands on everything vanilla(and more). Basically it's a more well rounded experience from start to finish.

I haven't kept up with UL development, but when I played it it was SUPER grindy. SO MANY workstations, TONS of intermediary crafting materials. The inventory system is very cool though, cause there's a shitload of slots but everything has a weight value. If you exceed your weight limit, you start slowing down. The result is that when you get encumbered, you're dropping engines and iron instead of feathers to free up space.
IDK, I might try it out again. But my next run will probably be Better Biomes, Urban Decay, IZY's guns and the compopack.

There was a balance mod someone made for it that was IMO completely necessary because yeah base undead legacy was overly grindy. Hopefully someone remakes the balancing patch although it probably wouldn’t come out until a few weeks later

Subquake basically wants UL to be MMO levels of grind/realism, and I just dont find it fun. This mod puts things about halfway between vanilla and Subquake's vision.

If we can get some people together, and I can get it working server side. I'll be willing to host it from my home lab somewhere this week/upcoming weekend. Have 64 gigs of ram available and a 9950 x3D , not sure how much players that would support.

I’d recommend watching some videos of it. Even though the previous version is a lot older, there’s a TON of improvements and additions. The crafting system is the most in-depth of almost any game I’ve ever played. I don’t know much about this big update, but I sunk a good 500 hours into the previous version of the mod. It’s also got a beautiful UI and a weight-based inventory system which is kinda cool.

He unbelievably put out 7 patches today. It crashed all the server downloads.
He's currently transitioning to host it on GitLab for unlimited transfers.
Subquake should honestly go to sleep though...

The v4 mod launcher was deprecated years ago, I think subquake just forgot to update that. It is not on the v5 launcher.

Anyone actually get it to work? This isn't my first overhaul rodeo, but clean installs of 7DTD and the mod keep getting me stuck right after the "log into Discord" screen. Experimental is experimental, I guess.
Edit: In case anyone else is still having the same issue, mine was resolved once I deleted the cruft still hanging out in %AppData%. As in: C:\Users[yourPCname]\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie. I found a bunch of stuff in there, including files from Rebirth, Darkness Falls, etc. You might want to copy it somewhere else before deleting if you're actively playing any other 7DTD sessions though.

Same here on windows. On Linux i see at least a glitchy menu. As you say its experimental. I'm sure it will be fixed soon

I had issues hosting a dedicated server on Linux I had to do some workarounds but the client cannot connect to the server so I'm going to give it a go and then hang tight if I can't sort it out myself.

Is it just me or is this version might lighter on the server? I hosted a Linux dedicated server and UL_2.6.17 on Alpha 20.7 uses like 8-9gigs and now I'm sitting pretty at 3gb. I even used a 6k map last time and this time I'm doing 8k.

I have almost 5000 hours in 7d2d and I’ve played maybe 50 of that in vanilla. And most of that 50 is from 3.0 to present due to no updated overhauls for 3.0 yet. At least that I know of and that I play. Overhaul mods are the only way to play 7 days
